Interesting mix of fossils, rocks, crystals, and such. Since they sell neat stuff from all over the world it would be really nice if they could section off what is actually from Utah for those looking to take home a piece of the surroundings as opposed to some place in China or Mexico. The table outside where things are on the honor system seems especially fair on pricing for the items in the store it is hard for me to gauge as I am no expert in the area but I did manage to buy a few things that made me happy at what seems to be a fair price. read more

No greeting. Employees talking animatedly to each other. No help for customers. We did get a "thank you" around the sucker in the employee's mouth. Prices exorbitantly high. We did buy a couple little souvenirs for family, but can't recommend this business. read more

this place is a must. just beautiful and bought two necklaces. Kids will love it. People are precious.stop in

Got to visit this awesome shop while visiting the area last week. I am big into stones & let me tell you -this place has everything you are looking for!! I left with much more than I planned on leaving with, & I can't say I'm upset with that read more

What an incredible store. They have a fantastic selection of rocks, gems, stones, fossils and more. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but truly is worth a visit. They have some beautiful pieces inside and a selection like you wouldn't believe. This place is certainly a must see. Quick and easy in/out from Main street and not busy at all. read more

A great shop I'm not normally into this sort of thing but the staff was friendly and helpful. Well worth a stop was one of the highlights of my trip. read more

I am honored to be the first to review Lin Ottinger's Rock Shop. If you are a rock geek, this is heaven. If you are a looking for a funky place in the US to add as part of your wild west road trip - also heaven. You can't miss it when you head into town... read more

Stopped here so my son could buy his girlfriend some rocks and jewelry and was super impressed by all of the different rocks and fossils inside. Some of these rocks are breathtaking! It can be a bit crowded so bring your patience. And for goodness sakes hold your children's hands. They don't understand how fragile these rocks can be. TIP: If you arrive after they close check out the rocks out in front. They have an honor box for payment after hours. read more

Massive collection, and easy to get lost in all the aisles and information and shiny objects. I actually found the prices for some gemstones really reasonable. Came out with some gorgeous stones. The guy manning the counter was really knowledgeable and pleasant. I look forward to returning on my next stop in Moab. Also, check out the bathroom... and look at ALL the mirrors in there ;) read more

Best rock.shop I've ever been. From CA and will definitely hit this spot every time we are in the area. Customer service was a little unhelpful. We spent hundreds of dollars here and I felt as if I was bothering the employees. But still worth a trip , great prices and some rare finds. read more

We visited Moab Rock Shop during our family vacation this summer. When I was trying to put together "a crystal a day" advent calendar for my daughter, who is in her first year of college, I knew just the right shop to contact. Moab Rock Shop was VERY helpful in finding the perfect stones and sizes, and all done virtually, since we are on the east coast! I am very grateful and give a 5 star rating! Thank you Moab Rock Shop for creating an awesome experience! read more

Very impressive assortment of rocks, minerals, and fossils! I got some fossilized dinosaur bone fragments for my little cousins and myself. I've been to a few more rock shops in other places in Utah , but this one was by far the best with the biggest selection! read more

First time in Moab and it rained a lot. This store was great I could be in there for hours. Crystals were great prices! I can't wait to go back to find more treasures read more

We saw this shop on our way into town, but when my daughter found their orange info card in the hotel tourism display, advertising free Dino fossil fragments, we knew we'd be stopping in. There are tables and tables of really inexpensive rocks and fossils outside ($1-$3 each), and some more specialized, expensive, things inside. For less than $15, my kids were all able to pick out a few new shinies for their collections. Kat and Patrice were super friendly and patient, as we carefully rang up all the rocks, separating them into bags by child, and wrapping up the different specimens so they wouldn't crush each other in luggage. Thanks, ladies!! read more

My younger 3 children won't wear mask due to sensory issues so I left the store. My husband and 2 teens I left inside. Well they over heard 3 worker talking bad about my family. No worries we won't spend our money here. read more

Mind blowing and intimidating beyond imagination. Meteorites from Russia, prehistoric dinosaur bones and eggs, rocks and gems to meet every desire all the way to the level of a child seeking "treasure" to the serious collector on a mission. The multi-generational family business element was a nice surprise too and thankfully the shop was well visited so it likely will sustain even another generation. read more

My son has been begging to come here for the past few years and since it was his birthday that weekend we finally decided to stop in and check it out. If you are into rocks, this is definitely the place to stop and check out. They have rocks lined up outside on an honor code to purchase if you come in after closing hours. Then you have a big indoor store with another outside section that's fenced off. There was some really cool looking rocks and the guy was talking to another family as we walked in about a replica of a dinosaur bone hanging above them. The little kid he told was gitty looking at it. My son was in heaven and couldn't decide on what to pick out to expand his collection. Who knew you could easily spend over a hundred dollars in rocks... not for me, but if you are passionate about it it's worth the time to see for yourself. We did pick up a book that shows us all the places in Utah and the types of rocks you could find. This will be fun and helpful for my son to hunt for rocks as we go exploring and camping. read more

Love this place! I'm big into rocks and fossils, and they had such a wide variety of them! Pretty fairly priced as well, though some things may seem overpriced to someone who doesn't now how much some of these things are really worth, but it's all pretty fair. They also have some nice rock jewelry there too! read more

This place is so fun to explore! We had a destination wedding in Moab and almost all of our guests ended up stopping by to check out the Rock Shop. There is so much to look at! The staff was very helpful when we ended up buying a large quantity of items as gifts. One of my guests called the Rock Shop a few weeks later to order something as a gift, and they sent him a photo to make sure it was the right item. Love this place! read more

This place was amazing! The kids got a free dinosaur bone for mentioning Yelp. Plus we got to pick out geodes and the owner cracked them open for the kids right there. If you are into rocks, minerals, or fossils, you have to stop by. read more

I actually read about this shop in a book called "Cruising the Fossil Freeway" by paleontologist Kirk Johnson. So when my wife and I visited Utah last summer, we made it a point to visit this shop when we were in Moab. And if you are total fossil geek, like me, then this place is your Graceland! This store has soooo much cool stuff that I was practically drooling the entire time. They even had a complete Allosaurus foot and leg for sale (probably a casting, but still WAY out of my price range, unfortunately). It wasn't hard for me to find lots of cool stuff here. Long story, short - I spent a couple hundred bucks on fossils (and a few bits of jewelry for my wife) and then ran for door while I still had a few dollars to my name. But next time I visit Moab, I'll definitely be back coming back to this place! read more

Who can't have fun in a rock shop? My wife is a geologist who hasn't really gotten past the stage of being totally enthralled by shiny rocks and minerals I can't pronounce. So I have seen my share of these places and Ottinger's is a fun place with something new (or I should say extremely old) every time you turn around. This place is great, has tons of info about local minerals and fossils. The collection of old mining equipment adds a great quality. Two times to Moab, two visits and I'm betting we'll be back. read more

IF YOU LOVE ROCKS, GO HERE!!!! This place had rocks and fossils out the wazoo! We are kinda nerdy people and enjoy different rocks and fossils and old things. We probably spent almost an hour here just walking around and checking out the different rocks. The clerks working were extremely knowledgeable of the rocks and where they came from, the fossils and the animals they came from as well. They have lots of petrified wood and TONS of rocks you can take home as a souvenir. Many of the rocks you can purchase here you will also see along your hikes through the national parks. Since it's not legal to take things from the parks, you can get the same kind of rocks from here and also learn about them at the same time! They have every type of rock you could think of and more. They also have geodes available to purchase that haven't been opened yet if that's your thing! A great place for kids as well if they enjoy shark or dinosaur fossils or even just rocks! read more

I certainly enjoyed the store. I was impressed with a mososaurus jaw--6 fossil teeth alternating crocodile style--and plunked down $60 for it. A year later, I was quite surprised to see over a dozen of this same piece at the Tucson Gem and Fossil show. Selling at $10 a piece. And dealers for these were upfront in saying it's a composite--i.e., the teeth are real but the jaw is fake. The Moab Rock Shop had a slip of paper with info on the mososaurus, but no admission that it wasn't all real. Well, there's no place where the motto shouldn't be caveat emptor. So enjoy yourself, but just know that not everything's what it's cracked up to be. read more

My husband and I stopped in at Moab Rock Shop during our vacation in October 2012, and we were pleasantly surprised. They have an amazing selection of rocks, minerals and fossils... to name a few! Not to mention Donna was delightful! I purchased a beautiful pendant and sculpture and my husband purchased a plethora of treasures! :-) This is a must see when visiting Moab -- as we've seen our share of "rock stores" throughout the midwest and this is the best one yet! Enjoy! read more

When visiting Moab and Arches National Park, this place is a must see. Most of the stuff in the shop could be in a museum - after browsing through the whole shop I left with a beautiful chocker necklace of peridot and my daughter got a stone pendant in the shape of a frog. read more

I am Jeremy Auldaney. It has been a number of years but I consider Lin Ottinger an old friend. I remember reading about Moab Man. The human skeleton found in dinosaur brearing rock before we went on our trip. Then in Moab, I was in a rock shop and noticed the name Lin Ottinger. WOW, I was in a famous man's rock shop! He was very kind and allowed me to see some of the Moab Man's bones and even got to hold and photograph them. I was passing through after doing research on the Tuba City, Arizona fossil track site where putative human tracks were found in the same horizon as the tracks of Jurassic dinosaurs. I published some technical papers on this research. On another trip my battery broke and splashed acid all over shorting the sparkplug wires. Lin Ottinger knew what to do using baking soda. Then he drove me to a repair shop where they sealed the hole in the battery. Then he let us stay in our van at his shop. He is like an uncle to me. Love you Lin. Got lots of fantastic fossils from him too. By the way that human track you found in Navajo sandstone. It looks just like one I found at the Tuba City site with Dilophosaur tracks. I believe it is a Dilophosaur hand print. Some have mistaken it for a human hand print. They had 5 fingures and your hand fits in it perfectly, except it had 5 claw holes. And I remember you said the dinosaurs had to be millions of years old because they are found about a mile down in the sediment in some places. This is because there were huge tidal waves that crossed continents, caused by the impact of a large asteroid, which caused worldwide volcanic upheavals. This is what triggered the Flood of Noah about 5 thousand years ago. Their radioactive dating systems are completely false, when they date radioactive rocks like from the recent eruption of Mt Saint Helens they come out millions of years old! I fell in love with this shop when my now husband and I found it during our first trip to Moab a few years ago, and literally spent hours wandering through the isles looking at all of the rocks, minerals, fossils, crystals, and jewelry in the store. We never skip it when we're in town, and we even planned a special Moab trip last summer, after we got engaged, so that I could buy all of my wedding jewelry here. I've never met a rock shop that I didn't like, but the Moab Rock Shop is simply the best! And what great fun! They not only have fine specimens from the United States and around the world, they also have a fine assortment of rocks and fossils from the greater Moab area (and the rest of Utah as well). The staff is well-versed on all the offerings and are friendly and spend time with you. I found a wonderful bunch of treasures that I shall always cherish, and I wouldn't have found them anywhere else. Thanks for making a wonderful memory of my trip to Moab! read more
