    Banana Boat

If you're looking for some good soft ice cream without going to the store this ice cream truck is great. Right now they only have vanilla and chocolate but sometimes they also have strawberry and banana. But they make a delicious Banana boat with the works that can't be beat and some of the best fudge Sundays around. But if you're into thick shakes they have them too and they are also very good.

If you're in the mood for mass-produced ice cream bars, just take a hit and go for it. Mister Softee equals love, and like that pesky emotion, Mister Softee can strike anywhere. Just make sure you have cash so you can buy me some soft serve. Please? Like Pavlov's dog, every time I hear the familiar chimes of a Mister Softee truck, my ears start wagging and my tail perks up. Something like that.

Oh Mister Softee.. The memories.. I still remember my mom buying me my first ever rainbow sprinkle cone when I came to the United States..20 years ago.. When it was still $1.25. Good times. I remember that used to be a bi-weekly routine for my parents and I; after school, walk up the block and wait in line for a rainbow sprinkle from Mister Softee with his familiar jingle! Fast forward 20 years and here I am.. Still with the same routine.. Buying a Mister Softee cone every week now (weather permitting). And of course..a rainbow sprinkle cone is now $2.75..about the same price as a gallon of premium gasoline..Loll (Couldn't think of another comparison). And if you're unlucky and you're in a tourist trap like Time Square and you suddenly have the ice cream craves, Mister Softee there can cost almost $3-5 for a cone.. CHILL.. I got my go-to Mister Softee ice cream truck too..This brown guy who routinely drives by P.S. 162 in Fresh Meadows where I play handball. I have his cell # too..in case I'm craving and I need a cone ASAP. Simply dial his # and be like, "Hey bro, where you at? I need my fix!" Word. That's a thing now. A fix. Loll.. :D #fatpplproblems Mister Softee is a NY staple. Obviously they don't have the best ice cream in the world..but hey, for $2.75, I get a sweet dose of creamy, smooth ice cream to satisfy my craves. Plus, on those days when I'm not feeling a cone..I get to order a strawberry milkshake and my guy actually uses real strawberries in the mix! That's good enough for me. No complaints from this fatty! :P Though I am curious about one thing.. Reading some reviews from my fellow Yelpers.. How do y'all get sick from Mister Softee?? O_o Must've been some bootleg Mister Softee that served you..wow! Or maybe cuz I have a black hole for a stomach.. I swear..sometimes even I don't know where the food that I eat goes.. *shrugs* Mister Softee will forever be a NYC icon. And will forever have a place in my heart. :D Deuces.

2.50 soft serve on a cone. You can get half vanilla half chocolate!

SOFT SERVE & other ice cream! if you're indecisive like me & can't choose btwn vanilla & chocolate, instead of getting the swirl you can get vanilla on the bottom and chocolate layered on top!!! ---$2.50 for a cone which is way more expensive than McDonalds and i still think McDonalds tastes better, but Mister Softee is such an NYC novelty, not to mention there's more selection here!

    Nuts and chocolate sprinkles!

I found Mister Softee today in FIDI area near water street... the funny thing is - 1) I was randomly craving ice cream 2) I have always wanted to try out Mister Softee and I feel all the good stuff is located in midtown It was meant to be for me to try this today. I got a vanilla cone with half nuts and half sprinkles. I have never got this combo before but I loved every bite. You have to have crunchies on your ice cream I realized! This cost me $3.. which I feel was a bit on the steep side for a cone from a truck...but the quality was there.. I also docked a point because my cone was stale...which normally I throw away my cone so it all worked out...but those of you who love the crunchy cone with ice cream inside...might be a deal breaker!

Pretty sure that Mister Softee follows me around NYC, if that isn't the case there are just Mister Softee trucks everywhere! With this muggy, warm weather Mister Softee does not disappoint. From various dips, sprinkles and flavors this truck makes them so cartoony perfect you don't even want to eat the $5.00 ice cream you just bought. But to hell with that, soft serve to your heart's desire. I got a double vanilla, cherry dip for $4.00 and it was pretty good. It's refreshing, sweet and the soft serve was pretty good. The cherry dip tasted anything but cherry and was more of a coating to protect the quickly melting soft serve, it just tasted sweet. After a while the flavor does get kind of old, stick to your single or grab ice cream elsewhere. A good quick treat, but man $4.00 for a cone of ice cream is kinda steep especially coming from an old school ice cream truck like that!

    Half vanilla, half chocolate.

Mr. Softee is pretty much everyone's childhood anthem. That gentle song that you hear playing down the street is all it takes to get you to fumble frantically around your wallet for singles as you rush outta the door to catch the ice cream truck before it leaves your block! I don't need to convince you guys, lets all revert back to our 10 year old selves as we savor our soft-serve ice cream :).

Wow. I hadn't had a vanilla milkshake in ages, but this one was awesome! Creamy, satisfying, cold. Not too sweet actually! I happened to just run into one of these trucks while shopping in Soho. My brother, who had lived in NYC for 6 years, immediately went up and purchased this said milkshake. Unfortunately, I did not try their soft serve so I can't comment on that, but I'm sure next time I run into Mister Softee, I will!

Lalalalalalalalaa.. lalalalalalaa.. lalalalaa... Well, I'm actually kinda tone deaf. Don't rely on me to name songs or sing anything for you. The carefree days of running around with at least one band-aid on the knees, when biking without a helmet was legal, and playing hopscotch was still age-appropriate. Yes, we did not hibernate in front of TVs or computer screens at all hours of the day and/or night. Sometime around 4 or 5 PM each day, we heard the beloved tune that epitomizes the joys of childhood. At the first faintest ding-a-ling, we quickly gathered any money we could find, stormed down the creaky stairs, risked our limbs and skulls as we hopped down the concrete front steps, and raced in the direction of the blue and white promise-land on four wheels. Soft serve? Want chocolate drizzle? Strawberry drizzle? Sprinkles! Or flavored icies? Oooh, they have banana splits! Ice cream sandwiches! Oh oh, what about the strawberry shortcake ice cream bar! And a chocolate version too! Or should I get the orange creamsicle bar? Oh too many choices! Oh, I'm dying from indecision and I have so little money!!! Arggghhhh!!! How do children around the world deal??? I've always enjoyed Mister Softee, but I was always sad to finish it so quickly. I wished the sweet sound would stir my ears again, so I can raid the piggy bank for more money and wrap my little hands around another Mister Softee treat. Don't go, Mister Softee. Don't turn the corner. Don't leave me here savoring the last icy lick of nectar. And so it goes: ~ Here comes Mis-ter Sof-tee ~ The soft ice cream man. ~ The cream-i-est dream-i-est soft ice cream from Mis-ter Sof-tee ~ For a re-fresh-ing de-light su-preme ~ Look for Mis-ter Sof-tee ~ My milkshakes and my sun-daes and my cones are such a treat ~ Lis-ten for my store on wheels ding-a-ling down the street and on and on... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0rGNLd6tdw&feature=related

I hired a Mister Softee truck for my wedding yesterday, and I cannot give them enough stars for the amazing job they did. The truck arrived at the scheduled time on the dot, and immediately got to work making our guests happy. I've never seen such efficiency in my life. All 80 guests were served in no time, and they came to us throughout the night to tell us they've never seen this done before and it was "the best idea ever." Every step of the simple process was a delight, from the company's kind and prompt replies in reserving the truck, to the exuberance of the driver. Thank you, Mister Softee!

Not the best, but still good and memorable, and pretty for that matter

Wow, the brisket was the best bbq brisket I had eaten anywhere. Until today, the best I had eaten was in Texas and in Maine. It was so moist, flavorful, rich melt in your mouth brisket deliciousness ... with a perfectly paired horseradish bbq sauce on the side. Everything is clearly homemade with lots of experience and love...A heavenly brisket for sure!! The bbq beans with a variety of beans and chunks of beef that was also absolutely delicious and a standalone meal ... best beans anywhere with regard to flavor, spice, bean variety, texture and sauce ratio. And finally, the Mac and cheese was perfect, not too salty and more like the Jamaican macaroni pie ... crispy on the outside, great cheese quality, and perfectly salted wothoit being greasy. It paired perfectly with the flavorful moist meat and beans!! I returned to share my gratitude to the incredible chef du jour, Freddie. We wished we had gotten one more so we could each have two. The amount of meat and veggies was perfect. Much more shrimp than I had anticipated. The shrimp were big, butterflied and flavorful. This came with neither, and I had to pay $1.50 more for a small cup of pico de gallo, which tasted like it had no jalapeños in it. I had to put a lot of salt on all of the food. I don't generally add salt to my food at restaurants. I don't generally need to. Especially Mexican restaurants. The beef was good. I never had cheese melted onto my fajitas either. I think it was Oaxaca cheese, but I'm not sure. There was no cheese on the side, which I'm used to. While the meat and peppers and onions had a decent flavor after adding a lot of salt, the guacamole was just a pile of green mush. (I thought it had tomatoes and jalapeños in it, but this did not.) the refried beans were just tasteless paste. Very thin. The salsa that came with the chips in the beginning of the meal had virtually no heat, and didn't taste anything like tomatoes or red peppers, but was red. Vegetarian burrito: just disappointing. The rice and beans were stuffed inside, nothing served on the side. We are of the opinion that the food items were made fairly fresh with fresh product, but just simply had no flavor. I am usually concerned about high heat in Mexican food. No heat here. None at all. Boring AF. I recently spent a few years in Arizona, and my problem with most Mexican restaurants is that they are Americanized. Not this one. Just boring AF. And yes, worth saying that again. The TV was blaring some television show. Too loud. Service was so-so. So, we leave and decide to sit on the edge of the parking lot, retaining wall. Right by the Shell gas station. Strong BBQ base under sours and sweets and crunchies, held together by something that reminded of a potato bun. Even the mock Cheesesteak was a big chew hoot and a half. Gooey cheese over finely chopped beef, with onion mixed in. Not the Prince of Steaks, but a damn good facsimile.
