I read the reviews and was excited to come here for the prices and quality. Unfortunately my nails look terrible! I could have done better myself. I had a good pedicure but the nails I will have to pay to get redone once I am back in my hometown. They came out extremely bubbly and he cut me several times. I don't mean 2/3, more like 7. I asked for thick white tips and short nails, he assumed that just meant a longer nail. So I wound up with long nails and still a short tip. Very unpleased that I paid 100$ and have something I could have done myself for half the price and done the right way. I only come here a couple times a year for vacay but I won't be coming back here for nails. I will try to post a picture. read more

WARNING - shoddy and incompetent staff. We vacationed in the area and read many nail salon reviews before visiting MK Nails Spa. The staff promptly attended to my adult daughter and me at our scheduled appointment. While my gel manicure and pedicure went flawlessly, I was horrified when the nail technician literally ripped the acrylic nails off my daughter and made four of her nails bleed due to his incompetence. What made it worse, he tried to bully my daughter and place the blame on her and argued with me when I stepped in and said his techniques were unacceptable. We certainly will not be returning to this establishment and encourage others not to as well. read more

If you want your natural nails ruined by gel polish and drills, "gel polish last longer;" go to MK nails and pay $85 for awful service and awful looking mani and pedi. I regularly go to MK when I live here in the summer and fall and have always had a great experience . Every pedicure is thorough, professional, and relaxing. I also get waxed here and it is always fast and flawless. Highly recommend MK, it may look like just another nail "factory", but it is actually very good. read more

I'm here at OBX for vacation and chose here since the Yelp reviews were higher. I had a design in mind and they were able to do it, and I love it. Also I scheduled my appt for 12 and they finished at 1 pm for gel acrylic tips. Timely amd clean there. The only thing that bothered me a bit was when they cut my cuticles, I didnt see a clean bag open but rather taken out from a box of other nail tools. read more

MK nails The first thing I noticed when I entered this salon was how clean and fresh the air smelled. Most nail salons reek of strong nail polish fumes and chemicals, but MK has 9 different ventilation units disbursed throughout their salon which provides for an amazingly well-ventilated experience. No nauseating headaches from strong fumes while you're getting your nails done. I was very pleased with how fast Benjamin and Mindy took my sister and I even though we did not have any appointment. We both got a manicure and pedicure. The experience was very good. Benjamin is very polite and cracks jokes - excellent customer service. This salon also offers 3 different service packages at different prices. The standard service is a simple nail polish package and it is the cheapest. The second services is a 'signature package' which involves both a paint services plus a massage and lotion. This signature package is what my sister and I both selected for our mani and pedi. I noticed that there was some inconsistency in the massage technique for both my sister and I as I was watching her. She received an exfoliation plus warm towels on her hand massage, while I only received a lotion massage. This inconsistency could be considered a negative, but regardless, the massage felt good. The quality of the polish and their level of expertise is excellent. We both got gel polish for our hands and feet. The only definite CON about the whole experience was the price -- it was VERY expensive. For two mani and pedicures, it cost $195 including a tip. The price is worth it though -- Ben and Mindy take very good care of you and are willing to re-do any nail that might get damaged after you leave. I will ceratainly be back!! 5/5 stars read more

Due to there lack of communication and probably understanding they overbooked and one of the party was not able to get any nails or pedicure done. Busy friendly salon. I made appt which is always the best plan. I had a gel manicure with Benjamin and it was excellent. While waiting I was offered a drink of choice. One of which was wine. Major bonus. Very clean establishment and really friendly vibe. This is a hot spot for weddings so definitely book appt vs walk in. Let me first say, I work in a salon which offers pedicures, so I do have a bit of an expectation when it comes to customer service.. so, I came in at 5:20 and asked for a pedicure (I went with the basic pedicure). The lady who asked what I "needed" then rolled her eyes and looked back at the clock. I can now tell you I picked the basic ped because by the reaction when I walked in I felt like I was just a pain to them. The pedicure was done in 20 mins- front to back. The shop was clean, but that would be my only real compliment. Service wise, not very friendly and my polish job was a hack job. I'm normally not a complainer, but my friend and I went here and got the worst ever service I'd seen at a nail salon. We walked in, saying we wanted full sets with a gel manicure. I guess she misunderstood my friend and began to give her only a gel manicure without acrylics. She corrected her saying she wanted acrylics and gel, and the woman literally laid back in her chair and put her hands on her head and started doing breathing exercises like she really needed to calm down. She was clearly pissed and mad at my friend, and then she goes about talking with her about it and trying to shame her for the miscommunication in front of everyone in the salon, it was so unbelievable rude. She told her she'd have to pay for a full gel manicure on top of the the acrylics, an extra 15$ charge even thought she hadn't completed the manicure! My friend didn't have enough for the extra charge too so she just paid and we went to the car because she was upset. She left with only clear coat, no acrylics no color and 20$ less dollars! After the way they treated her (she's a teenager) I had to stick up for her. I went back in and and told them I'm sorry, but that wasn't right. She didn't get anything she wanted and they not only charged her but tried to publicly shame her. I tried to get her money back and they flat out refused and said she could come back in if she had an issue, even though she stated the issue when we were in there together multiple times. They left her embarrassed and unhappy and I saw talking to them was a losing battle so I told them they were very rude and they didn't have to be so mean, and that it wasn't right before leaving. I mean, they straight up tried to embarrass her into silence. All they did was put on a clear coat and cut her cuticles. That's it. Not to mention that before the miscommunication was discovered, they totally ignored me and left me sitting with the nail colors for 20 minutes and when my friend tried to talk to her manicurist (she had gotten her nails done by the same woman before) she just ignored her. We could tell she was in a bad mood when we came in, but we were just trying to be nice because I know how it is sometimes. I could've overlooked it to a certain point, but by the end of the whole ordeal they were just way too rude to be excused. I've never been more disappointed with a nail salon (or angry) and I definitely won't go back. I don't want to support a business that shames kids or tries to embarrass people into paying for a service they didn't receive. No thanks. We went to natural nails after, and it was like day and night. They were so nice and understanding and they did our nails perfectly. It was a stark contrast to the horrible way they treated my friend at MK. So if you're considering this place like I did because they are supposedly the best on the beach, don't even because there are other salons with much kinder nail techs that can help you get what you want. Also, we weren't the only ones appalled by how they talked to my friend, four people that were waiting for pedicures at MK actually went to natural nails instead too because they witnessed it and thought it was unfair, and they mentioned it to me when I saw them again at natural nails. We were not impressed with the manicures or the pedicures that we received. It was very rushed and sloppy. She clipped the cuticles too short on 2 of us and made us bleed. I wouldn't recommend doing a gel manicure here. I went in for the first time to give it a go- always heard great things. An hour later it completely fell off my nail! So i called and asked if they could fix, they were very nice and told me absolutely. I went back in a few hours later and they kindly fixed it and then within 3-4 days they were coming off all my nails. I've been to other Nail Salons on the beach - MK was affordable but considering they don't last long it isn't worth it. Much rather pay an extra $10-15 for my nails to last 2-3 weeks. They do have other techs so perhaps it was the two i dealt with (the original and the fixer) so I don't want to be to harsh but i'd rather spend my $$ elsewhere. read more

One of the worst nail salon experiences I've had in awhile. I took my younger sister in to get manicures for New Years and was really disappointed. The positives - they were quick and affordable. The guy who did my sister's nails was friendly and attentive. Her nails turned out great. Mine did not. For me, it takes a lot of will power to grow out my nails, and I was really excited to get them done. Within seconds and without asking, the girl filed them down into disgusting, pointy squares, taking away all of the length I worked so hard for. Then the hand massage was awful - there was nothing pleasant about it; it just hurt. After she was done, I had to ask the guy who did my sister's nails fix the horrible job she did on the shape. He took away the pointiness of the squares, but that also took away even more length. I went in excited to get my nails done and came away just upset and pissed off. If I could give MK Nails Spa more than 5 stars I would! I called on Friday morning and was able to make an appointment for that same afternoon with Ben, aka Dr Feel-good, Commissioner Feel-good. I walked in and was greeted immediately by not only Ben (with a smile and a huge hello) but by the staff as well. Ben called me over to sit and immediately and politely offered me something to drink. Ben was so funny and friendly yet extremely professional at the same time. He definitely takes pride in his work. I want to first preface this by stating that I am a guy, and I'm super hard to please. I visited MK Nails while in Nags Head on Monday 7/29. My feet were in HORRIBLE condition, I hadn't gotten a pedicure in well over 6 months. I chose this salon due really because of the ratings I'd seen on Yelp. On that day Mimi was assigned to tackle the horror that awaited her. I could tell by the look on her face, she knew this was going to be a HUGE challenge. She def spoke something in Vietnamese to her co-workers, which I think was about the horrific nature of my feet. I was totally ok with it as I'd heard worse from my wife. I was really impressed by the time and precision she spent on my feet. I live in Maryland so they are not allowed to use the cheese grater on feet, thankfully this wasn't the case here. Mimi grated my feet with all of her strength, then spoke something in Vietnamese again, and someone brought out a brand new cheese grater that she proceeded to use on my feet. After she used the scrubber to scrub the heck out of my feet then she carefully analyzed it and then proceeded to grab the grater again and grated my feet again. I LOVE nail(and hair) professionals that take their time to analyze their work to make sure its just right. She did this when it came to cutting my nails and feet cuticles. I had chosen the highest priced pedicure, I think it was $45 because it included a hot stone massage. I wasn't that impressed with the hot stone, so for anyone considering it, just get the 2nd level pedicure, it includes a foot massage. For anyone considering this location(especially guys), def contact Mimi, shes a true perfectionist that spends the time to review and improve her work. I had a wonderful pedicure with "oh, yeah Bill". I feel like a got my money's worth and had a really enjoyable time with my daughter and sister. We called at 10 am and all three were getting pedicures by 12 noon on a Saturday. Everything was clean and efficient, and there was plenty of room for everybody.
