I'd recently gone to see a show here and was very impressed. The work that the director does with…read morethese young people is remarkable. The New World Ballet is a wonderful addition to the Arcata community because it keeps kids out of trouble by allowing them to engage in a creative discipline. I really admire their hard work and dedication; these kids perform like seasoned pros. Grade: A+

----------------------- To all the parents out there who are…read moreconsidering this ballet school, please read this review: ---------------------- Years ago I was a student at this ballet school. Nadine Cole was my teacher. Nadine had excellent knowledge of ballet, but unfortunately that did not make her a good teacher. She was extremely abusive to me and the other girls at the school. I remember a time when this teacher made a girl dance until her feet bled though her shoes. She would point out a student who she believed had a perfect ballet body and then compare other students to that model saying they were overweight. These girls were very young, perhaps 11 or 12. It was not above the teacher to scream and yell at her students. She would smack rulers against the ballet bars to scare the girls. Many girls would cry after leaving the class. I personally felt terrible and ugly, and it took many years for me to feel comfortable with my appearance. I usually cried after every class. Our daughters deserve better. Ballet is beautiful and can be taught in a positive way. Save your daughters from the pain and suffering I and so many others experienced. Please find a teacher who can encourage your daughter and help her became a strong woman.

Where do I start?!…read more Brian is the coolest guy I know. He is also the most talented musician and most entertaining performer ever! He knows how to play a million instruments and all styles of music. He was in a very cool touring band and is super humble about it. He is great teaching both kids and adults, which requires very different teaching methods. Have you seen School of Rock the movie? He's basically a real life Jack Black full of awesome, inspiring, rock n' roll energy! I started pursuing music at Brian's school when I was 18 and am now pursuing music professionally! Brian's school was where it all started for me. He gave me the opportunity to perform on stage for the first time, a Led Zeppelin cover show! I found my passion for singing rock music right there on stage and haven't stopped pursuing it since. I was enrolled at Brian's music school until I moved out of the area. I had an awesome vocal teacher and also dabbled in guitar, piano, and drum lessons. It was so cool being able to try everything! He even taught me a lesson on bass when I needed it last minute, and I know other people who took trumpet and ukulele from Brian! I loved the school and the environment so much I even ended up teaching there! The staff he hired were all super friendly and professional. The students and parents were all really kind and it was a joy working there. Brian's unique and friendly personality ignited a passion for music in many kids who I'm sure had no idea they would fall in love with it. He really knows how to cater to all levels of musicians and most importantly, have FUN. I strongly encourage you to go take a lesson! Try a new instrument or hone your skills on your main expertise. The most fun part is performing in a show at the end of the season! Having the pressure to learn your parts really encourages you in a special way. You don't want to let down the band! And you don't want to let down me. So just call Brian already and schedule that lesson! You can thank me later when ROCK ON

My 12 year old sister lives in Eureka with our grandma and she wanted piano lessons…read more Not any piano lessons would do. I grew up taking piano lessons with a teacher that was too strict to the point where I would come home crying from every lesson. I didn't want this for my sister as she was looking for piano lessons to be fun. After talking to a few older teachers in Eureka and feeling like they were way too serious. I finally found Brian and The Eureka Music School. He was super casual and cool. So my sister just had her first lesson and loved it. He seemed to know how to simplify piano playing which made it fun for my sister and she feels like she's already progressing fast. I'm glad I helped her find a good one and I can't wait to hear about how future lessons go. Brian is an awesome guy who seems to be able to play every instrument imaginable and he is a great teacher! Highly recommend.

So I'm a mother of two, a teen daughter and a younger son, and I'm trying to get back in shape and…read morehopefully get them started on a healthier path too. Figured I'd check out some of the local gyms and see what's out there. I checked out health sport a couple weeks ago and wanted to share my experience. I live outside Arcata so first stop was the Arcata club. Idk, maybe it's fine for some people, but it kinda just felt like it was full of young meathead gym bros hovering around the weights and grunting. Front desk staff were friendly enough but the vibe inside just wasn't it for me. Weight room was honestly a little intimidating, especially when you're trying to bring your kids along. Then I checked out the McKinleyville club. It was super quiet and seemed clean, but also kinda boring? Not a lot going on there, like if you don't love cardio machines and weights. Not sure what else there really is to do. Might be fine if you just want a basic place to work out, idk yet. Then Eureka, locker rooms definitely needed some love. Pool had a bunch of stains at the bottom which just made it feel kinda gross. Crowd there seemed a little older though, which I actually liked better than the Arcata vibe. But good luck finding a staff member when you need one. Felt like nobody was around. Got roped into a "tour" by one of their sales guys as we wondered around. Dude's hair was all messed up like he just got up from a nap and looked like a gym bro in a polo. And worse, it looked like he was checking out my daughter whenever he thought I wasn't looking. Made me very uncomfortable and SO creepy. I finished the tour quickly and we left. I don't remember his name but if you go there, you'll know who I'm talking about. Will not be going back there. Heard they have a site down in Fortuna that's supposed to be nice but that's way too far for me, so not even gonna bother. Honestly not sure what my option is at this point. Arcata feels too much like a frat house, Eureka just feels sketchy, and McKinleyville, maybe?? I was told I could set up a trial so maybe I'll do that and see how it feels when I actually try to work out there. Guess we'll see. Anyway, that's my rant. Just wish it wasn't so hard to find a decent place to get a workout in without feeling weird or uncomfortable.

How did I change and overcome my fear? I was in the care of the Eureka Driving School, my instructor was Larry and he taught me that being calm and collected within myself was important. I was taught the mechanics of driving within small scenarios on the streets of Eureka (which was my biggest issue) then he would take me on long drives which helped my nerves. The sights and the repetitive motion of handling the car allowed me to become more comfortable in what I was doing. Trust me. Once your naturally readjusting your speed and checking your mirrors, then more focus on the road is offered which puts you in more control of the situation. Always know as well that your instructor is there to help and guide you. When it came to the drivers test. I had a previous prep which I highly recommend for everyone because it's sort of a sneak peak. For the confidence and support of Larry to be there for me from the start and finish. So I passed! I wouldn't have done so if it wasn't for the kind and respectable Eureka driving school so parents, if you want your children to be in a safe environment and learn how to drive instead of learning to do loops in the parking lot then this is the place for you. Everyone else, look into these lessons. It's worth the pay and your time, I assure you.
