Yummm.... I love Mister Softee....eating chocolate dipped cones while walking down the street signals the beginning of summer for me. For some reason, I always stop to get one when I leave a museum....the perfect combo. read more

I am a soft serve/froyo snob. I really prefer a slightly tart, firm froyo. But the convenience of Mister Softee lured me in. I'm sorry, but 3 dollars for a sub-par dip cone is ridiculous. The "dip" was gross and waxy. The actual soft serve was pretty good... a little sweet for my liking, but pretty good. The cone itself was actually the tastiest cone I'd ever eaten. Will probably try a regular chocolate soft serve cone next time. read more

It's not fancy, it's not fro-yo, but god, the memories! I grew up in Queens where the sound of the Mister Softee truck sent all the kids on my block screaming to their parents for money, including me of course. Chocolate cone with chocolate sprinkles, please. My sister will have the vanilla w/rainbow. read more

When I first moved into the city, I didn't realize how prevalent these trucks were, so I made my friend walk with my from Grand Central to Union Square, because I KNEW there was a mister softee truck by Shoe Mania. I'm surprised we didn't 1. take the subway or 2. run into another truck on the way down to union square, but by the time we got there (half an hour later), we both ordered vanilla cones with sprinkles and forgot about our sore feet. The prices all vary (it's a lot more expensive up by Central Park), but $2.00 buys me complete happiness, so I tend to indulge on a cone at least once a week. read more

If you've ever had homemade local soft serve ice cream, then you would think that soft serve from Mister Softee is too thick, too sweet, and feels very commercialized - like it came from a huge bag mix. It also wasn't very cold (granted it was a sweltering hot Saturday afternoon). My boyfriend and I ended up throwing our ice cream away because it just wasn't very good. read more

OMG, I didn't know that I could enjoy an ice cream cone so much! I was visiting NYC this weekend and my friend encouraged me to try the soft serve of Mister Softee. I'm really not a cone girl, but I tried it with the promise of lots of sprinkles. Delicious! I was a little grumpy before the ice cream, but afterwards, I wasn't. Coincidence? Probably not! Seriously, love this stuff and thinking about when I can visit NYC again just so that I can have another twist cone with rainbow sprinkles :). read more

Yes, I gave MISTER SOFTEE only 3 stars. The soft serve is good; but nothing spectacular. Having not grown up in NY, there is no nostalgia for me, so my review is based solely on my 2 experiences. I went to the truck on hot days for a plain chocolate cone ($3, if I remember correctly) and another day for a strawberry sundae ($5). For prices that high, I just expected more. So convenience + quality - price = 3 stars, Mister. read more

Oh Mister Softee, I remember when we were $1.50 a cone. Yes, I am showing my age but now you are double that price. However, I have fond memories of your music coming down my street and it always reminds me of summer. Now to the present day. Mister Softee does not always play music while driving the streets of Manhattan but the trucks look the same. Price now range from $3 to $5, I recently ordered their vanilla with fudge topping (you know, the kind that hardens on your ice cream, like a miracle of chemistry). It was tasty although a bit overpriced at $5. Wow, take me back to 80s prices. Anyway, it was good nonetheless. read more

I have no idea how this ice cream gets so many good reviews other than pure nostalgia. In a way, I totally understand - I remember a similar rosy glow over things like Voltron and Coco Puffs until I went back and re-experienced the travesty they truly are and were. But dude, c'mon. You know McDonald's ice cream? The kind that's vegan because it's so synthetic that there's no milk product in there whatsoever? The kind that doesn't actually melt if you accidentally leave it on your kitchen counter overnight, but just dissolves into an evil foam? Yeah, well, if you did a double-blind taste test there would be no question that it still places light-years ahead of the greasy fart that is Mister Softee. If you have a choice then go to the Yellow Truck (i.e. Van Leeuwven) - it shouldn't even be a question. If you don't, then save yourself a stomachache and at least get the pre-packaged ice cream sandwiches or eclairs or whatever. Because I'd rather lick a BP tarball than one more soft-serve cone from the truck with the murderous-rage inducing music. read more

Remember when you were a little kid, and these trucks would ring their tinny bell, and all the kids in the neighborhood would run to the truck with a few quarters from their Mommy? Well these trucks still roam Manhattan.. .and those outside during lunchtime grab a softy cone with soft chocolate or vanilla. I love their thick milk shakes too. All are on par with what you get in Carvel's franchise stores too. Always refreshing to have their ice cream. read more

Maybe I'm turning into a soft serve nazi...but if I'm going to ingest 1000 calories on a dessert it better be damn good...this was no better than my drive thru Dairy Queen or Fosters Freeze. It was expensive, a bit runny, and just ok at best. I suggest saving your money & calories for that Big Gay Ice Cream Shop...really... I mean it... read more

I get a vanilla cone with chocolate jimmies. Holly gets a chocolate shake. Every time.

Things that remind me of childhood summers: - Man hunt - Slip-n-Slide - Lemonade - Skip-it and...Mister Softee. Good stuff read more

I've never seen an ice cream vendor less willing to stop and wait for someone to come and get ice cream from them. They fly through the neighborhood. You can never find them. And you wonder why in the hell they're even in the neighborhood to begin with! Very disappointed! After waving you down you looked me straight in the face and went the other way! read more

This was another one of my favorite street food on my trip to NYC. I absolutely love soft-serve ice cream and this is as good as it gets. I believe it is my favorite soft-serve in the world! LOL! You must try the cookie crunch it's soooo gooooood! The ice cream has this unique taste to it that makes it so special. My bf and I loved it so much I think we had it 4 times during our trip. I was always on the lookout for a Mister Softee truck every day of our stay! It tastes so good especially since it was so hot. You have to try it! I can't wait to go to NYC again to experience this sweet, creamy, goodness! read more

Mister Softee is a glorified Mcdonald's soft serve ice cream at several times the price. The toppings are nothing out of the norm and it seems like a truck is camped out on every other block in the city. Where do these wagons go to hibernate in the brutal winter months? read more

Mister Softee reeks of my summer childhood in Queens, running around under lukewarm sprinklers in the public park and hearing that jingle, that pied piper's song, that instantly set all fifty million half clothed half soaked 8 to 12 year olds running like lunatics and screaming to their mothers/fathers/brothers/sisters/grandmas/grandpas/anyone in their path..."AAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYSSSSSSCCCCRRRRREEEAAAAAMMMMM!!!" "ICE-SCREAM ICE-SCREAM gimme money quick quick gimme money". My father would always joke "yes yes i hear you scream". It was the worst joke ever for my childhood. Luckily, it was usually grandma and grandpa who took me to the park, and they didn't really speak English, so the whole thing above played out in Russian, and I got ice cream, and boy was I happy. The end. read more

Mister Softee... terrible name for a porn star, great name for a great summertime treat. _C$ read more

Mister Softee certainly doesn't make me soft I'm always excited to see the truck. One parks on 14th/1st ave and since I was a wee little Jewish lad I always looked forward to the first day in Spring that the truck showed up. At $2.50 for a Cone/Cup it's become a bit pricey but it's a NYC summer tradition just like Carvel. read more

You know what? It's airy and creamy and delicious and the vanilla is perfect when you cover it in rainbow sprinkles. The ultimate sweet treat, to be eaten ONLY in the hot sun. I loves me some Mr. Softee. Especially because the one on grand concourse is wayyyyy cheaper than anything in Manhattan or Brooklyn. SCORE ONE FOR THE BRONX. The only thing is that you need to watch out for "mr soft" and nameless "soft ice cream" purveyors. Accept no imitations my friends. read more

I ate two cones dipped in cherry syrup on an odd and extremely cold day in May. And then I fell in love, and then I never stopped coming back. read more

The experience we had with mr softy ice truck was great!!!!! I had 55 people over to celebrate our holiday Yom Kippur and having the ice cream truck to complete the evening with a delicious dessert was amazing. The staff and attention we received was very professional and a pleasure to do business with.I recommend mr softy to all my family and friends. By far the best ice cream in New York. It's so thick and creamy and amazing. I would get one everyday if I could afford the calories. You can find their trucks by most parks. My favorite is the vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles. read more

Ahhh Mister Softee trucks totally brings back childhood memories. Playing at the park and hearing this obnoxiously annoying tune over and over again to finally approaching the truck to get either an ice cream cone or popsicle wrapped in a plastic covering. Back in the day these ice cream cones use to cost only $1. I have no clue how much they cost now since I don't venture out to my childhood park often very much anymore but I'm sure the prices did rise. Whatever the situation and price is, Mister Softee has always beat out other truck's competition and served over 100,000 kids in it's span of operation, myself included. Keep it up Softee! read more

I had a root beer float here w/ vanilla soft serve after a two hour bike ride tour of Central park...I know...what a tourist :) My float was quite tasty and a nice treat after biking on a hot day. read more

if my name were mr. softee i'd be kinda embaressed. i would make a tijuana viagra run ASAP and change that degrading name. but for the soft concoctions that come out of the softee shaggin wagon im all for it! read more

I'm glad that everyone seems to like this stuff... but I have to say I thought it was terrible. I thought I was eating Cool Whip that had just been taken out of the freezer. While some people might find that satisfying, I for sure did not. I even got sprinkles on it.... still couldn't finish it. read more

Best summer treat. I love the class vanilla softserve with sprinkles...I just wish it was a little bigger ($2.50 per cone) because it's soooo refreshing and just leaves me wanting more... read more

The best $2 I could ever spend - on a fattening yet oh-so-creamy and vanilla-y soft serve. I make a note to scout out all Mister Softee trucks when I'm in NYC. One time I spotted a Mister Softee copycat and refused to give in. Like Pinkberry, why are we San Franciscans so deprived?? read more

Freggin AMAZING soft serve. It tastes like you are eating frozen whipped cream because it is soooooo creamy. $2 for a good size cone!

New York has it right with soft serve trucks. Sure it's not the best, and sure it's expensive at 2.50 for a small, plain vanilla cone. But I'm a sucker for soft serve, and I will buy it if it's accessible. I suppose if that's the case, it's a good thing I don't live here. Yet. read more

It's alright. Nothing to write home about, or even to remember when you walk by again. Keep walkin'

mr. softee, i've been wanting to try mr softee's icecream for a long time & i finally did the other day. the weather was WAY too cold for one, but i got the cherry coated soft cream anyway. unfortunately, i do not like your cherry coat. it was oily & didn't melt in my mouth. it got stuck all over my teeth. as for the soft cream, well, i couldn't really get to enjoy it with oily chips of stuff in my mouth, and that was a disappointment. maybe i'll try some other kind next time, but for now, i'm gonna have to give you a 1star. yours truly. read more

soooooo creamy smooth! quick tasty assorted ice cream treats that are sure to please all ages! $3 for a yummy cone is pretty reasonable. The guy that served us at Columbus Circle was very friendly! I LOVE Mister Softee. Brings back memories of chasing him down the street when I was young. What's with the prices though?? $2 for a cone w sprinkles. Used to be so much cheaper. Although I'd pay $10 for that delicious treat on a hot day!! Mann is it delicious.. MMMMMM :) read more

Ahhh... Mister Softee, what NYer doesn't instantly smile at the wonderful jingle that announces the onset of summer? Flashback to the 80's, Memories of playing skelly with beer bottle caps in the park with my sister before abandoning the game to make a mad dash to the truck at the first faint strains of that magical jingle. Sigh... but I digress. Ever since I became a "grown-up" I've always resisted eating Mr Softee because I was afraid that the ice cream in all actuality would taste awful and I wanted to keep this cherished part of my childhood intact. But one humid spring day I gave in and prepared to burst another bubble of childhood nostalgia. "Vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles please." I cautiously took a bite... OMIGOD THIS IS DELICIOUS! This tastes exactly as awesome as I remember! I quickly inhaled the rest of my soft-serve and promptly ordered my childhood favorite, Vanilla with red shell, (Cherry? Strawberry? Who knows, it'll always be "red shell" in my book!). Ahhhh,...bliss... Get your butt out of that Pinkberry line and get yourself some damn Mister Softee! read more
