What do I say. The service is TOP NOTCH. Best waiter EVER. He was completely out of everything but still made it work, he made us a special dessert since they were out of pistachio ice cream, so he used what was left of it and mixed it in with some kind of vanilla, and served it with love. We love coming to Mongers' to explore new ingredients, meats, cheeses, treats, and drinks. This location is bigger and has more items than the Detroit location, but we love visiting both. You can order your food at the counter, sit at one of the tables near the front windows, and they'll bring it out to you. It always smells amazing from the grilled cheese sandwiches and other food they're making. Service is always great; the staff is ready and willing to help answer any questions and/or recommend whatever you fancy. I appreciate that they have gluten free options. I love the Flaming Fig grilled cheese with the Tomato Soup and olives, while my boyfriend really likes their GTO. There is a restaurant connected where you can get some more options and drinks, so we'll have to try that, too! It's closer in location to me and offers seemingly everything the Midtown Detroit location does, but is even bigger of a space, so offers even more! The walls are filled with different drink selections to peruse and is especially great for extremely unique food and drink gifts! The staff are knowledgeable, I was looking to find a gift for someone and was very specific in what I was looking for and they were able to point me in the right direction! The location here in Ferndale it's just a kiosk inside the Rust belt market building. It's very small and it's maybe a quarter of the stack and variety of the bigger location in Detroit. The pictures from the Ferndale location on the Yelp is deceiving. Keep in mind the Ferndale location is only a small kiosk. There is a smaller variety of cheeses and chocolates. Visited Mongers' Provisions recently (not the first time), and was motivated to Yelp this interesting business. Similar to Zingerman's (another favorite) in its wide selection of unusual food items - both fresh and canned - Mongers' carries cheeses from unusual locations, and beverages that were completely new to us. We split a Wagyu pastrami Reuben, with chips and 2 different drinks from the aforementioned unusual selection. As a side, we could choose either gherkins, olives or dried apricots - we got the latter: a different side for a pastrami sandwich, but one that worked well. Seating was limited, but we were able to find a table. They had tomato as the regular soup: we passed on that one. A second soup is usually offered, but was not this time, as it was a holiday weekend. For beverages, I chose a lemonade from Italy, while the co-diner got a flavored water from a different purveyor than he had encountered previously. Prices were on the high side, but by splitting the sandwich, we were satisfied and didn't break the budget. A roomier dining area opens at 5 pm, and the menu is much more extensive at that time of day. This place is worth a try for the adventurous eater, for whom a drive to A2 might be a bit too far. read more

First the staff had to go back to the kitchen to get answers for questions about cheeses, charcuterie, and wines. Between CV19 and a recent surgery, I just couldn't get out of the house to plan or do anything special for my husband. Mongers' Provisions came through for the win, however. Their "Virtual Father's Day Meat Up" was just the kind of activity we enjoy, but in a safe and convenient way. I ordered the charcuterie & cheese tasting online, along with a few extras. The package arrived on time and was thoughtfully packed. The online tasting, led by co-owners, Zach Berg and Will Werner was both educational and entertaining. These guys really know their stuff! There are a handful of grilled cheese sandwiches that are super affordable at $9-$12 for a huge sandwich and side. My coworker and I tried two and each was perfectly grilled, filled with tons of quality ingredients and strangely the perfect size. We each chose the cornichons as our side and the salty crunch broke up the rich creaminess of the sandwiches. The French onion soup grilled cheese was heavenly - rich and complex! What a great place! I had asked for recommendations in the local area for a place that specializes in charcuterie. While most people suggested another charcuterie company, one person mentioned Mongers, and I'm so glad they did. What stood out for me was that I could walk into this shop and actually see the products. This was my first time making such a purchase, and I don't typically consume items that go on a charcuterie board. However, I was buying it for someone who had a family funeral to attend. The young man assisting me was fantastic. He even showed me photos on his phone of charcuterie boards he had created at various price points, which was incredibly helpful. When I picked up the order the next day, it exceeded my expectations. To top it off, they gave me a little goodie bag. Heard about this place on Fox Detroit in the am. They have a location on Cass in Detroit and a new place here in beautiful downtown Berkley! Took a ride there yesterday, just to check it out. What a pleasant surprise! It's conveniently located on the South side of 12 Mile Road between Coolidge and Greenfield. There is parking in the front and in the back with entrances for both. They will cut the cheese to order and do they know their cheese and what wines to pair. Nice selection of wine, by the way. We also picked up some thin sliced meats for charcuterie.
