Have had a few gel manicures here and have had a great experience each time! The waiting area is very spacious and the chairs very comfy - the space where you get your nails done is also fairly large and very clean. I have been impressed with the quality of the gel and Mitchell's willingness to remove old gel nails, even if they did not do them - it ensures your nails stay strong and healthy! I feel the service here is fairly priced and it is very easy to book appointments. I will definitely keep coming back for more manicures! read more

I went in to have my gel nails removed and then get a manicure. The nail tech cut one of my fingers, let it bleed and didn't know how to clean it, so I had to do it myself. Then, he was unable to remove my gel nails (isn't that basic knowledge?) and left on most of the glue. When he cut my nails he left them rough and cut unevenly. He then painted over the glue so that I had rough, bumpy nails. It was the end of the night and everyone was waiting to leave. So I was rushed out with wet nails. This took him almost 2 hours. I am 100% happy with my experience at Mitchells Salon and Day Spa in Rookwood. they have remodeled and I felt like I was in a high-end salon in Manhattan. I was scheduled with Hanna. It was the first time she cut and colored my hair. I think she is extremely talented and a "cut above." I left feeling relaxed and completely satisfied. I had an appointment for what I thought was a pedicure and hair coloring, but apparently I put in the wrong thing for the pedicure and had only scheduled a polish change. I'll take the blame for that, and I understand that the woman didn't have any room in her day to add that onto my appointment. But $47 dollars for a polish change?! I was stunned at that price. Also, my hair stylist was not very good: my spotlights are very uneven and not once did she discuss with me what my haircut was at the moment or how I even styled my hair. Thankfully I had a gift certificate to use this time and didn't have to pay out of pocket, but I doubt I'll be returning. read more

I have been trying out various places for facials since moving to Cincinnati a little over two years ago and I have not been super happy with any of those places - until now! I am SOOO happy with my experience here at Mitchell's that I booked another facial on my way out. First time I have ever done that! I got the deluxe euphoria facial with microcurrent and added on dermaplane and celluma light therapy. The esthetician Jenny did my facial and was so incredible! She was knowledgeable, gentle, and friendly. She helped me to feel relaxed and have a wonderful experience. She was also great at explaining the process before we got started so I knew what to expect. The experience that I booked was essentially a massage and facial in one, which was extremely relaxing and just what I wanted! I changed into one of those towels that is like a strapless dress that snaps around your chest and is knee-length and hot towels were placed on my feet and lotion gloves were placed on my hands. While I received the light therapy, my feet and legs were massages. Then during the facial, a moisturizer was left on my skin while my arms, hands, fingers, and shoulders were massaged. Hot stones were even used, which felt incredible. I was so impressed by Jenny and this experience. I am excited to try the oxygen facial that she recommended for my skin that I made my appointment for 2 months from now! read more

It was 100% my fault for choosing the wrong week to schedule a massage. I picked the next day instead of the upcoming week. I had to work and felt bad for canceling same day because I know it's last minute. I understand someone could be frustrated with a last minute cancellation, again 100% my fault, but the person I spoke with about canceling was so rude. I called the number the website provided and when I said I needed to cancel my massage she snapped at me to ask which location. I told her and she said "okay canceled". I tried to say "thank you so much" and before I finished saying it she hung up. I know I messed up by not scheduling the correct day but I was surprised at the way it was handled. read more

Just had a one hour massage with Mandy in West Chester and am TRILLED! Has to be one of the best massages I ever had, and she removed the knots without pain. Tosha did my massage and this 3 star review has absolutely NOTHING to do with her! She was amazing. I was nervous going into the massage with this only being my second one ever but she made me feel so comfortable. She always made sure the pressure was okay. She was truly amazing. The reason why I'm giving this 3 stars was because of Mitchell's itself. The table I had was wobbly so every time she would massage me the table would wobble. Tosha tried her best to keep it from moving but she couldn't stop it every time because of the massage position she was in. The music was loud to begin with but as the massage went on it got louder. There were employees talking and laughing loudly in the hallway and at one point there were people in the office behind us laughing super super loud. Tosha knocked on the wall to get them to stop and they stopped for a second and then went right back to it. It took away from the relaxing massage. I've heard great things about Mitchell's and expected the very best experience and was disappointed with Mitchell's. Again, I highly recommend Tosha from the Mitchell's in Rookwood/Hyde Park. I have been going to the same stylist at Hyde Park for about 2 years. She does a good job with color, but the cuts have been too rudimentary, so I have switched to a different salon for cuts. The one problem is my stylist keeps forgetting to not leave that dark mark on my skin after coloring and she also treats my hair so roughly that she pulls a lot of my hair out while she is rinsing out the color. Also, I think their prices are pretty high, and they do charge for a blow dry if you get color. Just the last week I got a touch up on my roots and "spotlights" of highlighting and the bill was over $143, and that was without a blow dry! Once I use up the gift card I bought to save 20%, I will probably be switching salons. I am looking for excellence and value at the same time, and I know that's a difficult combination, but I'm going to keep trying. read more

I enjoyed my last appointment to Mitchell's, Aliaha does an excellent job as Nail Tech. Initially, I only scheduled an appointment because I received a gift certificate and used it for my birthday. My experience was wonderful. That is how I came into knowledge of the level of service and the experience to be had at Mitchell's. Each time I have been has been a great experience. Whether I am getting a manicure or pedicure, Aliaha is my go-to. Also, the facial I had was ethereal! I will definitely be scheduling on one those again. I was hesitant to write this review, but then I noticed that there are "110 other reviews that are not currently recommended" that echoed my experience at Mitchell's. A few months ago, I visited a hairstylist at Mitchell's per a friend's recommendation, but I really didn't have a great experience. Since it was my first cut with her, I opted just to get the express haircut (description from the site: "SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER AND CUT ONLY, CLIENT LEAVES WITH WET HAIR, OR MAY DRY UNDER HEAT LAMPS WITH NO COMB OUT OR FINISHING") to make sure I felt comfortable with the salon before coming back. My hairstylist, though friendly, really seemed to be in a hurry, and asked if she could cut my hair dry. I know now that I should have just been honest about what I wanted, but I didn't want to stress her out. I agreed to the dry cut. In about 10 minutes, she finished a super light trim that really didn't look much different than the hair I had when I came in. I asked her to cut a few extra face-framing pieces, but she seemed so impatient that I didn't make any comments about the rest of my hair. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt-- maybe it was just a stressful day, and maybe I should have been less polite and more upfront about what I wanted. Or maybe an express cut wasn't what I understood it to be-- I was expecting a normal cut without styling. It just was a strange, uncomfortable experience overall. read more

I have been going to Mitchell's Hyde Park for massages for over 15 yrs and I still love it! My massage therapist Jamie is the best! He goes above and beyond if you need more than just a feel good massage. I have gone to him for shoulder & neck issues, hip & glute, and hand issues and always feel great when I leave. My family treated me to the Tune Up package for my 50th birthday and I enjoyed a great morning this past Saturday at Mitchell's. I started with the Express Facial and it felt anything but. Amber lavished attention on my face and also gave me a foot and lower leg massage. It was bliss and I couldn't believe how relaxed and happy I looked when she was done. Then it was on to Jasmine for a half-hour massage. I prefer a strong massage and Jasmine did not disappoint. Because the massage was short, she had me choose an area on which to focus -- neck and upper back. She found knots that I didn't know existed and was perfectly ruthless with them. Mallory gave me a lovely manicure and I really enjoyed our chat, too. Those were the items from the package. My feet were looking rough, so I added in a pedicure, too. The Signature Whirlpool Pedicure was a very rare indulgence for me and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It's not at all rushed, includes a scented whirlpool soak, sugar scrub and pumice exfoliation of the rough spots, all from a perch on a massage chair. Ashley took great care of my feet and we have a good laugh, too. This was a great gift. read more

I'm not a big reviewer but feel compelled to take a minute to share about a recent service at Mitchell's. Martha cut my teenage son's hair and it is amazing. The reason for the review is that my son has freakishly thick, "difficult" hair. He's been to many salons and some cuts are ok but just ok. Other stylists have really struggled with his hair so to have this beautiful cut that was tailored to his hair type and style made him so happy. Martha took time to understand his hair struggles and offered suggestions, before they agreed on a style. She spent so much time getting the cut just right and it shows. Martha explained which products would help his hair style and showed him how to apply so he could achieve the look at home. Days later, it still looks awesome. My handsome son now has a cut that is befitting him! And Martha has a devoted new client. Thanks! read more

Was there for a massage and pedicure. Those were fine especially the massage. Jamie is great this review is on a last minute bang trim I got. I asked if they had anyone available and they did. It cost 21.50!!! For a bang trim and then she cut them so short first cut. Sorry I didn't wait to go to regular stylist. I have had bang trims at great clips that were much better. I was extremely pleased with my facial with Jenny. I've been to Mitchell's several times, but usually go to Kenwood. This was my first visit to Hyde Park location. I was happy that I was able to make a same day appointment and will definitely book with Jenny again. She was tentative and focused on my main concerns. I appreciated her recommendations and purchased the PCA Creamy Hydration Face Wash and Collagen Hydrating Moisturizer that she recommended. My face feels great and the products have really helped with my dry skin. Products might be pricey, but, I don't mind spending a little extra on my facial care. Thank you, Mitchell's Hyde Park! Mila is a fabulous stylist (5 stars) at the Hyde Park/Madison Rd/Norwood/Oakley or whatever location best describes this iteration of the Mitchell's salon and day spa. I've been at various other M. locations, and they keep good records of all of your services across locations. She had carefully reviewed two years of my service record, noticed that I had made several changes, and asked what I'd like to do this visit. She listened, asked questions and listened some more. She noticed some very subtle changes that a last-minute-fill-in pro stylist made, and inquired if I wanted to keep with the direction of that cut. No ego, no drama; I got the sense she really just wanted me to be happy with my cut. And color. Mila did my color retouch in record time, while holding a pleasant conversation and without any mess. My biggest praise is how Mila texturized my hair cut exactly how it needed to be in order to lay flat without losing length. (If you have thick hair, you can relate). It is seriously the best hair cut and color I've had in the last 10 years. Thanks Mila!! read more

For posterity's sake, I'll leave my original review of Mitchell's below. Back in November I got a pretty bad haircut there and posted that review on yelp. I was contacted by a salon manager at Mitchell's a few days later who personally apologized and offered to bring me back in to 'make it right'. And they did! Last night I got a great haircut from one of their salon directors - Morgan. She was super nice, very skilled, and took her time to do a great job. I'd definitely recommend Morgan for anyone looking for a new hairdresser. I really like the way my hair looks, and plan to head back again. I'm upping the rating to five stars because the second haircut was great, and I was genuinely surprised by the way their management handled the situation. I think they're the first business I've ever seen go out of their way to take me from unsatisfied customer to happy customer (and kudos for being with it enough to check your Yelp reviews)! A lot of businesses these days just dismiss customer criticism, but I feel like I was listened to and like Mitchell's actually cared. Most people would probably balk at the price - the director level haircuts are almost fifty bucks for guys. And given that it's Mitchell's, you're already paying a premium just for the entry level stylists over other places. But, I have a really difficult combination of thick hair and cowlicks, so I tend to view a good haircut as something worth paying for. And, they made good on their promise of delivering better service than the average shop. So boom, there it is. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I chose this place to get a test haircut before my December wedding. I figured going up the price scale to this salon would ensure the hairdresser would take her time and give me a decent scissor cut (call me picky but I don't like clippers). The outcome was not good. After multiple explanations of how my hair cannot be cut too short in some places lest it stick out (damn cowlicks), and how I prefer the person blend evenly with scissors, she took everything down to an even 3/4 inch, cut it super unevenly down the sides and back, and buzzed the neckline up too high. I haven't been told "Wow, that's a bad haircut" since I stopped going to Great Clips ten years ago. No less than three people have said that in the past two weeks. Most mornings, my hair sticks out on the sides and back, like I didn't care to fix my bed head or take a shower. Nothing I can do about it, even if I put pomade or spiking glue on it. I feel like I could have gotten the same quality cut at GC. Oh well. The hairdresser earns a star back for being nice and conversational. read more

Not great. I signed up for a color service online. I assumed that the service included a simple blow dry since anywhere else always includes this in their main price. It did not. So after being left with too dark of a color, an embarrassing brown crown stain around my head, and soaking wet hair on a day it was 20 degrees outside I was rushed away and charged $99. And the interior decor is the same as it was in the 90's. Very dated and unattractive, and the service they put out is the same. read more

I have been going to the Kenwood location for a few years, dropping a couple thousand every year. Then I discovered that the rookwood location is a lot closer to my home, so I have made an appointment with the salon to treat my best friend's mom for mother's day. We made appointment 2 weeks prior to going in, and they told us if we want to cancel they would like a 24 hour notice. No problem. On the day of our appointment, we arranged our whole day around our 5:30 appointment, just to get a phone call at 4:30 telling us that the girl didn't feel well, so they are cancelling our appointment. No apologies, no attempt to try to find us another appointment, just that s**t happens. I was not happy, but rescheduled for two weeks later. Two weeks later, again, we scheduled our whole day around this big spa day, work early, get off, speed home, go to spa, then dinner. Well, two hours prior to our appointment, they called and cancelled again. Once again, no empathy, no attempt to help. I told them I'd like to speak to someone in charge, they transfer me straight to someone's voicemail. I call back asking to speak to a real person, not a machine, the receptionist, Mariea, told me that the lady in charge is gone for the day (3:30PM), and that she will not be taking a message for me to have the lady call back, and that the conversation is over. There are hundreds of spas around Cincinnati, you can be sure I will be taking my money somewhere else rather than getting cancelled over and over again an hour prior to my appointment and be told s**t happens read more

The balayage process is a little time consuming, but totally worth it. She took her time and I'm absolutely thrilled with my new style and color. I've never had beautiful nails -- they've always been very short, and since they would break easily, manicures would never last. My nails are naturally weak and thin, so even gel/shellac manicures would peel off in a just a few days. I'd basically given up, until I met Katryna at Mitchell's! She convinced me to give her Extended Wear Manicure a shot, and I'm now hooked -- my nails have never been so beautiful! She is a true master in her craft. She takes so much care to ensure that my manicure looks great and will last. She's also given me lots of tips to help me take care of my nails, and is awesome at picking out colors!
