After eating grocery chain meat for a while, I was craving the umami flavor we once knew. I am the daughter of a retired meat cutter. I know quality meat. Mitchell's brought back good memories as soon as I stepped up to the meat case. There are not to many choices. But there are good choices. I decided on both pork and steak poorboy cuts. I also chose Italian sausage and ground chuck. We grilled up the sausage today and it was delicious! It went well with the Milano buns they had ( which were about the freshest we've had ). The butchers were very friendly and the customers seemed like regulars. The prices were pretty decent ( unlike Tischlers ) So we will definitely be back! read more

Went here recently. Place was mobbed,due to the call, of shortages of beef. Long lines in the store. Everyone wore masks. When my number was called there was a moratorium on beef: Ground Chuck, 5 lb max. My butcher was very friendly and went to the cooler and sliced me up 5 fresh lbs. Had some last night( made burgers, they were excellent!) packaged nicely. I also got some chicken breast, no skin. Couple lbs of pork steaks, and some bigass sirloins. All cut by my friendly butcher. Prices are high but, its worth it. Cheaper than Tischlers and service was better! Granted their case is smaller than other butchers, but service is great, and its a full grocery store as well. At least my freezer is stocked for awhile. Worth a look. read more

Best butcher shop and small grocery store around! The ground chuck, bacon, hot Italian sausage links, pork chops, mock chicken legs, deli meat, cheese -- too many favorites. The butchers are super attentive and friendly. They will package your meat exactly as you'd like -- 10 lbs of ground chuck divided 1 lb each or whatever you choose. The grocery shelves always seem to have exactly what I need, which saves me a trip to a large grocery chain. And they still use price tags, like a time gone by. read more

A nice mom & pop store still surviving the sad days of modernism. While it has a butcher, i shop here occasionally just for their sales. I am a vegetarian, so i cannot comment on the butcher shop products. I try to ignore it while i purchase bread, cereal, fruit, etc... I appreciate this nostalgic store surviving the good ol' days and remaining a hidden gem. Staff is friendly and it is nice to be somewhere other than chain stores. Its great to see a small old-fashioned grocery stand on its own among the sea of superstores out there overwhelming our neighborhoods. Sure seems like nothing here has changed a bit from when I started patronizing this establishment some 15 years ago. I believe they're more well known for their meat and deli section. Such high quality at a great price (their hot Italian sausages are my favorite). We are pleased to have found this little gem. We usually do a lot of our shopping at a big name grocer but I am looking for that small and local relationship not too far from home so this fit the bill. When we first pulled into the parking lot I was a little skeptical, since we are not familiar with the neighbor hood and live in a cookie cutter subdivision just west of Mitchell's. We walked in and checked out the meat department and I was instantly sold. We placed an order for some rib tips that were not available and ordered some meat and cheeses. When the day came to pick our order up, I was able to call and confirm that the order was there and all this was done with professionalism, and you can tell their customers happiness is important to them. We will be back and excited to get to know those behind the meat counter at Mitchell's. read more

Great local mom and pops store with a strong butcher selection as well. The butchers are nice as can be and will take as much time as you need. The only thing I wish that had was a 80/20 ground beef as they usually only have very lean beef and that's not the best for making burgers. But overall, great selection of meat and your everyday essentials. They also carry a great amount of products from the Milano factory in Joliet. This is the one place I can always rely on to find that as well! read more

By far the best meat market around. Their product puts the crap you get at the local groceries ( Jewel, Food 4 Less, and Ultra) to shame, including the uppiddy yuppy Tony's and Mariano's. Mitchell's baby back ribs are unbeatable and the ribeye steaks are the best. Their prices are very reasonable especially lnowing that you get what you pay for.
