The most common complaint of Miznon Australia is that their staff isn't the greatest. That's 100% true. When I was here they didn't do anything especially egregious, but they also didn't seem to care about getting people served quickly. The absolute cacophony they have set up doesn't help either. The music is cranked up to 11 and it felt like the speakers were located right next to where orders are placed. Having to shout your order to someone that doesn't seem to care is frustrating, to say the least. Also, we arrived at lunchtime on a weekday, which is probably why we didn't get to see any "SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS". Despite having to deal with poor service, the food is darn good. The Pita with a Bone was the most tender and delicious lamb I've had in a long time. The bone just needed a slight tug and slipped right out. I loved every bite of that pita. They almost have the trifecta for what makes a bad restaurant: Insouciant staff? Check. Obnoxiously loud music? Check. Terrible food? Not... check... If it weren't for the food being so good, I wouldn't ever think of coming back to Miznon. They got almost everything wrong, but the one thing they got right, they got really right. read more

The husband and I were trying to find a place to eat dinner that didn't have a crazy wait (precovid). We came across Miznon and decided to give it a shot. It was super busy, but we scored seats at their bar that faces the kitchen (which was awesome, I loved watching them cook!). The food here was very high quality and delicious. We had to try the bag of golden meat and the cauliflower and both were delicious. I'd recommend either to anyone really. Prices were standard. Definitely support this business! read more

Chicken schnitzel: huge, crunchy outside, perfect inside, with great beet relish and flavorful mustard to shmear on it. I kept half for lunch the next day. Partner devoured his lamb shwarma. I didn't love having to sit outside to eat, but that is a testament to how hoppin' the restaurant is. read more

No ! Don't ! Epic mistake !!!! Went here for dinner tonight and I am sorry I did. It's really expensive because you have to order at the counter , pay at the counter , carry your own silverware to your dirty table ..... get your own condiments and cold pita bread slices and so on. The staff is super laid back ( not in a good friendly way ). Zero service , they were too busy having shots of vodka and tequila ( no joke ) to pay attention to us. We had the green beans on a sac , the roasted cauliflower and the steak pita ; which was super expensive at 22. A bangin' restaurant serving up Mediterranean classics. Expect to eat your pita and hummus while listening to Gas Pedal. Grab the bread yourself downstairs - self service! Most of the menu tilts toward small sharing plates. For four, we had the Cauliflower steak, Chicken Shnitzel, Swordfish filet, Sabich, and Baby Octopus and chips - $110. OMG this place is happening. It's loud. It's noisy. It appears crowded. It's insane. But it's bloody good. Hardware Lane is noisy and you get accosted by restaurant waitstaff trying to lure you in with their menus and there's live music and people noise. But then you walk into Miznon and it's even noisier. It's got really loud music. Self-service for cutlery, water and yoghurt, hommus, spring onion/herbs in oil and some large pickled radish. If you sit upstairs, you pay first. Otherwise, you get served at the bar by the friendly waitstaff. You're asked to think of a funky name for yourself & your dining companion(s). On this warm Wednesday night, we were catdog (from Nickelodeon). We were offered free honey flavoured tea with some visible tea leaves in it. Last time, my dining companion said he had had mint flavoured tea. The menu has lots of veggie options. My dining companion explained that this is because in Israel, there are some days where they are only allowed to eat veggies and fish. Hence, vegetarian food is so popular. Some of the options come with pita bread and some don't. You don't really know which ones so best to ask. They have this falafel making machine which also presses it into nice round patties. This machine is right on the bar itself where the bartender is using this bar space to pour lots and lots of shots. Everyone sitting at the bar has a choice of arakh(?), campari and whiskey shots and you get to have it with bar staff and the rest of the restaurant patrons. SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS! We ordered the massive cauliflower head. Make sure you eat the leaves too. It's delicious in the beginning but sort of bland tasting after. Maybe cover it in the freely provided hommus or yoghurt or drizzle it with salt and pepper. We got the lamb pita. It's small if you're looking for a large meal but omg so delicious. The lamb falls off the bone. Its subtly flavoured with yoghurt and some pickled veggies. OMG the most delicious pita wrap I've EVER EVER had. My friend got the chickpeas pita (it came without pita bread). It was perhaps 2 tablespoons of chickpeas with some boiled egg(not even a whole egg). Very tasty but perhaps not enough. But again you can have it with unlimited free pita bread. Great vibe. Such friendly staff. and delicious food. Probably best not for a first date as you can barely hear the other person but definitely a place for fun! read more

really excited to try this place and i will go back because i want the cauliflower. but i ordered the falafel pita. now, i am one to put extra salt on EVERYTHING ... but this was absolutely way too salty. the whole thing tasted like salt. i didn't enjoy it whatsoever. i have had amazing falafel pita sandwiches in my international experiences and this is well well well below the bar. salt sand **update i returned here and it was a let down again. i wasn't served for about 47292726 years and then i ordered and my order was given to the wrong table. fair enough mistakes happen but they then GAVE ME pita sandwich that had been sitting in front of another couple for at least 10 minutes. it was cold and the pita was completely destroyed from the moisture. fuck this place read more

I try to go here at least once every time I visit Melbourne. The staff are awesome. I have tried nearly everything and it's all great - even the things I didn't expect to like. I haven't had a bad meal, which is amazing considering how many times I have been here. My favourites are the bag of golden meat, the baby cauliflower and bag of greens. read more

Super friendly service. We had to visit twice when we visited Melbourne because the food was so good, and the restaurant so easy and great for us and our 15 month old daughter. At some point during your meal, someone will come around and give complimentary fruit or drinks. The beans cooked many different ways was delicious, as were the garbanzo beans with egg and tahini. It's a 4.5 for me. I love this place!! I see what the fuss is about. This is a casual setting on the ever wonderful Hardware Lane. An ideal setting for laid back eating. Really interesting food here. Unusual, innovative and just so so tasty. I came for lunch with friends and came early right on 12pm as I wanted to make absolutely sure we got a spot. We went for pitas only on this first visit. I'll get share plates over the line on the next occasion. Collectively we had a Tunisian, the minute steak and the Wagyu burger pitas. Mine was the Tunisian and it was gorgeous. The pita was just so soft and delectable. Everything about the filling worked wonderfully - cured tuna, potato, aoli, pickles and onion - and I had considerable anxiety when finishing it. You know, that sense of deep loss when lovely food is disappearing. My companions loved their pitas too. Lots of mmms and nods. These are hard judges and they were very happy with their offerings. I wasn't quite on my game with photos today as this was a business meeting of sorts and I didn't want to look too much like a goose snapping away (well, no more of a goose than I usually do). I'll do more of that next time. We all really enjoyed the experience. Great little place, really good unusual and delicious food and very affordable prices. Delicious, outstanding taste sensations. Fabulous staff BUT tiny portions especially for the price, and don't even think of taking away, food doesn't lend itself to takeout and only paper to wrap it in, so makes a huge mess. I tried the lamb pita without the chilli - it was the most delicious tender, moist taste sensation and would definitely go back for it, but at $17 for a not too big half pita, would not come back that often. If you were hungry you would need 2, and as delicious as the pita was, way too many carbs, especially with the lamb being so good, better to just have it on the plate and ditch the pita. Also tried the falafel burger - really amazing, in every sense, the falafel itself, which was shaped like a burger, and they cook the tomato slice they put inside, which is a lovely surprise. The pickles were delicious too BUT again, stingy with the falafel - they are usually balls, so if you are going to shape it like a burger and make it as delicious as you do, why such a thin burger ? Why only a small half pita ? Needs to be at least double the thickness, and do it exactly the same way. Disappointing there was no hummus. Tahini was good, but a little thin in consistency. Loved the 7 beans and dressing, BUT none of the beans were topped and tailed, the first thing my mother taught me when cooking beans, cut off the ends ! so yes, delicious, but stringy and end bits you had to spit out or find a place to drop. Ordered a cauliflower to take home, but it was just wrapped in paper, and at $13 was a bit bummed to read that others had got it for free, but did not get charged for the beans - yes to the cauliflower but do not try to take it home. Also ordered the potato to go, but again, did not know they squash it flat as a pancake. It was delicious, but again, they just put it in paper, not even aluminium paper, so was a huge mess. The staff were lovely and lots of fun and also seemed to really enjoy the food they serve you. So yes, I will come back, despite the awful parking and having to go all the way into the city but now I know what to expect, it will be to prove to others how really delicious the food is, and let them know it is a snack and not a meal place. Hope they do well and move to a better location and increase the portions they serve. So overall, the food really was delicious and worth coming back for, but I believe this is the first Jewish food place that I have ever been to that under rather than over feeds you ! read more

I've eaten here a few times and I love the place. It's very welcoming, with a great energy (and the noise to go with it). If you like it a little quieter you can probably get a table in the laneway out front. Last time we were there they took great care of us and showed my wife and I a really lovely time. As my wife looked over the counter at the cooks to see how they were preparing the food, the owner made up a little something for her to try (very thoughtful). When we sat at the bar to watch a different cook, she made up a little salad bowl for us to try (was delicious!). Then the waitress gave us a shot of something on the house (we asked for her recommendation - again, delicious!). Later they even made us up one of the dessert pita with nutella and banana (sooo good!). All of this was unprompted and gratis. As the waitress put it, if you guys have a good time you'll come back (and we will!) Yes, sometime the service can be patchy, as you have to kind of put yourself forward to pierce the hive of activity. But we've never felt anything but very welcomed and valued. Was even there one night and they held a nice Shabbat ceremony later in the evening where they invited the customers in for wine and food. So - you get delicious food (the Red Sea pita special is my favourite, ratatouille is also very good, trout not so much), and a different kind of dining and cultural experience that you can make the most out of if you get involved (but which may not be everyone's cup of tea). read more
