The banchan and side dishes variety is so big here, it is quite impressive. They also have a ramen station. Their side dishes included japchae, galbijim, chicken cutlet, chicken wings and even cold noodles. However, I would've enjoyed them more if they were fresher and hotter. I found myself biting the chicken cutlet and wings hard. What disappointed me the most is the quality of the meat. Even for the brisket, the quality just was not there. The beef belly was too thick and had too much fat than the usual beef belly. The bulgogi was hard after it was cooked. There was plenty of seating and it felt open. The staff was happy to help with changing grill, clearing dishes and water. However, everything else including meat is self-serve. The price is $29 for lunch on a weekend, which is a good price but would not be returning unless I'm there for the banchan and cold noodle. Parking was free in a strip mall and was not too busy on a sunday. The only reason why I think this is close to 5 stars is that they give a dessert if you leave a review. (I did not) read more

MJD is largely the same as the old Cheong Wun it replaces: They can slap a bunch of soju posters and some lightboxes with pictures of meat up on the newly replastered walls, but Cheong Wun is still Cheong Wun ― except with an incongruous little disco ball by the banchan bar now. The meat cuts on the bar are still the same, which is good. If those huge, thick slabs of samgyeopsal (pork belly) had gone away, I'd have been very mad. I rarely ventured over to the higher priced section around the corner, now labeled the "Gold" bar; there's more than enough on the "Silver" bar to satisfy me. There's now a huge shelving rack displaying all sorts of ramyeon for people who are stupid enough to fill up on cheap noodles instead of meat. But again, it's mostly the same. Staff really only come by to check on the flame, not to tend the meat. I don't mind this, but some diners might want servers to help more. If one hated Cheong Wun, then MJD probably won't be for you. Me personally, I loved the old divey Cheong Wun, so I'm glad it hasn't changed too much. read more

Just opened in a little strip mall, old-school Korean vibe, friendly staff, and seriously good food. Parking can be a little rough during peak hours, but once you're inside, game on! The price is pretty reasonable, especially with the salad bar, Korean banchan, and hot bar loaded with legit Korean dishes. The fried squid was fresh, chicken was on point, and those pork cutlets? Outstanding. And the ribeye on a grill ... OMG, to die for! Bonus points for the frosted beer mugs...ice-cold beer with that frozen rim is the perfect match for KBBQ. Had a great time at AYCE MJD Korean BBQ. There's two choices of ACYE, Silver or Gold. The amount and variety of meat was dependent on whether you chose Silver or Gold. We went with the Gold which included the LA galbi and ribeye steak. The meat was of good quality and tender. Note, the galbi were thick and HUGE! Thoroughly enjoyed gnawing the meat off the rib. There's a salad bar that includes cold soba noodles, fruit, mac salad, a variety of side dishes. Additionally, there's a make your own ramen station and three other soups available. The sides were good. The only thing I didn't care for was the cucumbers, it had no flavor. They have two different soups and curry. The spicy kimchi soup was the best. The only meats we tried was spicy pork belly, beef belly and something that started with a "J". All were great. I love that they gave you real cups for water and not the tiny ones more kbbq places gives. My only complaint was the music was too loud at times. And parking may be an issue. MJD is now officially our new favorite AYCE Korean bbq. We are so glad this place just opened. Not only is it a walkable distance from where we live (we can partake in as much soju and makgeolli as our little hearts desire without any repercussions, except for a possible hangover), but it's simply the best AYCE for price point. My usual gripe with most kbbq AYCE is that I get fatigued from eating too much meat, not even necessarily that I'm full. At MJD, their buffet includes an assortment of dishes that aren't all bbq meat. Their banchan selection is top tier - everything is made in house, and their kimchi is particularly flavorful. Their buffet offerings include raw marinated crab (which is arguably better than even that highly hyped place in ktown that literally specializes in marinated crab), chicken katsu, Korean fried chicken, fried tofu, fried squid, Korean beef tartare, japchae, and even a ramen bar. I almost even forgot to mention the excellent soup bar - which included soybean soup, kimchi soup, and pumpkin porridge. This place was so fun to eat at, and I loved their high energy K-pop playlist as well as comfortable booth seating. I visited with my partner, but would love to bring a group of friends next time as the seating is very conducive for group visits (large, comfortable, booth seating that accommodates many diners). While we visited during lunch, we were informed that they have a pojangmacha room, which is a nod to Korean street drinking culture. Apparently they operate in the evening only, and serve a different menu (not AYCE). Would love to return just to check out this part of the restaurant. Lastly, when most restaurants in ktown charge for parking, I really appreciated the free parking right outside the restaurant - honestly a rarity in ktown. Service was also exceptional for AYCE kbbq, which I noticed another reviewer also noticed was rare of AYCE spots. Servers were friendly and attentive. We will most certainly be back again! read more

Even without the promo their prices are competitive and it's nice they run lunch specials. I'm used to Korean BBQ being easily $50 a person. I've been to some more expensive Korean BBQs and ones that looked nicer, but MJD offers great quality at an affordable price. Also, food is self serve from a bar which is cool.
