Sol Environmental is better. Sol was recommended to me by a senior entertainment attorney overseeing a large legal team, and that endorsement proved accurate. When I first met with Raul and Nick at Sol Environmental, I immediately recognized their technical depth and concern for the clients. They discussed testing protocols for contaminants that most hygienists overlook or simply don't understand--particularly the volatile organic compounds and particulate matter that pose serious health risks in post-fire environments. When other hygients test for lead and asbestos, Sol is testing for everything: mercuty, silica, arsenic, dioxins, cadmium, barium lithium, you name it in addition to the lead and asbestos. What sets Sol apart is their background as specialty remediation contractors. They also offered to leave their containment up (including some temp poles) for the duration of my build-back project. The only downside I found during the process was the need to pay for the site visit for the quote. This payment is credited to the bill and it wound up being a non-issue due to selecting BH environmental for the job, but none of the other companies I had out requested payment for the quoting visit.

None of this process was communicated clearly to us. I appreciate the owner's effort to make it right with a refund of the fee. I wouldn't even recommend requesting an estimate from these people. I wish I hadn't. The star is because someone technically came out. They were the only ones who charged a fee to come out, and their inspector spent a total of maybe 50 seconds in the bathroom that had water damage. The person who came out told us would have an estimate within a day, and no estimate. Unlike the other companies that came out, he made no inquiry about the age of the house or mention of required asbestos testing. Overall, his visit did not inspire confidence that any estimate we did get (if we got one) would be valid or accurate (not require change orders). Maybe the reason why some reviewers say they're cheaper is that they cut corners? (We wouldn't know as we never got our estimate.) We were really dissatisfied even with our (extremely brief) visual inspection experience. Communication with respect to the process was not good (as we don't know what's going on). Clearly my short list selection process failed me here. ETA: Apparently they were waiting on payment for the estimate (no one made clear what this process was), which we finally got, and indeed did not include asbestos testing.

I went in for a mold test and followed every step they instructed, only to be told later that I never took the test. I repeatedly contacted them, explained the situation, and even provided what details I had--but each time, I was told I didn't exist in their system. Eventually, they admitted they "don't use a computer system," which is absolutely baffling and completely irresponsible for any company handling health-related diagnostics. Because of this outdated and disorganized process, my test results were never recorded, tracked, or delivered. They lost my personal information and treated me as if I was the one making a mistake. No accountability. No apology. Just a shrug and an "Oh well." This isn't just poor customer service--it's a potential risk to people's health. If you're considering using this company for anything remotely important, don't. Look elsewhere for a lab that actually knows how to handle sensitive information and respects the people relying on their services.
