Visiting Jekyll, I was in need of extra baking dishes for Xmas dinner. Every year our rentals never have enough and it's not worth transporting fragile bakeware 800mi to cook one meal. My quest turned into a curiosity to just seek out each thrift store to review so I know where to go next time this happens at my rental house. The associates at Hello Goodbuy were not friendly, neither greeting us when we walked in, nor when I asked if they knew if they had any bundt pans. Everyone had a southern accent and was white. We felt seen as outsiders, as happens in certain places around here. Intended or not, they came off like that kind of place. There were a lot of clothes and other knick-knacks, and some furniture. It was organized but felt very cramped and things were outdated in a worn 5-10yo way, not a cool vintage way. I left after a look at a small section that had anything resembling bakeware. Not much for kitchen, and nothing I needed. I always appreciate the mission of a thrift store, but this one felt so fundamentally (unwelcoming) different from ones like Gather or Goodwill where I saw all kinds of people shopping, and I felt very uncomfortable.

Staff had made a big effort to organize things but none of the customers were trying to keep it that way. It was an effort to look through a lot of half-functional stuff to find useful items, though they were departmented, which helps. I did not look long at any department other than bakeware but this was a medium-sized store with a decent volume of items. Visiting Jekyll, I was in need of extra baking dishes for Xmas dinner. Every year our rentals never have enough. I did find a glass bread baking dish, which wasn't exactly what I needed but close enough. Shelves looked sparse but it could've been the time of year. There were a lot of people there shopping. I had never been to a thrift store so close to Christmas so idk if it was for gifts or something like last-minute spare housewares like I needed? I do need to add that no one was available on the floor for assistance and employees were doubled up at registers just to talk to each other. I felt like I was interrupting the ladies to pay.

There are tons of food and beverage places as well as shops like a florist, olive oil place and clothing. My favorite amongst all of them is the indie bookstore. It's a very busy and while there is a lot of parking, it can get full on holidays and during the summer. You may wish to plan your trip accordingly. There is a website but it's minimal and has not been updated recently. Do plan to visit Red Fern on your next visit to SSI. You'll be glad you did whether it's for a stroll, shopping and/or dining.
