Huge music and movie store, with one half dedicated to media and the other half selling clothes. They have 2 long rows of DVDs and CDs that were marked down to clearance, with most discounted to be under 2 dollars each. The rest of the store is priced fairly, and this location has a large parking lot. There is no public restroom inside, and your hands will get dirty from flipping through everything, so plan ahead if you want to spend time browsing through their huge selection. The staff were helpful and friendly. I do wish they carried a little more books and video games, because I did find some but was only just a handful. I appreciated that they had a small selection for Asian media. read more

I spotted the logo from the highway and had to stop in, and I'm really glad I did. This place is massive and packed with a huge selection of physical media. Tons of CDs, DVDs, records, and books to browse through, which was awesome to see. They also have a surprisingly large clothing section that's definitely worth taking time to go through. You could easily spend a couple of hours here just browsing. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Overall, a great stop if you're into physical media or just enjoy wandering through a big, well stocked store. I'll definitely be back. read more

I'm so happy to have found this place! Such a cool place to find vintage tees, jackets and dresses! It's fun to stumble upon that one of a kind item that you know no one else will have. Not just any old think from Target or other regular stores. Not to mention THE place to go when you have a decade themed dress up party or costume! This is a huge Thrift store and Music store combo. There is a robust selection of music offered in different forms (CD's/Vinyl/Cassette/VHS). Their book selection is also very broad and well organized. They had decent clothes with something for everyone, and even a small section with New Clothes. The value for what they offer is pretty good for today's economy, especially since we've noticed other thrift store prices going up recently. You can also bring in your gently used clothes, books, and music to sell to them, which can be a satisfying way to recycle for some folks. The vibe is very laid back, and it almost feels a little bit like you stepped back into the 90's, however, the staff was very tight lipped, solemn and unsmiling, and for a moment I thought we were at the SF Ballet. read more

Mad Monk/Rasputin's is where I began collecting vinyl records, so it holds a comforting place in my heart, however throughout the years this place has been going down hill. The prices are reasonable for the most part, and they have a wide selection, though it seems they cater to pop fans the most. The clothing is really so-so, if you're looking the men's section, like genuinely it looks genuinely "eh.." One thing I do not like about the store was an interaction with an employee, they freaked out because I got hand sanitizer from their counter (which I do every time I go, even at other locations.) and the employee working freaked out, like I was stealing something. They began to rant on and on about not touching the hand sanitizer. That's one of the only negative customer experiences I've had, for the most part the staff is quite friendly! Another thing that bothers me about the store is the WiFi always being down, it's uncontrollable, I understand, but sometimes it feels like as soon as I go up to the register they tell me. I can't really say enough great things about this place. My brother and I or my wife and I travel all the way out from Livermore to shop here. I believe its the biggest record store in all of California but no matter what, it's huge. I like to buy DVDs and there are THOUSANDS for 95 cents each. My wife loves to raid the vintage clothing (also super super inexpensive) and my brother usually spends his time digging through VHS. Honestly, we try to come here once every six months or so and thats our whole day. The staff are usually pretty patient (as they ring up our FULL shopping carts) and the selection is just killer. This store is totally amazing! I have been to Rasputin music stores before but this one is such a special one! It is first of all a huge store. They have one of the best rock band tee collections that I have ever seen in one store! Of course they have the usual music and movie collection of multimedia- DVDs, CDs, records, etc. like at any Rasputin store. However, this store has so much more! It has also books, clothing and shoes at amazing prices and sales! OMG! My sweetie found popular brand slacks for as low as $4! I found a designer jacket from the QVC with original tags for $8!!! Oh, and all shoes are $5 with some priced less. And, they have fitting rooms! Quite a few thrift stores including Savers and some Goodwills no longer have fitting rooms which can be upsetting if you purchase clothing that does not fit...you just hope the store accepts a return in such a case! Anyhow, this place has amazing deals. The reason why I give this store 4 out of 5 stars is because some of the items I see there really should be just thrown away. I saw many worn out shoes that I doubt anyone would want to buy. But that makes it an even more fun challenge to find some actual decent shoes. My boyfriend did find a pair of leather shoes for $5 what were worth about $150 new by Rockport and I found a pair of leather shoes that looked like new that were originally about $80 I forgot the brand. Oh and the young group of staff that work there are so friendly and helpful. They greet you when you come in and say goodbye when you leave. It is little things like that, that make a store stand out above the rest. I do not live close to this store and rarely have an excuse to go up to that area but I really do hope to get the chance to go up there again some time soon. read more

I am describing a personal experience I had with this place. Listen folks do not, and let me emphasize this strongly do not take your items to sell to this place. I know it's a business and they say they pay the highest cash for your items. Let me explain to you what top cash means it means that you are subject to sell for whatever they want to buy it. There was a gentleman in front of me and he took with him about 400 DVDs and Blu-ray and vinyl 45s and albums, I asked him how did it go? He said they offered him $17 for about 100 of the items that comes out to about $.17 cents per item. They told them they were not interested in buying the rest but if he wanted to he could donate them so he did not want to carry them back to the car so obviously he did donate them. I was next and I brought with me about 200 blu rays and about 200 DVDs a lot of titles were hard to find, and every single DVD in there was in its original packaging And every Blu-ray and DVD was an excellent condition they wanted to take advantage of me and offer me $40 for 300 movies. I said OK like I don't think so "ok" and started packing my movies and took them back home. Here's why ..,do not trust these people the first thing they do is buy stuff really cheap so they can pay the employees and they can pay for their overhead and their utilities and insurance and what not then they make a profit.APL of this by making you feel dependent on them for money. Well first, they pay all the employees and pay all their bills by stating that they pay top cash for items to lure you to their store. Top cash ?, not true at all they are a rip off.And if you want to buy do some more research on OfferUp or on some other website, you could probably get the movies cheaper. If not, at least you could return them if there's an issue this place in my opinion because of my experience is ripping people off. They might not want us to tell you about this, but my suggestion is there are a lot of people willing to buy DVDs and Blu-ray in good shape and box sets and give you better pricing than this place will. Do not do not do not do not do not do not do not!!!!!..." let me emphasize"., Do not waste your time by calling them or going over there because they will not give you a good deal and all the vinyl that they buy they don't tell you what it's worth, I saw these people in action so I'm letting you know right now do not sell cassettes , records or movies to these people shame on them. Some of that stuff is worth literally $40 to $1,000's of dollars do the research first...I would not recommend these people at all and I tell it like it is and I tell the truth look on OfferUp or other websites that people do buy and give you a better deal let's put these people out of business. read more

Whenever I visit the Central Valley, I make it a priority to visit Mad Monks (Rasputin's), since I don't have one where I currently live. This place is massive. Someone can literally be here for hours and still barely scratch the surface. The prices for movies are great, especially the $1.99 deals. Normally, Disney BluRays are $20 and up because they're classics (Snow White, Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, etc), but I got about 6 of them for $1.99 each. The majority of films are $10 and under, so that's great. Their selection of CDs is large, as well as their vinyls. I also love that they sell VHS tapes, especially the classic Disney foldable ones. read more

I was really excited to see this as one of my first jobs in my teenagers was at Rasputin records. So many of them have since shut down which is disappointing because it was always such a cool store. I was super impressed by what I saw when I came in here because it has literally everything, posters, clothing and music in typical Rasputin fashion of new and used options. I didn't spend too much time in here because I was just getting a gift certificate for my son for Christmas. This place is barely ever open everyone I look at their hours it always changes every few weeks. I've been in to sell cloths before and they barely take anything even of great value but when I go into the store there is stained old cloths that I don't thing anyone will want. The vintage side of the store is good but can be hit or miss. Some of their new items are good and in style but overpriced since this is the main way they make money. Customer service is usually fine I don't mind not being talked to when I just want to look around stores and they're always nice at checkout. I was in dire need of the weezer blue album in vinyl and guess what they had it. Weezer is like such a vibe dude. Oooweeee ooooo I look just like buddy holly type shit. The guitar tone on that album is just pure awesome sauce. Pinkerton is a bop too but bro do I look like I got $70 right now. Extremely rude employees, smelly store, even pornos in an open section that kids could see if you don't rush them by. Easily could be placed in a closed-off area but isn't. Ridiculous restrictions. You don't need to take shopper's temps, you are cashiers, not medical techs, at a used item store that is filled with already contaminated merch. Their employees and affiliates harassed us for weeks for leaving negative reviews and yelp just keeps deleting honest reviews for non-TOS violations with no action on the harassment. Before heading to checkout I stopped at the sunglasses that are sitting in front of the registers, I tried on one pair of glasses, not my type, then tried on another pair which I really liked, I pulled down my mask for no more than 5 seconds to see if they looked good on my face and the cashier immediately jumped on my case about having my mask down. I completely understand that masks are required and there were plenty of enough signs letting me know they would refuse service if I wasn't wearing one, but I'm frustrated because she knew exactly what I was doing and there was nobody else around me. I then walked to the register to pay for my things and her and the cashier standing next to her proceeded to have a full on conversation while checking me out and barely acknowledged me. Used Hip-hop CDs - This place is loaded with CDs...I am specific to rap/hip-hop in my search and was pleased to find a healthy volume to choose from. It is getting hard in this market to find much, but was pleased to find titles that filled gaps in my collection. Pricing is the only knock...hate to say it, but this type of collectible needs to be competitive with the internet...so I skipped on a few potentials. I love this store and have been there frequently. This time though left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Part of it is my fault though but the checker shoulders some responsibility too. Took my CD purchases to the counter. USUALLY they are checking the contents of the cases as they ring you up to make sure you didn't switch the cheap disc for a more expensive one. This time I am guessing they skipped this step. I got home and was looking through all the cases and realized that two of the cases were actually empty. I should have caught this and I will be more careful in the future. But if they were actually checking the contents at checkout, why didn't they catch it and say something?? read more

I want to start by saying I fully support stores who have mask requirements and I don't have a problem with it. Also would like to note that this is a great store, prices are more than fair and there are some AWESOME finds here and the scale of the place is great for what it is, I could walk around and comb through the inventory for long periods of time. But the staff, and one associate in particular were absolutely awful. I kept a mask on over my nose the entire time. However, there was an elderly woman about 80 years old with a walker, whose mask came off her nose. She was approached by an associate with pink hair who yelled at her to put the mask over her nose. When I use the word yell, I'm not over exaggerating. The way she told her to put the mask over her nose was beyond disrespectful. Then she began stalking her and watching her like a hawk just waiting for an opportunity to do it again. As soon as the mask came off the ladies nose a second time; she approached her and said "I'm not telling you again! Put the mask over your nose or you will be asked to leave!" Some people think this is perfectly acceptable but, i don't think this elderly woman was intentionally trying to break rules, she was treated with such disgusting disrespect. I also heard her do the same thing to man whose nose was barely peaking out the top of his mask. When I was checking out, the two girls working the register get a call on their walkie talkie from the pink haired associate saying "I need you to make sure everyone up there has their mask over their nose!" also with the same attitude. The ladies at the register let out a labored sigh as if to say "not this again". There were two children about 3 or 4 years old accompanied by their mother with masks not covering their nose, they were asked politely by the two girls at the checkout counter and obliged. Again; it isn't the rule that is bothersome. It was the fact that this woman almost seemed drunk with power and it was disgusting to me. That elderly customer is somebody's mother or grandmother and her only crime was letting her mask slip down while she was in an area by herself looking at books. I won't leave a one star review, as a business owner I feel bad leaving 1 star because of one bad employee. I understand how damaging it can be. However, having an employee that conducts themself in that way is far more damaging to a business and whoever is in charge there needs to know about this. I've spoken with other people who have shopped in there and when I brought up the pink haired lady they laughed and told me they had witnessed the same out of line behavior and were also put off by it. There were also other people in the store witnessing what I witnessed and everybody kinda just stood there looking confused and disgusted by it. This lady is obviously on a nasty power trip and needs to be told to tone it way back. Not only the way she talks to customers but, also how she talks to fellow employees. I believe she's a manager so whoever is in charge needs to tell her she isn't the covid police, she's just a secondhand store employee with a walkie talkie read more

What's any better then being able to buy all your old favorites on the cheap?! I love this place! We can find a lot of old movies that come up and we want to see again. We seriously have no way of watching our old favorites any more without Hollywood video or Blockbuster, so we go buy it! The employees are so nice and will help you find what you are looking for!
