Lots to love here: an abundant selection of delicious pastries and lunches, friendly staff that seem genuinely happy to be there, and a warm, rustic environment. It feels very at home in this neighbourhood. I've been a few times and I love the food here; the baking tastes homemade in the best way. So far I have tried the veggie galette, the sour cream coffee cake, and morning glory muffin. They also did a great job on my London fog! There is a big selection of sweet and savoury baked goods, including single serve things like muffins, scones, cookies, and pie slices, and multi-serving items like whole loaves of bread, bags of small cookies, and I think whole cakes/pies. This is exactly the kind of café/bakery that I love to support: small, local, fresh breads and pastries and cookies, great sandwiches and soups....The kind of homey hippie-esque place that I used to go to as a McGill student in Montreal in the early 80's. Small, but clean and cute, and a lot of local folks go there regularly to get their coffees or light lunches. Went there today with a friend who's been coming here for many years. She had a bowl of the broccoli mushroom soup (it looked amazing), a humongous caffe latte in a bowl-mug, and a pecan tart (I had a bite of this tart and despite being gluten-free, it was bloody amazing!). I ordered the "gobble" sandwich, grilled. It's a turkey sandwich with cheese, cranberries, almonds and other good stuff. I ate half and took half home (it was huge). And boy was it good! The reason I'm not giving a sold 5 stars? When I checked in here on Yelp (as I am wont to do!), a coupon popped up, good for a $10 soup and sandwich combo here. Bonus, right? (I love when these coupons occasionally pop up!). Unfortunately, the cashier girl had never seen this before, and she got the owner, and he was nice enough but said he never saw this before, he doesn't do business or advertise with Yelp, and perhaps this is an old coupon but he can't honor it. Look I don't often write reviews but I think it's important people have facts so they can see balance In reviews. I've been in this place 3 plus time. Usually you wait in a line. I get it if the products exceptional. Their products are ok, not 5 star just ok. What I don't appreciate at this place is the waiting, waiting and waiting. Today i walk in and there's one customer ahead of me. Great it's gonna be fast. Ahhhh, no, it isn't. Someone ordering a latte and day old seems to get a lot of attention. Lots of banter back and forth between the guy on the till/coffee machine. Ok, great to know your customer, but....there's people waiting. After 10 minutes we ask....can we just buy some bread. To which I get some attitude....".you can wait".....while he's now dumping coffee into the expresso machine. Ahhhh, I've been waiting...10 plus minutes. Look a wait isn't pleasant, but when you layer on a bad attitude with average product I'm done. Never going back. I'm certain no one is gonna care about me. Nice bakery with good selection of pastries, breads, and warm food/ entrees, barista was very nice :) Manager/owner, however, was publicly patronizing to said barista, urging them to keep turning the music up and when barista kindly replied that people had actually been complaining about the volume (it was, in fact, quite loud) he then replied to ignore them, pretend to turn it down and otherwise keep it at this volume. Very gross behavior to witness, and off putting enough that we're not itching to return. read more

Best place for sandwiches hands down, their soup turkey barely was amazing along with the turkey sandwich. Staff was super friendly and pricing was decent for a big sandwich . I had such a mediocre first time experience at Mix Bakery that I felt obliged to create an account and write a review. I bought a groupon for $20 worth of cakes AND desserts. When I walk in, I take a few minutes to decide amongst all the savouries and sweets. I'm about to order, and the lady tells me I'm only able to choose the cakes from one row, because the groupon says Cakes. There are only full sized cakes in that one row, and three flavours to choose from so I tell her the groupon says "AND desserts" so cookies and brownies should count too? I have to tell her twice to double check so she goes in the kitchen to confirm and comes back telling me I can in fact order desserts, blaming Groupon for the mistake when it so clearly states on the voucher "cakes AND desserts". I pick a slice of chocolate oblivion cake, a slice of carrot cake, a peppermint chocolate cake, a chocolate chunk cookie, a pear pie, and a creme brûlée. She tells me I can't order the carrot cake because it's not sliced. This is the first time a bakery has ever denied me of a slice of cake because "it's not sliced". Soooo one needs to buy the entire cake. Right. How are you going to keep customers if you don't let them try a smaller size and see if they like it before they buy the entire 8 inch? Anyways, when she picks up the slice of chocolate cake to put in the box, she manages to drop it sideways, deconstructing it. The customer waiting behind me sees this and walks right out the door (I don't blame her). I get home and try a bite of all the goodies. I like the chocolate peppermint cake and the pear pie but the rest were just meh. To my horror, the creme brûlée was RAW inside. Once you uncover the brittle at top, it's all liquid underneath, ugh, SERIOUSLY? (Check out the photo) Creme brûlée is made out of mostly egg yolks! People can get sick from this. $4.25 wasted. My good friends mum introduced me to this place years ago and I have been a fan ever since. Their hip, urban, approach to artisan bread and goodies is why I am a fan. These guys also cater to a ton of local shops and grocers like IGA, so don't fear if you cant make it up to Point Grey then you may be able to find them in your neighbourhood. 5 stars - the artisan bread crisps. These little morsels of heaven blow Raincoast crisps out of the water. grab yourself a bag.. or two b/c they go fast and head over to the cheese shop and pick yourself up some Boursin and your off to the races. This place is great for lunch! It's perfect for a quick off-campus lunch (if you're from UBC). Such tasty innovative sandwiches. We had the chimayo chicken sandwich grilled to perfection (not to hard, not to soft) and it was delicious! I don't remember what all was in it but it was very flavourful and tasty. I remember it had, chicken, avocado, cilantro mayo, and it was spicy too... We also had a herb chicken salad as well. That was okay. The dressing was really delicious, but the greens were just green leaf or iceberg lettuces. I expected some mesclun baby greens thrown in there too. But over all it was delicious. They have a variety of bread loaves that I am inclined to purchase one of these days. As well as some delicious looking desserts (A SUNFLOWER CUPCAKE!!!). They sell jams and preserves and give samples of them. Very yummy. They also sell dog treats!! I picked some up for the boss's dog to get on her good side (the dog's not the boss :-P ). Totally recommend a visit here, esp. if you're in the neighbourhood for a good lunch! My only frown for them is that they don't have wifi. :( read more

Very tasty creme brulee, that's my weakness. Nice n eggy smooth, and can't beat the sugary crunchy top. Probably not Joe Fortes quality, but for a cafe, it hits the sweet spot. Well, more of a bakery than cafe. Client had some leftover white chocolate hazelnut creme cake, also delicious. One great thing about this place is you know to come here on a cold day like today--it's boiling hot in here, either they're still baking at this odd hour 3:45pm or they're crank up the heat, Sucks they don't have wifi. read more

I stumbled upon this little cafe/bakery while strolling the streets of Point Grey on the weekend. Ideal location ..... it smelt tasty..... so in I went! Well, on a second thought, I kind of wish I went to the place next door instead. It lacks any sense of coziness: tall wired racks, food displayed poorly in the show-case, the lady working lacked any real compassion to serve the customers and just seemed to be going through the motions. The Americano tasted liked slightly coloured water.... not enough caffeine or taste to give you that kick-start jolt I was hoping for. On a plus side: the GLUTEN FREE COOKIE was DELICIOUS! I really truly want to like this place, and have given it 3 solid chances. Each and every time I have been disappointed. Pros: -They have bread -It smells good inside -atmosphere is nice Cons: -Staff know nothing of what they sell. I asked if there was egg in the bread, and got a no, went home, and my guest had violent diarrhea... because guess what, it had egg. -Staff are very slow and incredibly incompetent... and to be honest, that would be ok, if they were just nice... but they aren't even that. -The bread is very average, better than Safeway, but thats about it, not close to other bakeries (Terra, cobs or local non-chain ones) -The sandwiches are below average (except the tuna is ok) -Coffee is below average too. So, not sure where these good reviews are coming from... every time i've been disappointed, ive gone back thinking they must have had an off day... but alas, you only get so many chances. so this review is for lovers of bakeries... save your time and effort, skip this one. read more

This is a deceptive little spot. The location is way outside the core of the city in Point Grey where you wouldn't expect high quality professional baking - but it is top notch! This is a lovely little neighbourhood bakery that has a few tables as well so you can eat there. It has a really warm feel to it, and a beautiful selection of baked goods. The little secret is that they also have some amazing soups. The carrot fennel masala and green apple curry are two of my favourites when they have them available. They also make some of the best artisan bread available in Vancouver. Grab a sandwich to sample the bread and then bring a loaf home as well! The chicken sandwich is a favourite, it has a pleasant amount of heat coming from chipotle infused mayo. This makes a nice little spot to grab lunch, or stock up on a crusty loaf of well made bread for home! read more

The staff here are extremely friendly and courteous, and the prices are very reasonable for fresh baked goods. It's all a thousand times better than any Starbucks selection for only a portion of the price. They have delicious $1.95 cookies that are big enough for two, and a great and ever-changing selection of pastries, bread loaves, cakes and sandwiches. This is a nice place to grab and go or sit down and read the paper. I was drawn to this place by its location. It's in a nice area and has a good atmosphere. The second time I went the service was polite, one server was training a new employee. Which made it a bit slow, but the lady doing the training had a smile and was very friendly. I wanted to try one of their cakes. It was ok, very dense compared to my favorite cake place in Vancouver. The icing was ok, but I wasn't satiated overall. LOVE their bread (so 4*'s for that) but 2* for service...some of the staff here are so-so. I don't go hear to sit or to eat, just to get their breads from time to time. I love the Pain de Campagne loaf (which is the bread used at Mistral restraurant!) and the Zoe loaf (which is a very grainy loaf). All breads are very good quality. I think I have found "the one"! Always on the quest for the perfect bread, I have happily found the honey whole wheat at Mix Bakery. Crusty edges with bouncy inside. Different from Tartine, but equally lovable. They must have one of the best breads in Vancouver. The cookies also looked tempting, but we decided on carrot cake and coffee cake instead. The carrot cake was pretty moist and flavorful and the icing was not too sweet, which is nice. My partner find the coffee cake to be delightful too. One of the less impressive was the banana bread, which I find a bit bland. Overall, a great bakery to stock up on freshly baked bread. read more

During my pregnancy I am having weir cravings and one day I really wanted tuna sandwich... so my hubby went and got me from there... it was AMAZING! to the extent that I am not buying my tuna sandwiches from anywhere else! I was starving and stopped in for a sandwich. $7.30 after tax for a sandwich seems a bit steep but they bake their own bread and grill the sandwiches. I got a chicken sandwich with chipotle on it. Very delicious. They make their chai in-house. It sounds attractive. The guy behind the counter says he loves it. He made me a chai latte and I was disappointed. Still on the quest for a good chai latte! If you have any tips, please give me some direction! The chocolate chip cookie was yummy on the other hand. Fresh and gooey the way I love it. No wifi, but it'd be an ideal place to come and do work but when I went there I tethered off my phone and it was nice and peaceful. People, and as do I, seem to love the sandwiches here. A big group came in and domineered the entire seating area. If a large group plans and coordinates themselves to go here for lunch then it must be good! Overall, great for lunch, good cookie, lousy for chai latte (though it has a nice spicy kick to it). Haven't tried the coffee but they use Cuppa Joe they said. Not sure what that is, I'm not from here. I'm only familiar with a few brands. If you're a coffee connaisseuse ou connaisseur then this is probably not the spot for it--I haven't seen anyone order it and I was eating-in. Delicious sandwich and cookie though! If I'm hungry walking by I'll definitely come back. I love the Mexican Hot Chocolate and the chicken sandwich here. Which are the only two things I have ever had! And yet, I have been here well over 20 times. I live downtown, so it's sort of a trek out to 10th, but this is where I come for, well, my hot chocolate and my chicken sandwich. The hot chocolate is yummy, although I like a bit more kick. One guy used to know how to add spice for me but so far, no one else has. And it's pre-mixed so a different milk is not an option. The baked goods are gorgeous and the staff is always friendly. This place is great but their hours just don't fit with my schedule. A good friend of mine lives next store to this super cute bakery but every time I try to go in their closed (at 5pm?) Their baked goods are delish as well as their hot chocolates. I've brought kids here too and they were all fans so this place is kid approved as well. Also, if you can take a peek in the back and you can see their production line equipeed with huge baking ovens and flour flour everywhere. Good luck trying to find parking though, this place is tiny and 10th is a busy street so you may have to circle around a couple times before being able to find a spot. read more

Love this place. Been coming here since I was in high school. Their sandwiches are fresh and made right in the back. My favourite is the chipotle chicken! I also love that soup and sandwich combo they have. They also prove pastries, cold dishes, and desserts. Careful of that 12-1pm weekday horde of high school kids though. read more

Their breads, sandwiches and soups are great. I personally love the Spanish bocadillo (a form of omelet with paprika, potatoes and other goodness) as well as their butternut squash soup when it's made - the combination of the two make for a great fall lunch. Their savory galette (made with mushrooms, a few greens, cheese and ham) is also a lovely dish with flaky pastry and is, in my opinion, a good deal better than their tourtiere or strata. Dessert-wise, their ambrosia cookies (made with white chocolate, nuts and dried fruit) are to die for and I quite like their fruit tarts and chocolate oblivion cake. I am torn on what to give this restaurant because their food products are all good but the service can be downright terrible. I've had two servers who somehow screwed up my order in more than one way. First, they took forever to get me a bowl of soup and to heat up my tourtiere. Second, the soup they served me was the wrong type and I made that known, which the person made a sour face and took it back for. And then the dishes were served and the server's cohort tried to make amends by giving me some cookies which was a nice gesture. I'm still amazed though because the bakery wasn't even packed and they had nothing to do! It wasn't as if I had somehow asked them to make gluten-free sandwiches or some kind of iron-chef worthy innovation involving spam musubi, coconut milk and cheerios! ... Oh well. The smell was what pulled me on when walking along the street. This then led to me walking in the store and getting their reccomended chocolate cake. It was very enjoyable as the cake wasnt overly sweet and had a nicw dark chocolate and caramel flavour. Will come back in the future to try their breads, which smells amazing. read more

Nice place in the neighbourhood with a large selection of baked good and soups and sandwiches. I like their breakfast pastries with pecans and cinnamon filling. They have a variety of delicious breads, however the more interesting ones are rarely wholewheat. When I inquired whether the cranberry, citrus and ginger bread was wholewheat the staff member told me it was, but it wasn't. It was still delicious though. Coffee is just satisfactory. This place welcomes you with smells of freshly baked goods which creates a great atmosphere even if you are not planning to buy any bread. My favourite bakery in Vancouver - probably a good thing that it's so far from my house. The sandwiches are pricey but glorious, and the bread .. oh man. My personal favourites are the Three Chili Cheese Bread and the Cranberry Ginger - both so, so good. They also have great cookies and cakes and do up a mean latte.
