I had a bad experience at this place. I am a vegan so when the place had vegan options I got excited. However, I came with someone who is not vegan and we ordered two flavor, one vegan and one not However, when I asked the person at the cash register she was not sure what flavor was which and just made a guess and asked me which was the 2nd flavor I ordered. So after her 2nd guess I asked if she could confirm with her teammates who scooped the ice cream. She refused and just really didnt care about my dietary restrictions. So I went ahead and asked the scoopers myself and she once again jumped in and didnt not allow them to respond. At the end of the day she was wrong and I broke my vegan diet and my stomach is extremely upset. I will not be returning. read more

What I like best about Mitchell's is that train set that circles the store, which you'll find in nearly all locations. Mitchell's runs circles around other ice cream shops too (except Jeni's though, this is at par with Jeni's). Cold stone on the other hand has needlessly slow service because they have to unnecessarily pound their ice cream into that cold stone. Not here, they give to you straight to your belly! There is a reason Mitchell's Ice Cream always makes the Beat of lists in Cleveland... It's because they truly are. Our family found Mitchell's via Scene Magazines Best Of and I am so very glad! We've pretty much stopped eating ice cream from anywhere else. We buy the take homes and stock the freezer every so often, otherwise we take a drive up from Warren and enjoy some! I am very impressed at the consistency of their product. Many places who make their favors are not as consistent in the taste and texture and I fee this sets them leaps and bounds apart from the rest. My Personal favorite is the Caramel Sea Salt. I love the rich creamy dark taste of it. I love a waffle cone of it. Their ice cream toppings are also quite stellar. In Truth I have not had anything here that was not! I've always loved Mitchell's Ice-Cream because they support the community and Susan G. Komen. The ice cream is amazing, a bit pricey but there portions make it totally worth it. My #1 favorite is the Banana Cream Pie and it must be everyone's favorite because it often sells it quickly. My second favorite is Key Lime Pie. You have to try it. I can buy this flavor in the grocery stores and I hope one day they'll offer BCP in stores too. And their cherries.... ask for an extra one, you'll thank me later. This location is awesome. Very generous scoops and a relatively fast line for the many people who always come! :) I love how many choices there are and the numerous fresh fruit options. My husband enjoys the bing cherry and I was fortunate enough to get some of their seasonal flavors this time. (I must choose popular days to come since the seasonal ones go first.) I got the strawberry-jalapeño and coconut, which were both very tasty. There was a nice kick to the strawberry-jalapeño - maybe a bit too big in this batch, but I thought the combination was awesome. The coconut did well in taming the spiciness, so that was nice (but perhaps not the best 3-some combo that I created). My only small complaint about the coconut ice cream was just how sweet it was given the use of coconut flakes instead of fresh coconut. (OK, I know I know, where would I find fresh coconut in Ohio anyways?) The scoops were enormous so this became my dinner (score). I'm likely the only person on earth with this request - but if there is a way to do 2 flavors for 1 scoop, I'd get to enjoy more without my stomach bursting :) Meanwhile, this is a great hang out spot for delicious ice cream. read more

At a risk of losing my Cincinnati-Cred, I'm about to announce that my spouse, 3+decades, born-and-raised Cincinnati (and I) agree: Mitchell's Ice Cream is better than Greater's. Alright, so don't hate. It actually is just different. It's flavorful and fun - there are many options at Mitchell's and they seem to always have many new experimental flavors when we go. Also, Mitchell's is a CLE shop with local pride, so I don't think they'll be taking over Cincinnati. Sorbet: both flavors are great. Ice Cream: Great Lakes beer-fusion ice cream is surprisingly amazing. Service: attentive and focused. Outside seating is great and there's plenty of space inside. Still some of the best ice cream I've had. Maybe that's more nostalgia, since they're not as far out as things like durian ice cream. But they have grown & improved over the years, experimenting with more flavours, such as chevre & honey, lavender & toffee. In addition, many ingredients are sourced locally--certain flavours have a little placard indicating where it's from/how far away. I like it, it has always been a hangout place after events with friends or just to get ice cream. They have lots of flavors I personally like blue cosmo but they have much more than that. I hadn't been to Mitchell's in awhile and WOW, they totally redid the place. It looked really nice and updated inside and there seemed to be more seating than before, especially outside. Although on a summer night a long line is pretty much guaranteed, they get through it really quickly. I always have a hard time deciding on an ice cream flavor, but luckily the workers are always really nice and let me sample as many as I want. My normal go to is pralines and cream, but this past visit I branched out and I was so happy I did. I ordered a taster's duo which is the same portion size as a single scoop (which is pretty big) but you can pick 2 different flavors. I ordered pistachio and a lemon & raspberry frozen yogurt. I am still dreaming of the lemon raspberry combo...soooo gooood! Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any flavors here, but it never hurts to try a sample...or 5 just in case! read more

Mitchell's always tastes so fresh and creamy, like it was just made. They use fresh ingredients which really makes their ice cream standout, you can imagine the strawberries being picked the same day they just burst with sweetness. My favorite is the coconut, for it's butteryness. The raspberry has just the right amount of tang. And they are happy to customize your sundaes, if you want a banana split with two bananas they will oblige. It's probably one of the only ice cream spots where they recognize me. On a good day, this is the perfect ice cream spot. On a bad day I sometimes come here for lunch just to make things better :o) read more

Was presented with handheld device to pay for it and then asked for a tip which is extremely annoying and puts you on the spot. Ice cream then showed up outside in a dish which is even more annoying! Then learned after I had made the payment and had given a substantial tip they are not doing cones. There should be transparency, even if business is challenging at this time. Average ice cream. This place should be called "World Famous" Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream! You know it's good when there's a line out the door in the middle of a Cleveland winter snow storm in -9 degrees weather. It turned me into a complete ice cream addict. The Caramel Sea Salt with hot fudge should be illegal it's so good. I've been here almost everyday since the day I moved to Ohio. The employees are so friendly and you can tell they enjoy what they do. A girl named Karina always has a sweet smile and great suggestions for different combinations when I ask.
