I really wanted to support a local stylist, but unfortunately this experience left me feeling…read morebamboozled and disappointed. I paid $275 (close to $300 after everything) for a very basic braided style no custom design, no added length, no special detailing, and no extras included. While the braids are neat, the style itself does not match the premium price point. This is something that would typically cost significantly less in other areas, and nothing about the experience justified the cost. No wash, no added service, no luxury finish just standard braids at a luxury price. This feels like yet another example of Bay Area hair pricing with no added value, and as a client, that's frustrating. I don't mind paying for quality, but I do expect transparency and pricing that aligns with the service provided. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return or recommend based on value alone.

After trying out different stylists with less then stellar results, I have to say DeeDee does exceptional work! Especially considering my hair is not processed, other stylists have not been able to get the right degree of straight and bouncy that I prefer. My hair was grown a lot and become much healthier since she has been my stylist. She always works around my schedule and if I have an last minute event that I'd like my hair done for, 9 times out of 10 DeeDee finds time within her busy schedule to accommodate me. I always leave very satisfied and looking 10 times better than when I walked in lol. I really don't know what issues a reviewer is referring to about the quality of the work she does. I had a hair style that I kept in for 4 MONTHS (with regular maintenance)! But I have never been disappointed in the quality of her work, and I'm pretty hard to please with my hair! I've even had my hair done by Ashley once (another stylist there) when I was strapped for time and just walked in -- and after I told her what I needed she went out of her way to make sure I left with the style I wanted and usually get. I also really love the atmosphere of the salon, it's open, spacious and very inviting with a large window that let's in a lot of light. I've been to other salons where it was really dark and cramped feeling. On the weekends, they even have fresh fruit and beverages while you wait. So basically, I'm very loyal to this salon because they're very loyal to my satisfaction!

I don't even know where to start, so I'll just dive right in. I've been struggling with my…read morepartially curly/partially straight hair my whole life. Extremely frustrating, to say the least. We've all been to a million stylists and poured out our concerns, frustrations, and hopes for getting our hair to look like we want it to. Not only when you step away from that appointment, but ideally for at least a few weeks after the appointment. Trying to maintain the wrong cut and trying to keep it looking fresh is a struggle within itself and what has been happening to me for most of my life. I now know that is because all along I've need a Hairapist, not a "Stylist". So then comes the day I entered this dope little salon for my appointment with LaTasha the Hairapist. Let's start with the vibe of her salon - so aesthetically lit, I'd want to have a private cocktail party in there. So pretty and decorated so fly! LaTasha has a warmth about her that is so welcoming, from the moment you step inside this hair sanctuary of hers. And when you sit in her chair, the magic begins and lasts not only after your appointment is over (and I didn't want it to end, trust!) but for weeks/months afterwards! I'm currently at 2 months and my hair is still looking right thanks to her technique as well as all of the knowledge she instilled in me during our session. I've seen others on here refer to LaTasha as a curl whisperer, a hair goddess - well, she certainly is. I felt so spoiled by her treatment of my hair and scalp while in the bowl, and while in her chair as she gave me the most transformational cut, that brought to life all the layers of curls that were hiding underneath my straight heavy pieces. The curls came to life before my eyes, and I am geeking like nobody's business!! Because of the tips she gave me during our session, I have been able to easily maintain my fabulous new do, even while being as busy as I am. I'm excited to be back in her chair next week to receive the magic again, and to hang with this unique woman, so filled with light and an incomparable love for her passion! 15 years of experience is nothing short of amazing when she pours all of that, plus her passion, into transforming your hair and sending you off floating on a cloud. I'm so grateful I was referred to LaTasha through a friend, and mark my words, you won't ever catch me in another chair besides this gifted Hairapist's chair. Next time it's about to be a photoshoot, I wish I'd taken pics the first time! THANK YOU LATASHA! You've changed my life!

Long review alert lol…read more Nenefua (Cynthia) is all sorts of wonderful :))) I first met her 10 years ago (when her shop was on Adeline in Berkeley). She did my crochet braids with body wave hair. It looked like a human hair weave and was gorgeous! Lots of compliments! She just did my hair for the second time -- 10 years, 1 cross-country move, and lots of life events later. Since 10 years ago, I only got braids (crochet braids) twice, and I only let my play sister do them lol. Ummmmm... otherwise, I knew I needed to wait until I was back in the Bay Area for Nenefua to do my braids. This time she did beautiful, very small, very long Senegalese twists (what we call micro, but what she told me aren't really micro lol). She provided beautiful synthetic hair (extra, reasonable cost) that looks and feels like human hair. Love it!! Her excellent work, personality and calm demeanor make her my braider -- well-worth the cross-country trip!

Amazing quality-- not only the final product, but also my time spent in the chair…read more I had the pleasure of having my hair done by NanaEfuwa (Cynthia) today and was not disappointed. My lower back length Senegalese twists are all that I wanted-- and more. Upon arrival, we had a consultation where she took the time to patiently walk me through the process of understanding cost of the service as having three variables: 1) girth/size of braid (from micro to jumbo--she even has a standardized ring to help you decide), 2) length of the braid from the scalp (shoulder length, mid-back, etc.) and 3) density of the braids (how many braids will be placed in your hair given the other two variables). I had a LOT of questions--primarily how she would be able to make braids that were durable on hair that was recently tapered and less than an inch long in some parts. After ensuring I was happy with the intersection of what I desired and what was possible (as well as all feeling good about the price), we started the process. First, it was quite the visual experience watching her blend hair colors. From my description of "medium brown with light brown/golden tones", she took three different colors and started turning them together in her hands, personalizing my hair bundles. She said no two of her clients ever have exactly the same color-- what an unexpected delight! After having me approve of the final hair, she started braiding. I appreciate her checking in with me to ensure I was happy with a few test rows before reaching a point where it would not have been as easy to pivot (she didn't need to change anything, but I appreciate the question). I also benefitted greatly from the stillness offered in her salon. I closed my eyes and enjoyed silence (even nodded off a few times), engaged in captivating conversation, stared at degrees on the wall and wondered "What happened to Julie?"** and watched a master beautician impart her knowledge onto the next generation through apprenticeship. Overall, I am so grateful a ChatGPT prompt for "low-tension braiders in the Bay Area" displayed her shop. NanaEfuwa specializes in taking care of the scalp and your hair (as well as your entire being), so in addition to using natural products, she utilizes specific techniques to hold the braid in slight counter traction to oppose the pull generated while braiding. Between me, NanaEfuwa or Una holding the braids at various times, the entire process was at most uncomfortable-- never painful. I wanted to write this review to thank NanaEfuwa and help others to make a great decision to reach out. I have found my Bay Area Braider and maybe even a new friend! **look at the two "Board Member" signatures on the degrees and compare 2018 to 2022. Of course, you have to book a service to sit in her chair to do so. You should. :-)
