    Beef cheddar pie

The place is cosy, I love the fresh bake bread. Clam chowder is not thick and creamy as I expected but cranberry walnut bread is good. Beef pie not bad, it is the salad dressing that add point.

Creme brûlée completely not set, all liquid underneath.

I had such a mediocre first time experience at Mix Bakery that I felt obliged to create an account and write a review. I bought a groupon for $20 worth of cakes AND desserts. When I walk in, I take a few minutes to decide amongst all the savouries and sweets. I'm about to order, and the lady tells me I'm only able to choose the cakes from one row, because the groupon says Cakes. There are only full sized cakes in that one row, and three flavours to choose from so I tell her the groupon says "AND desserts" so cookies and brownies should count too? I have to tell her twice to double check so she goes in the kitchen to confirm and comes back telling me I can in fact order desserts, blaming Groupon for the mistake when it so clearly states on the voucher "cakes AND desserts". I pick a slice of chocolate oblivion cake, a slice of carrot cake, a peppermint chocolate cake, a chocolate chunk cookie, a pear pie, and a creme brûlée. She tells me I can't order the carrot cake because it's not sliced. This is the first time a bakery has ever denied me of a slice of cake because "it's not sliced". Soooo one needs to buy the entire cake. Right. How are you going to keep customers if you don't let them try a smaller size and see if they like it before they buy the entire 8 inch? Anyways, when she picks up the slice of chocolate cake to put in the box, she manages to drop it sideways, deconstructing it. The customer waiting behind me sees this and walks right out the door (I don't blame her). I get home and try a bite of all the goodies. I like the chocolate peppermint cake and the pear pie but the rest were just meh. To my horror, the creme brûlée was RAW inside. Once you uncover the brittle at top, it's all liquid underneath, ugh, SERIOUSLY? (Check out the photo) Creme brûlée is made out of mostly egg yolks! People can get sick from this. $4.25 wasted. Based on my experience, I will not be back.

My good friends mum introduced me to this place years ago and I have been a fan ever since. Their hip, urban, approach to artisan bread and goodies is why I am a fan. These guys also cater to a ton of local shops and grocers like IGA, so don't fear if you cant make it up to Point Grey then you may be able to find them in your neighbourhood. 5 stars - the artisan bread crisps. These little morsels of heaven blow Raincoast crisps out of the water. grab yourself a bag.. or two b/c they go fast and head over to the cheese shop and pick yourself up some Boursin and your off to the races. Zoey's super grain I swear has every possible grain in there, and is jam packed full of grainy goodness. *+*+*thanx Rhoda!!!

There were some available seats when I was there at around 1:30pm. There was no line as the peak lunch hour had passed. They made my sandwich immediately so I didn't have to wait at all.

Italiana was so good. Double Prosciutto!! Truffle flavor was strong and paired with stracciatella cheese. What a great combination! And Arugula was very fresh. Foccacia was very crispy outside and soft inside. One of the best sandwich. I will order again. Monte cristo was also good. Grilled bread was very crispy and nicely pressed. Provolone and prosciutto cotto combination was great, too. Sundried totamto provided great accent. I will order this one again, too. Overall, it was a great sandwich shop. Highly recommend.

I stopped by for lunch the other day, but they also sell loaves of bread and some Italian groceries in addition to sandwiches and various pastries. I had their Veggie Mix Sandwich, Berry Coffee Cake, and an iced almond milk Latte. The sandwich was really good! The roll it was served on was very special, it had a slightly buttery and flaky crust almost like a croissant. There was a variety of veggies like peppers, broccoli, onions, and greens inside, plus cheese and I think a little mayo, and when heated up it all melded together delightfully. The only catch was that it took a while to heat up (which the worker who helped me warned me about), which was okay with me, but makes this place not ideal for a quick bite unless you want your sandwich cold. It takes so long because they use a proper oven, not a grill or microwave. The coffee cake was delicious also! Sometimes coffee cakes can be too dry and crumbly for my taste but this one was nice and moist (sorry), and had just enough structure. The mixed berries added a nice pop of flavour. The worker said she was going to heat this up for me too, but it was room temperature by the time I got to eating it which was honestly probably just as well. The latte wasn't bad but somehow felt a little heavy? This may have just had to due with it being not quite cold enough - by the time I finished it, it had gotten down to refreshingly cool, but this was when all the ice had melted. I think it could have used a bit more ice to start. Everything is priced fairly. The woman working was very sweet and helpful, and patient while I was making up my mind. They don't have seating indoor but have two small tables outside. The tables are tucked into a bit of an alcove so you don't feel like you're in the way of the sidewalk with people walking on top of you.

I had to go up to the counter before she was willing to sit me down. I ordered the sizzling plate during happy hour that came with the side of meat. She had her phone in one hand and took my order. When my order came, it was beef and chicken. I called her over and told her that I ordered chicken and pork and not chicken and beef. The chicken was cooked so dry but what was worse was the noodle was not even cooked properly. I called her over the second and that was when she finally hung up her phone call. I told her the vermicelli was not even cooked properly and showed her a piece of the color and she tried to tell me that it is like that. I told her that I had it at other places and never had I ever had the vermicelli where pieces of it were hard (please see photo). She said she will make me another and I told her no need. We found this as our initial destination had an absurd wait, and we left satisfied and pleasantly surprised. I saw pics online of what appeared to be large, juicy, and crispy fried chicken sandwiches sporting local hot sauces as the secret ingredients, and that's what brought us in. We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with the Hot Duck chili crisp on it. Upon the bartenders rec we opted for the extra hot, which was a good call because it didn't really pack a punch to us chili heads, but had great flavor. The chicken was juicy and crispy, and the brioche bun was so soft and fluffy. All around a good sandwich, but we found it strange that they only offered it with chips, and no upgrade to fries, which were available as an add on order. As we ate our sandwich and waffle fries we realized there was no smell of oil in the air or sounds of a fryer, which had us scratching our heads. We looked for a hood too and noticed none. Eventually we realized that everything here is commercially air fried, which was both fun to learn and somewhat surprising. If this place had a fryer, it would be SO much better, but considering this limitation, it was solid. The sauce selection was huge too. I loved that you could taste them all and that they offered some amazing deals too. We found a few that warranted us checking a bag on the way back so we could enjoy them on the other side of the border, and I'm stoked they offer online ordering and shipping so we can get some more when they run out. All in all a solid experience. Staff was so friendly and accommodating. As a hot sauce store, this is a 5 star experience, as a restaurant, also good but just have the right expectations.

I don't know how they do it but it's incredibly affordable and the quality of food is impressive! I got their Veggies on Fire (Cheddar, lettuce, sprouts, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, pickles, red onion, banana peppers, Dijon, spicy mayo - Hot Sauce: Dawson's Shawarma). This was $8. Plus I added waffle fries, which I don't even care for. But these were heavily seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sandwiches come with chips but you can't miss the fries. You can choose which breads you want and I choose sourdough. Highly recommend that you toast that bread. The sandwich was huge and staked with so many veggies. The hot sauce was very mild but paired so well. The service was phenomenal! Above and beyond and so friendly. The place gets quite busy, understandable, and they are still so patient and friendly. I can't wait to try their extensive menu and order their veggie friendly menu options! And, obvy, their 1000 hot sauces!
