My new favorite thrift store in Modesto. Not only is it huge but they are one of the only thrift stores that still have fitting rooms open! They have everything! Plus tons of nice furniture. They have great discounts depending on the day you go. Thank you to the kind man that was working cash register, you made my day helping me re-price the dress that I fell in love with. Awesome staff, props to them for working in the heat. I've been dropping off clothes the last couple days and they work in the horrible heat with friendly smile. Today I brought them bottled water. I'll be back to drop off more good items, clean and very usable. I've lost weight plus im moving so I'll be donating much more items. I'm proud to give them the items rather than the Hope Chest. I worked at THAT company so I feel the items will do much more for the community and I like that there sign lists the directors DO NOT receive compensation. I know the other company very well, I shouldn't share much more but definitely give your goods to the Salvation Army when donating. Currently they accept clothes only between 3pm to 5pm other goods 9am to 3pm (also they take clothes at that time too). Tomorrow I'll bring home items before 3pm. read more

I truly don't understand why are they gonna put dresses on display in the window with price tags on them but not be allowed to sell them. Not a terrible experience but not epic either just okay. Walking in I got hit in the face with a blast of bleach,some dude mopping the whole store at 1:00pm on a Saturday...why? A larger thrift shop in square footage but pretty messy. It's on the dark side being there are only windows in the front. The prices are fair and they have discounts on certain colored tags. I got these two gorgeous chairs for $10. They have a lot of good quality items for a good price, the place is clean and well organized.

My family and I have went to this thrift store for years and haven't had an issue, but won't go back now. I found a pair of pants in my length, which is difficult to do since my legs are so long, and went to purchase them. I was told I had to buy something else if I wanted to use tap to pay bc there's a $10 minimum to use card. Thrifting is for low cost items, why is there a minimum to buy? It's a thrift store. I'm really surprised they would make me buy unnecessary items when I only wanted the pants. read more

Over the years I've depended on Good Samaritan Thrift Store to take my "extra" stuff to give away. The have accepted 99% of the things I bring in and it's been a big help for me. So, we still frequent this store on a regular basis. Not as much as before our last incident. However, there are a few gentlemen workers that are awesome. Stephen and Alex have always been kind, friendly, and helpful. There is another young man that helped my son's dad out a few times, I'm sorry I cannot remember his name. These employees get 5 out of 5 stars in my book! I have not found that much women's clothing section that I liked in my size. Yes, they have some cute clothing, mostly in smaller sizes. My main beef with the women's plus size section is that there's always the wrong size mixed in. Like someone hides their good finds in this section, and the employees aren't on top of rearranging it properly. On the other hand, I have found several men's t-shirts and jeans. Mostly, I look for board/card games, knick knacks, and craft supplies I can use. My guys like the electronic department. For a long time the bell didn't work when pressed, forcing us to leave the area and ask someone to be paged. The last few times we've tried it, surprisingly, an employee will come out. They still have specific days for seniors, students, and veterans. Also, they have a color system with three different colors (it changes regularly). The first color of the day is 20% off, second is 50% off, and the last color is $1.00. Finally, The Good Samaritan has everything 50% off (with some exceptions, I think) the last Wednesday of the month. I have not been there on one of these days, I imagine it must get a little crazy, as most big sale days do. I've found some good fabric, and even electronics this way, $1.00 for the color of the day. Only downside was that once I found a pillow case set with Coca-Cola pictures on it, and I loved and wanted to purchase it very much. Someone took one, or it fell off, and couldn't be found. So, the employee refused to sell the remaining one! I've never understood why they refuse to sell items. Especially if someone else has taken a price tag off, the store would rather take it in the back and wait a day or so before putting it back on the sales floor. read more

As a senior citizen when we go shopping, we'd love to take our time and enjoy looking over all the clothing of the merchandise that they have, but they close the bathroom to the public as a senior citizen when we need to go to the restroom we need to go most of us have bladder issues so because I was forced to stop shopping and go somewhere else I will not be returning. This is by far my favorite thrift store in Modesto. I'm usually able to find really nice clothing and shoes for reasonable thrift prices. The store is kept clean and the staff is always very courteous and professional. I would like to give a 5-star review, however, this past Sunday the general manager (redhead female) was there. My husband and I were so shocked to hear the way she spoke to the staff. I have shopped here several times a month for at least the last 6 years and the staff has always been great. I was embarrassed for them today, to hear how she spoke down to them and shouted orders at them in front of customers. No way I could tolerate that behavior, not at all appropriate or necessary. I was looking for a few specific random things and they had exactly what I needed! Not only was I able to check those items off my list but they also happened to be mostly items that were on sale (either $1 or half off depending on the tag color). The workers were very nice and helpful and there was relatively no line so I got helped very quick. I have watched this store go from one of my favorite bargain hunting shops to setting their prices so high, you can rarely find a deal. Seriously, whoever prices the items here is delusional. You can occasionally still find a treasure, but it is few and far between. All this from a thrift store that receives their items from donation. If someone gave me something for free and I sold it for $1, that is $1 more than I had. Why then price an item at retail or above? Many of the employees here are very friendly to me. I truly appreciate that. I have heard the employees complain that the owners treat them poorly. The interior here is no frills. After all, it is a thrift store. My expectations for decor here is low and those expectations have been met. I still come here to shop every now and then. I used to shop here daily. Eventually I will just bypass this store if their prices do not come back down to earth. read more

I recently started donating here because the sign said they help widows and orphans. I only donate higher quality items, i.e. new or gently used shoes & clothes with name brands; also household & collectibles. Some reviews were not very positive so I decided to personally inspect the store after a recent donation. I talked to customers, mostly busy & positive attitudes loading carts. There was one impatient and grumpy person annoyed because another customer was blocking the aisle! When I circled up to the counters a guy named Omar helped me price two desks for a friend; he patiently explained pricing stickers on furniture, blue 20% off, orange $1.00 total!?! I texted pictures to my friend and bought the vintage desk for $23!!! Omar had me drive to front to load; loaded within 3 minutes. BTW Omar had a huge line at the same time he helped me! (My friend has 3 teenage sons and is going through financial problems keeping his home - he is thrilled with this blessing!) Grumpy customers need to remember there are costs to run a business and what this store's purpose is, and especially that human beings work there. Only God is perfect. Merry Christmas! read more

Absolutely disgusting! Couldn't even be in there for five minutes. As soon as I walked in it smelled like mold and curine. There are holes in he wall, the floors ar covered in filth and grime. Every single item in the store is covered in grime and stains. The stuffed animals and covered in what smelled like urine some even having vomit on them. For all the stains and rips and smells the plush toys had they were way overpriced, somehow the jewelry was cheaper. I would never go back there. Best plus-size clothing selection of all the thrifts on McHenry, and the clothing section is large overall. Houseware selection is worth looking at but not huge. There is also furniture of varying qualities as you walk in the door. This is one of two local thrifts where I pretty reliably find neat-o clothing that fits. Be prepared to be blasted with KLUV's biggest hits about Jesus during your shopping experience. Also be prepared for the checkout line to block your access to dresses. Staff have always been super-nice to me. Donation drop-off experience varies -- I think from the boxes out back, they're getting swamped and are thus getting cranky about picking through what you brought before letting you leave it. read more

OVERPRICED! I haven't been here in over2 months since the prices have increased substantially. I returned last week and wasn't there for long as nothing has changed. Clothes are way overpriced especially. Old and rancid lotions behind the "boutique" area too. What takes the cake are the stuffed animals. Most have prices written on tags. There are 2 overflowing bins and they want $5-$9 for stuffed animals. Most are dirty. This one was laughable: almost $9 for something that had feces/chocolate on it. Pathetic! My last visit with them was terrible. The workers have always been mean and inpatient. I usually ignore the rudeness and look for a deal. I've always walked off feeling a bit frustrated with the service. My two year old was sitting on a play car playing with a toy. Not bothering anyone. SENIORS BEWARE; Terrible customer service. Front desk team needs training. They are not trained well enough to accept donations for pick up from your house; This happened today: 1) I ordered a pick up and prepared the items, using my energy and time to have in order for a seemless move. Preparation meant moving furniture. 2) I went to the store to schedule the truck. I told the front desk exactly what they were picking up and that the table /Desk was old and was used in the garage as an activity table. Its nothing beautiful but functional. I ask to have this man go to the warehouse and make sure they could pick up the items. THEY SAID YES 3) Truck arrives. Nice enough man to deal with . He was thankfully polite. But he rejected OLD table desk saying not in good enough order for him to take. There was too much in the warehouse ( Mind you I went the day before and they said they had room). I actually begged him to take it. He said NO. And that was that. 4) I did not give him a TV, a Hairdryer, 3 bags of good clothing for children, brand new three piece samsonite luggage in perfect condition. If the table that they said could be picked up, why should I donate. I can put in my own car and deliver to COMMUNITY HOSPICE. Although pick up is very reasonable ( 25 dollars in MODESTO), it is NOT WORTh YOUR TIME AND ENERGY TO PREPARE FURNITURE FOR PICK UP . The driver said I should have given pictures to the front desk, but is that really my issue SINCE THE FRONT DESK STAFF ARE POORLY TRAINED IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. They might have asked for pictures and for me to return instead of OK the pickup . This would have saved aggrevation. THIS NON-PROFIT STORE NEEDS TO GET ITS ACT TOGETHER. IT NEEDS TO TRAIN ITS STAFF BETTER. IT NEEDS To POST WHAT THEY WANT and WHAT A CUSTOMER MUST DO to PREP FOR PICKUP. I have been an Executive Director of three non-profits with one that had a THRIFT STORE. I know the business. I know that it is hard to get staff. BUT IT IS THE NON PROFIT BOARD AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR that are responsible for TRAINING STAFF ( or making sure this SOP is written and carried out. ) IT IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF the CUSTOMER unless the store posts information and advises. I will be announcing this at meetings in the future as I am a County Commissioner telling SENIORS to give elsewhere. Suffice it to say, I am aggravated at the waste of time and that I changed my schedule for today to accommodate pick up. This store changes their color tags every Monday. They have a boutique that supposedly has high-end items however, before they open on Mondays, they remove whichever color is on sale for $1.00 . I was at the store on Saturday 5 minutes before they closed ( closed Sundays). There were many items that would be $1.00 on Monday. I was the first person in the store Monday morning, I went straight to the boutique , and I saw an employee removing the would-be $1.00 items . Some of those items I saw at their other store Trinity thrift. Not good business in my opinion. read more

Horrible donation experience TWICE Bottom line is you better only try to donate super high quality items and only in season. Attempted to drop off 6 totes of sealed board games new with tags clothes new tupperware but when they opened the first tote it had a santa on a sleigh that was bought years past for 68.00 from Macy's not Dollar store garbage They stated " Were not taking Christmas right now" I said " it's not all Christmas" They didn't want anything. On the Second attempt ( stupid on my part) I had 4 totes of glass pitchers, Italian glass Wine glases Retro highball glasses, and 2 new with tags winter tire cables. AGAIN they stated "we're not taking chains right now" and they didn't want the glassware either stating they had too much already. Both times I tracked a few miles down McHenry to the Salvation Army and they were super helpful super friendly and took everything, I and the other people in the 6 cars in front of me had to offer. I have donated several times without writing a review. I last went to drop off jackets, pants, hats, and about eight pairs of shoes. I am familiar with most donation locations, but one thing made this one different. There was one gentleman at the time I arrived and a line of about six cars. I had a large tub with things separated individually. Four bags altogether. I parked my vehicle and grabbed the tub to make it easier on the gentleman helping others. As I approached to ask where I could place items, the gentleman said they were not taking showers or hats and that I had to come back. I paused for a moment and thought to myself. What would a valid reason be not to take shoes and hats? Overstocked and too many hats? He stated, only clothing. I dropped the clothing off and drove around town looking for people needing shoes. It took me making two stops from the location and done. Made me think of the possibilities and loss of $$$. A family member gave me the stuff to take there. There were a few pairs of shoes, almost new, but not my size. There were a few pairs of cowboy boots, I don't wear, and very nice hats. I do not feel comfortable giving the store a low rating. I also understand what it's like to be short-handed. What I am having a hard time understanding is the rejection of good items and asking to come back. I have not seen a schedule for item drops posted anywhere. (shoes on Monday-Clothing on Wed, and so on) And the gentleman helping did not seem like he was happy to be there. I get it, it is work and some folks wish had one. Humanity has lost respect for many things in life, overall. People walk into the store to purchase items knowing it's for a good cause. There can be a better way developed to accommodate the gentleman's possible extra load. There is a missing connection from store to receiving. First time visiting this store, As my family and I tend to go on thrift store raids. We decided to venture out towards Modesto. The store was great, however my 2 stars comes from the staff, My husband had dropped his keys somewhere in the store & after asking several employees if someone had turned them In and even retracing our steps, I decided to ask the young man behind the counter again( thinking maybe someone had turned them in by some miracle), the young man after hearing me describe my keys pulled them from his pocket with no explanation & handed them to me. This thrift store is not right, the have a dollar sale so every week it changes colors, so if there's something good they will change the tag on that item or they will take it to the back and bring it out a few days later. Also the managers there go threw the stuff and take what they want home. They are not supost to do that with other people's stuff.. read more
