Dr Mitchell truly cares about what you are wanting for yourself and tries his best to not over medicate but only what you actually need unlike many doctors that I have seen. He takes his time to talk about how things have been going in your life. Plus he has a very sweet and well behaved lazy dog named Bubba who likes to lay in his bed and sleep while in the appointment. Well, I've been with PHMG ever since I started making my own appointments, and I simply have not experienced this type of systematic dismissal. Usually I'm listened to and treated with respect, and I feel safe advocating for myself while also having things explained to me so that I never feel like I'm out of the loop about my own care. I cannot emphasize enough how important maintaining a sense of autonomy and dignity is in being able to take charge of your own health. That should be the norm, frankly, but I'll just say I'm very fortunate for the care I've generally received here. Sometimes you have to be aggressive with following up on stuff and may have to play phone tag for a while to get an appointment with a specialist, and often they're short staffed in certain specialist areas; I know that's there's been administrative shenanigans as of late, which I don't put on the people working at this clinic; again, the doctors and nurses here have generally been excellent so my frustration isn't with the quality of care during appointments. I understand that dealing with everything is putting a real strain on a lot of people working at PHMG who are doing their best, and I can sympathize with this, but it does end up being pretty frustrating on the patient's end too, which is why I still docked a star. Nonetheless, as a long time patient, my experience has been more good than bad overall here.

She told me I was an addict and needed to be put on the new drug for addicts only. She scared me. I was no longer in a safe space. I was born with a form of dwarfism, Multiple Epiphyseal Dysplasia. I started having surgeries at 11 for orthopedic procedures. I've had 54 surgeries. Mostly orthopedic. Im always on pain meds. Im very proactive about my health. Im an herbalist too and I know so much about pain management because I specialize in it as an herbalist. I grow my plants and make strong medicines. Morgan said to me. "I know all about your bone disease ". Not hardly. My orthopedic surgeons said, only i know all about my bone disease I've had my knees, hips and elbows replaced. My elbow replacements are broken and Slocum won't help me. So I'm referred to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. This woman was only concerned about what I was talking about and how much time I was using. Insurance just changed our appointment times. 2 subjects. 20 minutes. My bone disease affects my whole body. She was so unreasonable. So threatening. She stood over me as I bowed my head in prayers and berated me. You see, I am a very strong patient advocate for myself and she didn't like how strong I am, so she became mean. Im not an addict and I don't qualify for their new meds for addicts. My body is , not my mind, my new doctor told me, so no you dont qualify for the addict meds for opiate use. I have no idea how she does her job and sleep at night knowing she does a horrible job.

He prescribed me medication and knew that I was apprehensive about taking them. I also told him my body was sensitive, so he put me on a very low dose, half a pill. It took me over a year to finally start taking them. I tried to get an appointment in to increase my dose because I had been taking a full dose for an entire month and found that it helped me tremendously. He wouldn't see me for two months! His office considers me a "new" patient because it's been over a year. I've told other doctors and they've never heard of such a ridiculous policy. He was more than happy to give me 5 refills, but of half the dose! So much for caring about my mental health. I decided to find a primary physician who could see me. I told him my case and he prescribed me the full dose, no problem!

She seemed to want to responsibly handle my medication, and I didn't feel very objectified, and she was honest about not knowing how to help me without a diagnosis. She did not become frustrated. Our successful social interaction might have been due to my heightened social awareness at the time of the appointment, in addition to her creativity/ experience with psychiatric disorders. I advise you don't go into any first appointment with a psychiatrist in a confused or emotional state, or a weakened state at all, period, if at all possible.
