The 1920-30s building is from an era gone by, a time when going the the theater used to mean something. It was an event to go to in its day. Painstalkingly restored and revitalized, with attention to the details is obvious when walking into and through this building. An architecturally beautiful Art Deco facility. Ornate detailings throughout the building with impressive fixtures and appointments and true to its heritage. There is really not a bad seat in this house, as it is designed and setup for live performances. My visit was no exception, six rows back and stage left. A near perfect location for a view on to the stage without looking up. The sound system is top notch as well, and the acoustics exceptional throughout the building. The production itself was good. There were a few aspects of the production that were surprising... Borderline startling... But in total the talent as well as the student aspects were very pleasant. There were even some cameos by some local icons! (No spoilers!) The venue itself has sufficiently comfortable seats and an open, spacious lobby. The mezzanine is large and affords good vantage. I sat center in row m, which was a bit away from the stage. This didn't bother me as the space is intimate enough to afford fine views from everywhere. The decor of this site is downplayed. I am not sure how to define it... Neither Grecian nor Elizabethan but borrowing from both, the walls made of a sculptors wide brush-strokes. I didn't entirely like it... But it certainly didn't detract from the production quality. I will possibly revise to 5 star after my next visit... As the missing star has more to do with the specific production than the venue itself!

They make full use of their small space with cast utilizing the rows between the audience's seats. Each season they present six plays. There is always at least one musical, comedy, and a Shakespeare. Each runs for a few weeks with most performances on Friday and Saturday evenings and with a couple of performances on Sunday afternoon. Tickets are very affordable but the season ticket is the real bargain. I have never been disappointed. Yelp asks whether this is good for kids. The simple answer is generally not but some of the plays are kid friendly.

My family and I enjoyed playing miniature golf and arcade games for an hour and a half. We really appreciated that they had drinks and snacks for sale too. It was fine for one night but I don't know if I would choose the same type room if staying longer. The hotel has some history behind it and can be a little creepy if you decide to walk around at night by yourself. Our room was #16, located on the second floor. The room was a decent size with a sitting area with two chairs and a settee and a small armoire to hang your clothes. The bathroom was small with a walk in shower but the shower pressure was good and the water was warm. No air conditioning but there was an industrial oscillating fan in the room. Unfortunately, I didn't find the bed too comfortable and the headboard creaked a lot but it was ok for just one night. Taylor at the front desk when we checked in was very helpful and informative. We left early, around 8am and they had a complimentary breakfast available for guests consisting of bagels, sweet pastries, fruit, Tillamook cheese and sliced tomatoes and cucumbers which I presume are for the bagels. It is dark inside and smells "old". Our room was nicely decorated in old Victorian. It was overlooking the corner of 2nd & C right over the Irish pub. Everything was clean and nice inside. Bathroom was small but well stocked with supplies. The issue is more with the area. We took a walk after we arrived through the marina and old town area and concluded that we didn't feel terribly safe. We decided to stay in after dark. There were plenty of homeless and very "sketchy" people walking around talking loudly to themselves, etc. Know the rooms have no air conditioning so the hosts opened a couple of windows facing C street, which we left open all night, hoping that street wouldn't be terribly noisy. Fortunately, the Irish pub below us closes around 9:00, and the Mexican restaurant across the street was the same. By 9:30 or so the street was very quiet with only the occasional car and lone, loud motorcycle around midnight. Also there is no TV in the room, so bring your own entertainment! The WiFi didn't work either. We couldn't find the WiFi the hosts provided on check in. Overall, this area of town is trying to revive and the hosts are trying to bring back this hotel. Just be aware!

It was a great way to meet new people and the environment was super classy! There were some christmas lights set up for the free-dance, but not the multi-colored ones. This definitely set a romantic or fun tone to it all. This place is also a plus if you want to have an impromtu (and cheap!) date night or when the weather goes bad and you have to spend the night indoors.

The only thing I could say I didn't like was the cost of beer and wine was pretty steep- about seven dollars per drink in small plastic cups. The oysters where more affordable than any of the beer or wine was. The square was very crowded but everyone was nice, and it was enjoyable to see everyone so interested and enthusiastic about the local oyster business.

Barely were able to get beers, and that was so exhausting that waiting in another ginormous line for oysters was impossible. We left without even finishing our beers. Definitely will not be doing this again, and will warn others off as well. Unless ... unless the organizers think about the people's experience and not just how to pack them in like cattle at a feed lot. And what's with not having it at the Arcata Plaza on a Sunday (so as not to compete with the incredibly well-organized Arcata farmers market)? Don't anyone tell me it's about COVID, because the way this was set up it was a super-spreader event. The events at the Plaza were way better than that animal pen.
