Oof, what a disappointment this was. I had been looking forward to visiting Back of Beyond for years. I finally got to go last week and it was a real letdown. It's horribly disorganized and I have never been made to feel so unwelcome in my life. The woman working the counter could not have rushed me and my friend out of the store sooner. I was so startled by the interaction I should have left the $100 worth of books on the counter and walked out. 0/10 no stars would not recommend. read more

Great little bookstore on the main drag! I was so excited to see a bookstore amongst the local shops in Moab! It's adorable, with a giant book on the top of the store, and a nice selection inside. Lots of postcards, and local items too. They had the cutest book earrings. The cashier was super helpful, telling us other great stores to check out, and where we could find some good food! They have the cutest kids room in the back too! read more

The food was delicious. The grape leaves were so tender. Eggplant parmesan and salmon with artichokes were perfectly prepared.

Such a great bookstore! They had art supplies, games, greeting cards, craft chocolate and journals for sale. It's truly a one stop shop for any great gift. I spent about 30 minutes looking through the bookstore, which was just enough time to realize I was hardly scratching the surface. They had a huge area of historic books I didn't even get to! Huge selection of books on national parks, especially on Arches, the nearest NP to town. I really enjoyed the children's section, with a great variety of books, stuffed animals and toys. I only wish the books were arranged by age group as it would be a little easier to find what you're looking for. Hand sanitizer is provided by the front door. Bottom Line: Small, local, quaint bookstore with rare books and modern day top sellers. I love a local bookstore so when I come by one I always have to stop in. Back of Beyond Book Store, located on the main drag in Moab has a sizeable collection of rare books as well as mainstream books. I enjoyed walking the aisles and checking out the employee's picks, books on the local area, cards, stationary and writing supplies and even the kids section. Oddly I never saw an employee but I am sure there was one somewhere amongst the stacks. read more

Tidy, orderly and wide variety of books that play into a certain ideology? The clerk was as warm as a tepid bath but answered my question if she had the rare book I was looking for; she did not. Lots of what appear to be rarer titles in lovely display cases. Plenty of... material to keep you out of a reeducation camp... that being said, critical thinkers were notice the obvious and offensive tilt. 3/5 for tidy and organized. -2 for Orwellian vibes. read more

Solid selection and cool vintage section was pretty big! Some gems for sure. Nothing was overpriced. Came in while an old women was being treated oddly when she realized she couldn't afford her selection. Then had to move out of the way of a storming employee coming out of the back. Tried to ask for help and got ignored. Made what I thought was a lighthearted comment about the interaction and dude at the front was completely over the line and rude. As I was born and bred ina similar town I was shocked but hey maybe that made the guy feel better talking down to that lovely older woman and myself....??? read more

There are few things more charming than a quaint books store in a small town. Moab itself sits at the crossroads of the west, but also at a symbolic crossroads, where motorized adventure meets foot-powered exploring; where red rock meets plush hotel amenities; where new hotels meet a deep vein of wild west mentality. It's a magic place where your adventures can range from winding narrow canyons to wine tasting. It stands to reason, then, that its bookstore would be as diverse and as interesting. I was lured in by a book about great hikes of the world, that beckoned to me from the window. Of course--of course--you're going to be greeted immediately by all the books and authors of the west. Edward Abbey, Wallace Stegner, Aldo, Terry, you know the crew. I dare you to come to Moab, spend time in those red rock hills, and then come in here and NOT want to immediately buy Desert Solitaire and go back out to spend time under the same night sky as Ed did. But beyond the desert/west/history, this really is a full service bookstore and then some. They have a big collection of antique books--many are old government publications--and I loved leafing through them. Then there is the kid's section in the back, which has a small assortment of general interest kids books as well as more Utah-centric titles. Gifts, postcards, knick knacks; there are a few. But all in all, it's full of the local desert flavor and for sure a neat stop if you're in town. Loved this little bookstore. The lady that helped me was super friendly and helpful. They have a lot of really interesting nature and science books. Have a lot of current popular reads picked up front as well. Some art supplies in the front of the store and a cute kids section in the back. I am currently jobless and spending a lot of time alone and at home because of this virus so I figured I would buy some paint to pass the time. I noticed the store was not allowing customers to browse to prevent germs, so I called in to see my options. The employee who helped me on the phone was EXTREMELY helpful. He went through all their art supplies - paint brushes, paper, water colors, etc. - and gave me the pricing, quality and his personal experience with each item. I chose which ones I wanted and he put them aside for me. I showed up, paid and left within a few minutes of my phone call. I had also been meaning to read the book Sapiens for months now and he was so nice and helpful that I decided to purchase the book through the local bookstore rather than save money and buy it on my Kindle. I didn't catch his name, but the male employee with the long blonde hair - THANK YOU. Honestly, best customer service I have ever received. Oh, and they are doing 20% off for locals at the moment! Amazing bookstore with a stellar collection of new and used books. I love that the books are divided by topic areas that seem to be tailored to the local book reader's palate -- refusing to give off a mega bookstore feel and opting instead for local charm and taste. Unlike typical bookstores -- fiction and sci-fi sections are driven into the background, whereas books with themes around natural history, adventure, travel, the West, and Native American culture are brought to the foreground. Oh my goodness this store was great! The owner is so friendly and they have any book that you need. I love history and she had many to choose from. My daughter is an artist and forgot her shading pencil, this store had the type she was needing . We broke down outside of Moab and didn't have any intentions of stopping. It's a nice little book store with really helpful and sweet staff. Good collection of books from different genres. They also have some stationary including paints and journals. As a part of Covid 19 measures, customers are asked to sanitize their hands before entering the store. There is a huge bottle of sanitizer placed at the door for convenience. read more
