This takes me to the Riverbank/Modesto area where I had the opportunity to check out "Thrift Shop & More". When searching for thrift shops in the Modesto area, a different business name came up tied to this address, "Shaws Hole-n-The-Wall". However, at some point, they had changed their name. Located at a small strip mall at the corner of Oakdale Rd & Sylvan Ave, it is tough to determine as to when this place actually opened. The front parking area leaves a lot to be desired as I saw a ton of miscellaneous furniture and other various knick-knacks placed in cardboard boxes. Once entering, there were three (3) ladies (which I am guessing is the owner & employees) sitting down and chatting away. My lady and I were quite surprised that the narrow pathway went as far back as it did. Think of the actual walking area as a somewhat rectangular layout yet with used, secondhand merchandise placed in all directions. The primary issue I have with this place is that I did not see a single thing I liked here! Parking here with the 'main' entrance seemed a bit questionable as the entire strip-mall was quite dilapidated. But the inside had stuff that you're more likely to see at a yard sale. However, the one drawback is that none of the merchandise had price tags on it. There was one clutch purse that my lady liked; however, it had some defects on it. One of the ladies said $10 then the other lady said $5. However, having thoroughly inspected it, I don't think it was even worth that much. When you factor in the cleanliness of the establishment, weird layout, a suspect location (even though In-N-Out Burger is a block away), and no prices on what looks like more trash than treasures, I am giving "Thrift Shop & More" a lower than average two-star rating. I would hope Yelp updates the name as well as the business hours. As of August 2026, their business hours are 10am-6pm seven days a week. Will I be back here? Probably not. But if you ever pass through this part of Modesto, check it out for yourself and you'll see what I mean.

One complaint is on sale days, they close all the dressing rooms. They only have 3 dressing rooms to begin with. When you have a sale on clothing, it doesn't make sense to close the dressing rooms. I believe it is because they don't want the added hassle of cleaning up after people who might leave it a mess. I'm not sure. But forcing customers to try it on over their clothing or not being able to try it on at all, is not good business sense, in my opinion. You cannot return it if it isn't the right fit for you. Please reconsider opening the dressing rooms during a clothing sale! The staff there are usually pretty nice, I have encountered one that was rude, and I avoid her if possible. Their prices are sometimes worth it and sometimes not. When they have a certain color tag it is 50% off. Which can make it worthwhile. However, sometimes the item is not worth what they are asking for it. For example, if they have an item from the dollar tree marked for $3.00, even at 50% off, it makes it $1.50, when it was $1.25 brand new from the dollar tree. I understand it is a charity, however customers want a good deal. At least I know I do.

The rest of the store is priced fairly, and this location has a large parking lot. There is no public restroom inside, and your hands will get dirty from flipping through everything, so plan ahead if you want to spend time browsing through their huge selection. The staff were helpful and friendly. I do wish they carried a little more books and video games, because I did find some but was only just a handful. Context: When my father passed, he left behind a house (in Tracy) packed with 30 years of collecting cookware, books, art, records, telescopes, camping gear, and clothes. He also left behind 3 storage units. I had spent a couple of months trying to make sense of things, and then realized I wasn't making progress on my own. James responded within a day to my initial inquiry, and then toured my dad's property and advised there was so much stuff that we should probably do 2 separate estate sales. From the beginning, he was transparent about his process and professional. Once preparation started, his team came in quickly to sort and display SO much stuff, and priced it to move while also maximizing the value of items sold. Things were priced as small knick knacks up to thousand dollars+ telescopes and stereo equipment. I really appreciated the time the team took to look up these specialty items so they could get their fair value while still being sold within the time of the estate sale. Some other nice touches: I gave James his own codes for entry and arming/disarming the house, which allowed him to self-manage estate sale prep. He always made it clear when his team was to be expected on site. James consistently checked in with me about anything he had questions about (e.g. what to do about items that probably wouldn't sell due to damage, or if I was okay doing a second day.) His team took the time to set aside any personal items that I hadn't yet uncovered within the boxes in my dad's house. It's also clear that EoA's marketing system works really well, as I heard from a neighbor there was a line down the block to get in. After the sales, I worked with EoA to finish clearing out my dad's house to prepare it for sale. They left the house spotless, and even took the time to lay out missing closet doors that had been uncovered. I can't recommend working with James and his team enough. I was able to reclaim my life and also made enough money to put towards my kids' college fund.

The cashiers were rude, especially the gentleman. I will never attend their sales again nor will my mother in law that got trampled on by one of their workers in the livingroom as she was looking at the crystal animals. We left in utter disbelief you guys should be ashamed.
