Redwood Acres - Acres of eats. Bounce house for the kids.

Redwood Acres

I have been coming to Redwood acres for over 50 years, ever since our family moved to town in 1974…read more They keep up the grounds very very well. As for events, You name the event, I've probably been to it. Auto racing, the circus, I saw the lippizaner stallions here the Sunday flea market. The annual Redwood Acres Fair, (it's a small fair that runs for about a week, but it's always fun.). And one of the funniest shows I ever saw here, was called "extreme midget wrestling." I recently attended one of their summertime monthly events, called "acres of eats." a good sized selection of food trucks/trailers, entertainment, activities for the kids, etc. It was a wide selection of food. I had. A stew and an empanada from a Colombian food trailer. It was absolutely delicious, and the price was very reasonable. If you have a chance to go to this event, or anything else else at Redwood acres, it's worth it. I hope Redwood acres lasts for a long time coming. It's a wonderful asset to Eureka.

Additionally, the event (forgot the name) allowed the students to go on a hay ride and sit inside of a parked helicopter where race cars /monster trucks arena is usually held. Overall, it is a nice place to experience large events to small events like the county covid testing area.

First off to say, I'm not an elk, but I have been in here quite a few times for events. Our high…read moreschool class has had several reunions here, and we just recently had our 45th. The place is clean, and it's just such a nice atmosphere. Not too fancy. A very nice atmosphere. The bartender was very friendly, and he made sure to take very good care of us. If there was anything we needed, somebody was there to help. The food was excellent. We had a choice. Of either chicken or grill your own steak, with all the trimmings. I had the steak, and it was very decent sized. It came with seasoning, barbecue sauce, and butter if you wanted to put it on, and then you just popped it onto the grill, and in a few minutes, your dinner was ready. My steak came out, perfectly, medium rare. It was tender, and it was delicious. They had several different desserts, and they were also very good. Afterwards, we just had a nice time visiting and catching up. It was a great event. The Elks always take good care of us. Thank you for a very good evening.

First off the location and facility is really nice. The building is huge with so much meeting / congregating space. Most importantly are the members. Such a warm welcoming group. From the person checking in people, to the bartender to just people hanging out.... All very hospitable people. Had a couple of drinks and some good conversations. I could see becoming an Elk sometime.

Wharfinger Building - Front of Wharfinger Building

Wharfinger Building

As an administrative assistant at a local high school, I plan annual events for my students at the…read moreWharfinger Building, and have always had a pleasurable experience with the City of Eureka staff who are responsible for its operations. The rates they charge for events are very reasonable. Reaching someone from their office is always fairly easy and they get back to me very quickly, whether I'm using email or phone. I book the Wharfinger for a winter dance at the end of each January. Staff provides me with a layout of their venue along with a list of the furniture items they have available for my use. I then create a layout design using their template explaining what tables and chairs I would like to utilize and where I would like them placed. I usually take a group of students with me to decorate the venue about 5 hours or so before our event is set to begin. Staff always has my requested layout design ready to go, allowing me to just show up and decorate. I opt to pay a bit extra for use of the kitchen facility. I put all drinks and perishable items in their industrial refrigerators, giving them plenty of time to cool before the event, alleviating the need for me to deal with ice. One less thing to do while chaperoning! There are small hooks around the ceiling trim of the building, which makes it very easy to string up lights. We are allowed to tape items to the walls as long as we use painter's tape, and we are also able to string up lights around the patio rails of their back deck. This allows us to create an ambient atmosphere behind the venue overlooking the water. Students often enjoy taking breaks from dancing and hanging out on this patio area to cool off. Staff on hand during events are always incredibly helpful, and assist me in anything I need. Explanations are very thorough when I'm signing off on forms at the end of the event, and they make it very clear what is expected of me during cleanup in order to get our security deposit back after the event. Staff has also been happy to let me borrow a ladder or an extension cord if I needed one, and it's wonderful to have employees on hand in case I have any questions or needs that arise. This is a hassle free venue that I will continue to use year after year.

On the national historical registry since 2010. the wife and I were there one evening recently for an ArMack Orchestra performance, the sound within the auditorium is very good and I'm sure in her prime she was a grand venue, but this building has definitely seen better days. The first thing I noticed was the "mushy" smell when you walk into this large space - mold, dust and disrepair are apparent. The art deco interior is still very much there and intact - mostly just needs an update after all the years of neglect. Great stylized cut glass wall sconces, and stylized cut glass overhead light fixtures along with the lobby entrance and foyer details reveal just how great this grand structure was back in its day. High ceiling soar overhead and two huge murals - left and right of the stage reminded me that this used to be a place where people in the town gathered regularly in a different era. This space is now a multicultural facility for the performing arts and monthly movies. Also available for rent for special events, weddings, parties, concerts, etc. This is a special place within old Town downtown Eureka that needs to be used to keep her alive, and is in need of some loving restoration to keep around for future generations. Still a 4 Star venue for all of its awesome architectural details that still exist after seven plus decades. And, a venue that has the potential to be a true 5 star gem - with a little help. 00127

They feature awesome programming like "Science on Screen," when science lectures accompany sci-fi films, and live scores by musicians such as the Invisible Czars. Visiting the theater for their monthly noir night has become one of my favorite activities since moving to the area. Definitely grab a local beer, cider, glass of wine or speciality cocktail while viewing a flick--all proceeds go toward the theater's restoration. Rumors has it that the theater will soon have it's own deco Air BnB for rent upstairs--can't wait to recommend it to out of town visitors :)
