Update: 10 months later and I've had to spend a twice as much to get a brow cover up by a proper, reputable artist. It's not a matter of touch-up, this needed cover up, colour correcting, and took two sessions to fix. The issue is that MK Brows simply don't know what they are doing. On their dominant hand they pressed too hard which resulted in one very dark brow (& healing was much more painful). On the other side they were reaching across and did the tattoo too light and much of it didn't take, hence I have one light brow and one dark. Reputable tattoo artists know this and accommodate for it. As I left the salon, my brows looked so uneven I had to ask for correction, which was done by tattooing a skin-colour pigment over her previous work. It looks like a scar under my brow and only tattoo removal could properly correct it. read more

I've been thinking about microblading for a long time now and have been so hesitant because of costs, the procedure, etc etc.. there's always been a reason. Well I finally decided to pull the trigger. I've been eyeing MK Brows because I've been scanning photos at various businesses to see whose work I liked and what the differences were in shape. I found that I liked the photos posted under MK Brows the most because of the arch/shape of her work and the precision it seemed like she took great care to achieve. I saw that she was having a fall special for $350 plus touch ups and I couldn't pass it up. I scheduled a consultation and there were no issues getting a time that fit my schedule. The consult was just to show me what kind of blade she'd use and discuss the process - literally just 5 mins if that and you can ask Mia questions, if you have any to ease your fears. I scheduled an appointment and was a bit scared the day before and the morning of the procedure. All these "what ifs" in my head.. like what if it got infected or what if I was allergic to the ink and rejected the procedure?! I mean, I do have a history is allergic reactions to metals. If any of you are thinking along those lines - well.. if it makes you feel any better, I didn't have any adverse reactions to any of it and my skin is pretty sensitive. She started out by washing your brows and taking her time to draw in the outline of the microblading area. I think this took the most time out of everything - the whole procedure was about 2-2.5 hours and the drawing part took a little over 1 hour of this time. She spends time measuring and ensuring that everything is even and that you like the shape. Don't worry if it looks a little wide, she fills in the inside so it'll shrink down a bit once it heals. I think her first drawing had a bit too much arch for me so I told her to straighten it a bit to my liking. She did it, no questions asked. Mia was so patient; apparently my brows move when I'm laying down vs when I'm sitting upright and looking forward. She got the arch just the way I liked it. She then puts lidocaine on you, a topical anesthesia. She times this for about 15-30 mins or so before she begins the procedure. The actual microblading is a disposable single use blade with little needles at the end. She literally scrapes open your skin so she can deposit/rub ink into the open wound (like a tattoo). This is different from a tattoo because she draws the individual strokes to look like little hairs - it's very surface level in your skin which amounts to the semi permanent vs tattoos which are permanent because it uses a machine and is deeper into your dermis. Biggest question - did it hurt?! At first it felt like little scratches that were barely anything. You can hear the scratching but didn't feel much. After the topical anesthesia wore off it felt like little stings. She does have droplets of numbing solution in case you can't handle the stinging but it was almost over and it would've effected the skin's ability to take up the ink so I opted to just go through without. Where there's beauty, there's a bit of pain? But in all seriousness, it wasn't bad and nothing you can't handle. I do have a high pain threshold though. As for the healing process.. it was super dark the first week. My friends said it looked like I went crazy with a magic brow pencil. You can see the ink come off on your paper towel or towel when you dab at it. The toughest part was to avoid touching it during this time and showering/washing your face. Just put the ointment on and let it do it's thing. After a week it starts to scab off - nothing crazy, just dark pieces coming off and maybe some dry skin. You're not supposed to pick at it. The pieces usually came off onto my q-tip when I applied the ointment. And not all of the pieces come off - I found that it stopped after a week. And then you're left with nicely shaped brows you don't have to draw to make even.. and they look perfectly natural - just darker! I love them! I have a few places I think aren't as dark as other places and the tail on one side needs more ink - which comes with the touch up in 6-8 weeks! But overall I'm happy and I'm glad I did it! Fingers crossed it lasts the 2 years it's supposed to (or longer)! I'd recommend Mia and MK Brows and I would personally see her again if I had to get it done again! I've been complimented so many times already and it's only just completely healed. MK Brows is located inside Salons by JC behind the Salata on Holcombe. There's a Salon by there that holds a ton of mini suites for people to rent - and there are a lot of different private businesses back there. MK Brows is inside of the suites - very clean single room with one bed. Bright and sterile - just as it should be. Mia is certified for permanent makeup and she stays sterile/clean during the whole process. If you're thinking of microblading, this is the place to go! read more

Since I was gifted with extremely sparse eyebrow hairs (and over plucking from the 90's didn't help), eyebrows are the one thing I never leave home without. When I discovered microblading a couple of years ago, I was intrigued. There weren't many places to get the procedure done, but last year I finally settled on an artist located in the Galleria area. The results were acceptable and I enjoyed the amount of time I saved getting ready in the mornings. I went back for a touch up 3 months later and 5 months after that, my left brow had pretty much faded while my right brow retained a decent amount of pigmentation. I never really loved the shape that my brows turned out to be and they didn't look like the perfectly shaped and shaded brows I associated with microblading. I was completely overdue for a touch up and was browsing Groupon a couple of weeks ago when I stumbled upon Mia's business, MK Brows. I visited her website and knew immediately that I found the perfect artist. I probably browsed the photo galleries and portfolios of every microblading artist currently listed on Groupon. Based on my needs, Mia was the perfect fit for me. Making an appointment was easy, she was very accommodating. Mia was very meticulous when drawing my eyebrow shape prior to microblading. She's a perfectionist who will make millimeter sized adjustments to ensure the brows are shaped appropriately for face size/shape and symmetrical. After she applied the numbing cream and gave it some time to work, she began. I did not feel an ounce of pain. This was by far the least painful microblading session I have experienced. Mia was careful, gentle and thorough and always made sure to ask about my comfort level and offer me more numbing cream if needed. After my brows were done, Mia went over the aftercare procedures in detail and gave me a couple of different ointments/topical creams to apply over the next week or so. She even gave me a gift certificate for a manicure to use at a salon down the road! It was an extremely lovely gesture and I already have plans to see her again in 4 weeks for a touch up and to possibly get eyeliner tattoo done! Pictures honestly do not do her work justice. When I look at my brows up close, I am amazed at the level of intricacy that was applied. Mia's work is s display of true artistry. Got my eyebrows done with Mia at MK Brows around Christmas and they - look - AWESOME. I get complimented on them all the time. From strangers in the grocery store, to co-workers and friends. Before, my eyebrows were really thin from years of over-plucking (I blame the 90's)...and since thick brows have been the style for quite awhile AND I had to get some business headshots done, I knew I had to do something. If you want thick full brows at a good price, go see Mia! She will take the time to measure everything on your face so your brows will be the perfect proportion to your face. She shows you what she's doing periodically so you can confirm that you like the way you look. Her office is REALLY clean and super cute so you'll be comfortable the entire time. She is very gentle with you and makes sure you're not experiencing any pain during the process. Now the thing to remember is that afterwards, your eyebrows will be too dark. That's just part of the process so try not to freak out TOO much. They will fade, I promise! (Took about 10 days to see the REAL results).
