This is a neighborhood staple! Their subs are outstanding, great ingredients punctuated by phenomenal BREAD!! They offer the traditional Sammie's as well as a vegetarian option with cheese, onion, tomato, lettuce etc. they also have great sides, like coleslaw, potato salad, egg salad etc.. Their pizza & cheese bread sticks are also great, however their pizza sauce is a bit spicy compared to traditional sauces. I got some pizzas here for a party and they were a huge hit. The dough is made there and it tastes like it. The toppings were plentiful and fresh. I hate canned mushrooms and was happy to see they use fresh mushrooms on the pizza. Good beer selection. Wine is a fair amount pricier than other stores so we don't buy it from here. Not to be confused with Mr. C's which is just down the road and also a Grosse Pointe staple. Mister As is a wonderful little Mack Ave deli shop. Been one of my favorites to come to over my years growing up in this town. Vince is a kind man, and his staff follow suit. Here's what you need to order. It's called an OJ with a bloody glove. You can forgive the name and won't see it on the menu but it's in my opinion their best sandwich. It's a chicken tender and cheese sub that's put in the oven and covered in tomato sauce. Love at first bite. Of course they make good pizza and they have other subs you can get as well as some side dishes like pasta salad, lasagna etc. Vince runs a good shop, and he's been good to me. Great food, friendly folks! Their subs are fantastic, and no doubt you'll find other treasures there too as you walk around. With the unfair amount credit card companies charge small businesses, it is only understandable that they need to charge a bit extra per transaction to cover this. I expect this at Ma & Pop stores, and am happy to do it, as I don't want everything to become part of a chain. Hopefully the person who felt the need to leave a bad review for this wonderful little place over this small but necessary charge reconsiders. read more

These guys are great. The service is always top notch, and the belly buster submarine is the best sub you will ever have. A neighborhood business with a special touch. Do you frequent the Grosse Pointe Communities? Do you like oddly located party stores? Do you have an affinity for hand made italian subs? WELL DO I HAVE THE PLACE FOR YOU! I am a huge lover of italian sandwiches. If it's on a menu, I order it. When I moved to the East Side, I was told that Bommarito's is the quintessential italian sub location. While I thought they were good, they were not on the top of my list. Cut to visiting a friend for her birthday. There was a party sub calling my name in the corner. As I approached it I noticed something strange. I've never encountered this sub before. Now it really doesn't look any different than any italian sub, the delicious scent it gave off told me that I was in for a treat. I took myself a slice and immediately fell in love. I ran to my friend to ask her, "Hey friend, where is this sandwich from? This is amazing!". "Mister A's Party Shoppe on Mack" she replied. And that my fellow Yelpers, is the story of where I found the 2nd best Italian Sub I have ever had in my life. But in all seriousness, this place is great. Each sub has hand sliced to order meats, fresh bread, and toppings. They have a a nice variety of other foods from their deli counter as well. The food is great and extremely well priced. My only complaint is that if you don't spend more than $20 on your credit/debit card, they charge you an additional $1 on your order. Seems a little ridiculous, but I guess I'll just call it the Sub Tax, which when put that way, makes it a little bit better. read more

When I moved to the area, I was so glad to have a corner store. The workers are all extremely friendly and helpful. They have a large selection of pops in glass bottles, including Coca-Cola made with real sugar. Most notable is their fresh baked bread. It has knocked Bommarito's down to #2 in my book. It is simply amazing. Whenever we have dinner guests, they always mention how great the bread is. When we tell them its from the corner, they can't believe that a small party store makes such wonderful bread. It is definitely one of Grosse Pointe's best kept secrets. read more

Sure it's a party store, but have you tried their subs yet?!?! They are made to order on fresh seeded buns with Italian meats, simple toppings, and plain ol' tastiness. Pay with cash because they are inexpensive and want to keep it that way. Now that hubband and I are expecting, I'm "not allowed" to eat lunch meat -- was craving Mister A's subs so badly but will have to wait many months to satisfy that craving... read more

Unnecessarily rude. Went to this place to grab a sandwich and a few other items while on my lunch break. I noticed the cashier charged me an extra 50 cents on my bill because I was using a debit card. I initially didn't notice the small sign that read they require you to spend upwards of $20 to avoid this extra 50 cent fee. So I asked the cashier why she was charging me another 50 cents, and she said that it cost her to process my debit card payments, and that cost was being passed on to me. I am aware of many establishments that use this minimum transaction fee, but I'm also aware that those charges go against the agreements they sign as vendors with the card issuers. And I made her aware that I knew this to be true. The cashier asked me, what would I do if she said that she charged me extra just because she wanted to? To which I replied, I wouldn't be patronizing the store again if that were the case. As I said in the beginning, being unnecessarily rude. The bottom line is this, the 50 cents is inconsequential, but the practice of forcing your customers to pay extra to use either a credit card or debit card, while not illegal, is forbidden by the cardholder agreements these businesses sign in order to process your transactions. And to be rude and antagonistic to a customer for being aware of this is counterproductive. I didn't appreciate the way I was spoken to, or treated while patronizing this place, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone in the future. read more

Love this place, been going there for 40 years. When Vince is not there, the friendliness drops a bit. "Must wear a mask" should be enforced, a guy walked in, the clerk did the right thing asking where his mask is, guys said I don't have one, but just want to order some subs. He let him come back. I get this is hard for small businesses but in these crazy times, people will abandon a store if policies are not followed. read more
