This place is exactly like Whole Foods but without being owned by Amazon and the Whole Foods Price. It's got everything you'd want at a farmers market. I only stopped by to check it out since Fresh Thyme is a relatively new chain to the Chicagoland area. On my first tour of the store, I could immediately tell that this would not be my regular, stock-up grocery store. That being said, however, there are myriad components I would like to return regularly to look into! CHECK OUT: Boar's Head -- Some of the best deli meat & cheese in the business and difficult to find in this area. I picked up some chipotle gouda and maple ham which made a wicked grilled cheese. Sushi -- My visit was Sunday at 11 AM so they were just putting out the individual sushi meals. Looked great and freshly made sushi is a rarity for grocery in this area! Wild Game -- Yes, there are some places that have meats from different animals, but I took a picture for Yelp of the ground goat, elk, antelope, etc. that resides in the back near the butcher area. Might start with the bison hot dogs and see where this goes... Bulk Dry Goods -- The variety of candy caught my children's eyes (how many types of chocolate or yogurt covered pretzels can there be?), but I also enjoyed the variety of dry goods. Makes me miss Home Economist in Barrington, IL. Make Your Own Pizza -- Could be fun to stop by and have them make a pizza right there for us. Love this location ! It's great having them in Joliet and I hope they stay. The world overall is moving towards more healthy diets and I think over the next ten years fresh thyme and this location will be trending upwards! That being said, they have to do something about the check out lines! Often long waits, and I'm not talking about because of short staff or Covid. It's been like this for a while since they opened. Maybe if they had a ten items or less lane perhaps or maybe just paying more to their cashiers to make sure they always have someone up there. That being said, overall I wait in line because it's worth it ! Fresh Thyme is to Sprouts what Jewel Osco is to Albertsons. I'm not sure why these companies go this route when they branch into the Midwest, but they do and while other people might not notice, they're not fooling me. I've been a huge advocate of Sprouts when I lived in Texas because the prices and selection were outstanding... Fresh Thyme, not so much. The prices weren't great on the produce that wasn't on sale. Wah, wah, wah. And much of the produce was past its prime. The bananas were very fresh looking though. Some varieties of the tomatoes and apples should've made it straight to the garbage. I will say that FT was actually quite large. And if you're like me and you like to load up on grains, this is the place for you. I picked up a pound and a half of granola for around five bucks so that wasn't too bad. I'll definitely be back for their grains/candy/spices sections, but not for the produce. Perhaps in the spring-fall their produce selection will be better, but I'm not keen on playing vegetable roulette. read more

Not many extra precautions taken for Covid-19. I was very disappointed. Other than self serve bar items being pre- packed and bulk area closed, nothing different. It surprised me the checkers weren't wearing any PPE, nor were they wiping,spraying or sanitizing anything! No guards of any sort. I don't think I will return. read more

Outstanding selection of organic produce - and they have great produce sales! I got enormous organic red bell peppers last week for $.99 each. So much cheaper than my beloved Whole Foods! I love that they tag each gluten free item on the shelf with a tag next to the price tag, so you can quickly scan the price tag areas looking for GF items. Tip: Sign up for the smart phone app. They often have BOGOs and coupons you download in the app and then you scan the barcode at checkout. read more

It was my first time being in here and the store looks clean, organized and well stocked. The staff inside was super friendly to all of the customers. They have a nice and quality selection of foods and other products. The produce in here is super fresh and they have a variety of choices. The prices are mostly fair and reasonable. My overall review of the store is great, however, the meat counter needs to have better customer service. Every time I go there I have to try to get someone's attention behind the counter in order to get waited on. They're either behind the glass with their back to you or they're off to the left out of your line of sight. On a Saturday I would think you would want your employees front and center in order to serve your customers. After waiting patiently for the gentlemen explaining his brining technique to his female coworker for over 5 minutes I finally interrupted them asking to be waited on. Usually we do not have any issues at the check out, however, today, Saturday, when we went to check out, there were 2 lanes lit up, however the one cashier was 4 lanes down bagging for the only other cashier that was open. This added an additional 15 minutes to my experience. There had to have been 5 to 6 customers behind me when a customer who was in lane 2 called to the girl bagging asking if anyone was working this register and when she was finished she went over. I guess she never saw me standing in the same line 10 minutes prior. I just shake my head and truly question managers and what they teach their employees. read more

When Fresh Thyme opened in Joliet years ago, it was EXACTLY what we needed! Joliet isn't known for being the healthiest community, but we've been stepping up our game. This was the first chain around that wasn't eclectic (like Mariano's) -- you couldn't find Cheerios or Pop Tarts which I loved being a food/ingredient freak. Over the years, things have changed a bit. Most of staff members (Denise, Debbie, Cory, Scott) are still amazing to me, we talk to each other like we're friends and they help me with absolutely everything. They're the best! Sometimes I need a lot of stuff (mostly quality produce) because I do shop for my own business at Fresh Thyme whenever our produce is lacking from other distributors. The quality at Fresh Thyme is outstanding, and that's another thing I'm happy has not changed. The only things I've noticed are the conventional items taking up shelf space. I can't blame Fresh Thyme for that, you've got to be eclectic to get more people in the door and offering familiar items like Cheerios is what they have to do to make more sales. But when I started seeing shitty ingredients like partially hydrogenated oils (trans fat) in Fresh Thyme's own branded peanut butter, I lost a lot of respect for the company. Cutting corners is not what Fresh Thyme set out to be. Nevertheless, I know better to check the ingredients of everything I buy. I just wish that Fresh Thyme stood true to their original standards for their own brand. Bringing in familiar, old school brands that use harmful ingredients is one thing but using them in your own brand that's touted as being natural/organic/non-genetically modified is another thing. I still love Fresh Thyme, but hope that big business doesn't end up taking over their entire store! We will be back for our usual biweekly shopping trip tomorrow to see all our favorite staff members and get some great quality products! read more

I love this store! Everything is fresh and affordable! The vegan and vegetarian options are way more than other stores. And they are taking every precaution for Covid. All employees wear masks. There are One Way markers on the floors in all isles. Cashiers have shields between them and the person checking out, and I have witnessed them remove people for not wearing masks on more than one occasion. read more

I love this store. It's never horribly crowded when I go, the produce is usually pretty fresh, and I'm a fan of the bulk section. I mainly came here to post my two cons about this place because other wise it's great. Cons: 1. The checkout employees are usually crabby and hate their lives/jobs/whatever. 2. CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES ON EVERYTHING! I've stupidly picked up things and taken them home only to realize they are expired. I bought a pack of microwavable noodles last week and they expired last month. I didn't notice until today. Thankfully I saved my receipt. read more

Always well stocked, clean, and the staff is always friendly. Best selection of produce items in the area including some places that are strictly geared towards produce. Definitely the best vegan, organic, non-gmo, selection the area, with brands you can't find anywhere but Whole Foods at about half the price. We shop here at least once a week. Beware of what you buy from behind their seafood counter. Went in today to buy US Gulf Shrimp which was on sale for $11.99/lb and asked the man behind the counter for everything they had left and if they had any frozen. He said a bag over in their frozen area was the same thing. When I looked at that bag it was not the same and was Bangladesh shrimp for $8.99/lb. So I just took what was behind the counter. As I walked away from the counter I saw him walk over to the freezer, grab a bag of Bangladesh shrimp for $8.99 and put it behind the counter advertised as US Gulf Shrimp for $11.99. Called and informed the manager and she did not care in least bit. They are advertising one thing and selling you bagged cheaper stuff instead. Makes me wonder what else they have behind their counters that is just bagged crap and not what you think you're paying for. read more

So, I love this place. I walk over from my job and pick up a lite lunch if I did not pack anything. On Wednesdays they have last weeks same items and the current week sale items both out there for us to purchase. You must try their fresh made sausages. The single serving micro way Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo is yummy in my tummy. Vegans and vegetarian shall rejoice for all the fixins they can pile up in their carts. The fruits and veggies are all top shelf. I have it gotten anything from the deli yet, but they sell Boars Head products. So, yeah, they rock. The staff are friendly, and if they don't have an answer, they find someone to explain the products to me. That makes me feel VIP!!! Thank you Fresh Thyme for the courage to open up in Joliet. I don't have to drive to Naperville to go to TJ's and waste gas and have my tax revenue going out of my home town. You guys are the best. read more

A large, well-lit store with wide aisles. Prices are high on many items but their sales are usually decent. I like that they have a small kosher section, carry many cruelty-free items, and many vegan and vegetarian choices, kosher wine, and taffy. I buy several bath and personal products at FT. Many employees are friendly, one a little too friendly by using f*ck in her conversation with me. Just be friendly, professional and do your job in a relaxing manner without the f-bombs. The cashiers are usually nice and engaging. I reccomend shopping here. read more

I used to be a die hard Whole Foods shopper until Amazon changed it. I am glad I found Fresh Thyme. They have a great bulk food section and I especially love the bulk spices.i lovw the health section too. My only complaint is when they have a sale they NEVER prepare and stock for it. Last 3 weeks they have had an oraganic chicken breast barn burner sale and 3 weeks in a row none in stock when I am there. It happens all the time for different items on sale. The staff is friendly and nice and I enjoy my checkout experience. read more

This is the cutest little store ever! I finally went here for the first time and did not think I could do a "full" shopping trip but to my surprise I was able to get every essential item and then some!!! They have an amazing butchers counter and make their own fresh sushi in house. Their produce was so ripe and vibrant! So many vegan options and their craft beer selection was great too! read more

I love this store I used to go to the one in Deerfield in Mount Prospect all the time because I lived out there I recently moved to Plainfield and was excited to find that they had fresh time out here but the reason for the three stars is they need to keep their meat counter behind it sanitary! I was getting some bacon and I noticed all the bacon was just messily thrown around behind the glass case touching the sides in walls of the dirty case! It wasn't all on the Styrofoam little trays it was just all over the place touching the actual case. Other than that product and food is phenomenal from here read more

Love this store! It's like a mini-Whole Foods but with better prices!! Wonderful variety of fresh produce. Huge selection of cheese, wild meats, and an olive bar. I don't eat red meat but the fish was very good. The salad bar isn't much to write home about but you can grind your own nut butter or fresh oats--soooo good! You can dispense you desired amount of honey, syrup and oil in provided jars. There's a deli, a sandwich and pizza shop, and a bakery. There is a lot of organic, non-GMO and plant based food, fresh and frozen. My favorite part is the bulk food area. Since I live by myself, most often I need small amounts so I like that I can buy only what I really need. There is a small by adequate selection of by the pound spices, too. OH, and delicious fair trade coffee. The store is clean and bright. I've found the employees to be helpful and friendly. The sales are incredible! read more

This was my first visit to a Fresh Thyme store. I must say I'm impressed! They have a great selection of natural/organic products, a lot better than what you'd find at a normal chain supermarket. The only downside is the high prices, but that's the norm for places such as this. read more

So happy Fresh Thyme has made it's way to Joliet! Their selection of more wholesome, less-toxic, "green", and organic products is just what I'm looking for. Double Ad Wednesdays are even better (you get to shop both the sale prices of last week and the new sale prices). I am still exploring with the Fresh Thyme brand and so far I really love their oven roasted chicken lunch meat, thick - sliced bacon, garlic hummus, and deli cheese. Fresh out-of-the-oven pizza and sushi make for an awesome dinner to-go. And I cannot resist trying a different flavor of Kombucha every visit. In the past, I was an avid Whole Foods shopper...but now I find myself thoroughly impressed with Fresh Thyme and make it my weekly grocer of choice. Check them out! read more
