MGT (not sure if it's a thing but thats what I call it in my head) is one of my required stops when I'm in Moab. They have new gear upstairs but then when you venture downstairs its a magical land of secondhand goodies. From biking to hiking to water sports, they have it all and they have competitive prices. The absolute best find in Moab, Utah. Sales associates are friendly and helpful. We found most of their pricing to be fantastic for the kind of high-quality outdoor clothing brands they carry. We found North Face snow pants for my daughter and I also found high end snow pants at a fraction of the original price. Both were like new and in amazing condition. We are visiting from Seattle. We decided to hike the Delicate Arch trail only to realize the footing is tricky at the ledge. So we needed micro spikes. We decided to phone the Moab Gear Trader shop. Patrick answered and was able to provide sizes and brands available. He also was able to provide pricing on the phone. We liked his level of support so much that we hopped in the car immediately (realizing their shop closes at 9pm). Patrick (and his coworkers) greeted us upon entry. He realized we were new in town and carefully explained the pros and cons of each of the different models of micro spikes they sold. He helped our selection process tremendously. What a cool store! We are people who love to reduce-reuse-recycle, so consignment shops are right up our alley. It was a ton of fun to go through their clothing to see what treasures were hiding among the racks. Very interesting store. It is packed to the rafters with gear, so much so it is hard to move around. It has amazing variety and selection, and a lot of stuff I didn't know I needed, and probably actually don't need, but is neat and I want to buy it anyway! Moab Gear Trader is a small spot in a strip-mall Esque part of town, but don't let the exterior fool you, this place packs an awesome punch. From their fair prices to their knowledgeable staff, this place is a must stop for purchasing gear at a discount. From their own brand new items to slightly used gear, this place is a great pit stop for anyone who needs outdoor gear on a budget. I was truly impressed with their selection of both men's, women's and kids items. From shoes to tops, layering essentials, packs, and more, it has so much of what you need and all of their prices are fair. Not only did we love their selection, brands are great reputable ones we love to use, but also the staff was quite helpful. We love their knowledge of the area and we had plenty of suggestions of local hiking/off-roading and camping areas (to go to later on) from the guys in the shop, so do not hesitate to ask for help or ideas. Stopped in before GearHeads to see what we could catch at a better price. Incredible selection, hubby and I got 4 pairs of hiking pants and shorts for $130! Brand names and they all looked like new. Kids selection was lacking - maybe that ebbs and flows with inventory and season but didn't get lucky on any of the items I was looking for in regards to my littles. I'm an East coast trail hound and recently bought some used telemark equipment from Marshall and MGT. Pre sale communications and transaction was top rate customer experience and I was very impressed. Just before shipping Marshall informed me of missing part that was essential and they instantly agreed to a more fair price. Again I was very impressed with the customer experience. Upon getting the shipment it actually was missing two parts which I let them know about and Marshall instantly refunded me. I was blown away frankly, Marshall and these people are obviously made of the kind of virtues and values that are far too rare in today's "it's all about me selfish and greed driven society". I've always dreamt to of an Mtb trip to Utah (having skied Utah mountains for decades). But now when C19 abates I want to go to Moab just to visit the shop and meet Marshall! I've traveled annually for the past seven years through Moab. This is the first time I shopped at Moab Gear Trader. The weather was cold then hot and I needed some long johns. I found a patagonia for $15 bucks. They had an amazing selection of outdoor gear, clothing, ice chests etc. Even used climbing shoes and gear. If you are looking for something in a pinch and don't want to spend $$$ on new stuff. This is your place. I will definitely go back next year for anything I forgot pack. Worst gear exchange place I have been to,it reminded me of a SNL skit by Dan Aykroyd. Expensive discontinued color photo books of Utah hiking and photo books that took over a hour to get cash for after multiple return trips there. The price kept going down every time I came back? Bought a brand new hatchet as I couldn't find mine. I then find it, & never even took the plastic off of the new hatchet, not a mark on it, not 1 drop of dirt or sand. The very next day I went in thinking no biggie I can take it back, they point at some tiny sign & mention a tiny paragraph on the receipt that explains absolutely nothing is returnable, then the guy has the bad taste to lie to me & say his "system" is not even set up to give refunds. You literally cannot legally use credit card software & have a way of "taking" money from those transactions without having a way of putting money back onto them. The card companies own all software in the use of cards & its simple to understand this. I didn't put up a fuss in the store as one immediately knows the type of person they are dealing with. I understand this policy or guideline for clothing items, or used gear that is resold, but in certain circumstances it is extremely unethical to willingly lie to customers & make up false excuses in situations such as this. Im not upset about the high price, this is Moab, I thought I needed a tool & it being Sunday with other places being closed I happily paid the price. But to then bring it back in the exact same condition it was in, brand new, no tags pulled off, absolutely never used, & be lied to. I feel it is very important to share this experience because many people will give a kind review, especially if they are simply getting rid of something & sell it off, but any company or store with such a bad policy on returnable goods should really be looked at carefully. Think twice before you buy from here, because new or used doesn't make a difference, you will NEVER get a refund, & according to the guy who sold the tool & also saw me the next morning, there "system" literally cannot do a refund, regardless of terms of service in the use of credit cards... or plain logic. read more
