First time visiting this place, with my family, to sit & dine. Small interior with about 6 tables. I mainly wanted to try this place for their gimbap (Korean rice roll) because there is nowhere I can find that sells this near me. While there, I also ordered their vegetable noodle dish. It took about 40 minutes to get all of our orders out (4 people). It did have a sign that said 'cooked to order', which is great, but to wait that long, I was disappointed that side dishes were not included (like how other Korean restaurants normally have) & the portion size didn't seem enough. What I ordered had very good flavor, but the gimbap was TINY and the vegetable noodle dish came with rice (which I was pretty glad about) but there seemed to be more rice than the noodles itself.. Prices were good for what you were being given. Overall, this was an aye ok Korean takeout spot. I'm so disappointed! My first try after hearing wonderful things and I open my box of food to see rice thrown in with scraps of beef. I thought this was made to order but all I heard was the microwave. Then this dry rice and pieces of beef?! I spent $15 and this is what I got? How unprofessional to even offer this to a customer! The amount of food you get is minimal. It was good but I was still hungry. Either charge more for more food or have sizes like small medium or large and charge accordingly. I had the bulgogi beef and rice. It barely covered the bottom of the carryout tray. I think I paid around $13. read more

This is hands down the best place to eat in Burlington. I absolutely love it, its run by very sweet people and the food is REAL. It's not made in bulk and frozen or made in the morning to be sold all day, you order and the sweet man goes to the back and makes it practically from scratch. My absolute favorite is the regular udon and the fried dumplings. I debate getting a second udon to save for later every time I come here. The broth is UNREAL. What a pleasant surprise, discovering this cozy restaurant! A classic mom and pop eatery with the nicest couple running it. We were all new to Korean food and used the photos on their wall to help us decide what to get. Filling, light NOT heavy fare, meticously prepared seems to be the norm here. As we approached the restaurant there was signs starting They are only offering take out orders and you wait in your car they will bring it right to you. We were greeted by a a cute older couple and the husband took our order. The menu was short and simple I ordered the tofu bibimbap I asked for fried egg. My son got their spicy chicken bowl. We were told 15 mins and he would bring to our car. We sat in the car for five minutes. We couldn't resist the the donut shop next door that was just taunting us with it's sweet yummy aroma. We had to rush back to the work site but my kid's food looked and smelled yummy as I was driving back. He made many sounds with was an indicator that it was yummy and spicy. I had 5 minutes before I had to go back into the void and I opened my plate and it was soo pretty and colorful. I was having an egg and rice craving. My first bite was heaven. If you have a love for authentic Korean food like I do, you MUST check out Mixed Rice in Burlington, NC. The atmosphere is a little dated but don't let it fool you. The food is right up there with some of the best Korean cuisine I've ever eaten. I had to try several of my favorites on the menu which included beef bulgogi on a bed of white rice, japchae (glass noodles with beef bulgogi and vegetables in a savory sauce), duk bok Ki (rice dumplings with a spicy, slightly sweet kochujang sauce), Napa cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi. There is nothing negative I can say about anything I tried. Mixed Rice will be my new regular spot. Don't pass it up if you're ever in Burlington!! read more

Really confused about the high ratings here. What I got, and I don't say this lightly or ever before... What I got was akin to looking like dog food. Harsh maybe, but I can't think of anything else. I order their steak and rice bowl and their Korean style fried mushrooms for lunch. I was told they did not have mushrooms. So I just got the steak and rice. Since I love Korean food, I imagined succulent steak, glistening and filled with flavor and zest over sticky moist rice. What I got was dried out crumbles of meat, little flavor and hard sticky rice. The little cup of sweet sauce that was included was transparent but flavorful and the saving grace. Overall it looked bad, the sauce helped a whole lot. I might go back and order something else based on these great reviews just to see if I missed something. But who knows, curiosity killed the cat, it may even kill this yelper. Really enjoyed grabbing lunch here the other day! It is clear that this place is serving authentic, fresh bibimbap and it was delicious. If you are looking for a great lunch option for something a little different, this is the spot. The ladies running the place were friendly and we felt welcomed the moment we walked in. The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is that the menu seems a tad limited and the drink option consisted of a can of soda (not a bad thing but I think they could make a few small tweaks to really make it 100%). First time visiting and I decided to try it out because of the high ratings. I am familiar with the Korean dishes bulgogi and kimchi so that's what I ordered! I called and the phone was answered rather quickly. The lady asked what I wanted and that's it. When I walked in she asked if I ordered the bulgogi and kimchi. The food is great and taste very authentic. There will be a price change effective 10/23 and I think it would be worth it. The meal comes with your choice of can soda and an egg roll. My two friends ordered bimbimbap dishes and were also unimpressed - simply bland food. If you go, get the steamed dumplings and then go a few doors over to Dr. Milk for milk tea and/or rolled ice cream. read more

Unfortunately we were universally disappointed by our meals here after reading the excellent reviews. Our experience with BiBimBop has always included a fried egg and it was frustratingly absent. The other vegetable elements were fresh and satisfying as well as the rice, but the meat was sickly sweet, the sugar had caramelized around the beef making it a chewy candy-like consistency. The bulgogi needed more vegetables. If you like Asian fast food you will like these meals. This is not necessarily meant to be a sharp criticism, only that one should order from here knowing what to expect. read more

Look I'm going to give this place credit that the food WAS good. The reason for the two stars is because they are completely ripping you off with these prices and the food portions. 8$ for a rice roll that only has 3 ingredients inside and is smaller than sushi is ridiculous. Glass noodles that are on top of a bed of rice for 10$. I had more rice than noodles. Especially when I have a sister in law from South Korea and I know that kimbap is suppose to be HUGE and Japchae isn't typically served on a bed of rice. Just be warned. Mixed RIce is a small take-out place in the former WIng Zone spot. It has 3-4 tables to eat in though. This place specializes in bibimbap, aka mixed rice, and fried seafood. There is also a section with stir fries over rice. I went with the spicy chicken stir-fry ($7.99) which was white meat and onions in a pretty hot Korean chili sauce topped with green onion slivers. I really liked it, as most 'hot' dishes are never hot enough for me. I also mixed in some of their house-made hot sauce which seemed to be a mix of brown plum sauce, chili paste and a bit of soy, again pretty hot and very tasty. The ratio of meat to rice was pretty fair for the price. The meal came with a very good egg roll that was very crisp, light and stuffed with cabbage that still has some bite to it instead of being mushy. A small side salad of lettuce, tomato, cuke and shaved carrot was included with their house-made ranch. I know, i don't get it and neither did the person dining in last night who wanted something besides ranch, but it was a good version of ranch really. Dessert was even included in the form of a Choco-pie, which was a small version of what we Southerners call a Moon Pie. Basically thin, crumbly cookie filled with marshmallow and then the whole thing is covered in chocolate. For $8, getting egg roll, salad, entree and dessert is pretty decent. Service was fast and the place seems to be run by an older husband and wife team. She was very polite, eager to help, explain dishes and was very proud of making everything down to the sauces in house. I nearly say 4 stars but the tasty food and the bargain price for my combo dinner says go all in. The food is the draw and is delicious. Sweet chicken combo with egg roll and a canned drink, including tax, came to under 9 bucks. Winner winner Korean dinner. If grandma was Korean she would've cooked like this. Thanks to you Yelpers as I'd never have stopped here without you. After a few visits I can just comment that if there's more than about 6 people in there you may have a longer wait than you want.
