We tried the Sugar Bar on a Saturday morning. The interior is really cute; I loved the colors and artwork/decor. You order food at the counter, and then sit at one of the tables. They call out your order when it's ready. We ordered a couple of breakfast sandwiches, some donuts, a chai tea and some breakfast tea. It bothered me that the prices for the donuts weren't listed anywhere. The rest of the items were, but I really feel everything should be listed. The donuts were fabulous. They were yeast donuts, and they were nice and squishy. The glaze was great on the glazed donut and the chocolate filled donut was great too. The sweetness of the filling was perfect, not too sweet but sweet enough. They fall short on their breakfast sandwiches and bagels. I ordered an everything bagel for mine. There was no salt flakes or garlic on it; I didn't taste any kick. The egg patty on the sandwich was so thin I couldn't barely taste it. There also wasn't enough bacon on it. I was really disappointed because The overwhelming flavor I tasted was just a plain bagel. The chai tea latte was also disappointing. There was absolutely no sweetness to it, or kick from the spices that are usually in chai. It just kind of tasted like warm milk. Overall I will definitely go back to the sugar bar because the pastries were amazing. I just won't order a breakfast sandwich or bagel. read more

Meh. I don't even know what watery coffee I was given when it was supposed to be an iced latte. If you don't make your own baked goods your coffee should be better, but it wasn't! Customers are what makes your business. I thought it was just me, but I observed the women working there continue they're personal conversation as I walked in so I was left standing there without even a hello initially just waiting till they finished their conversation. Sure enough next customers come in, they just continue talking about this and that as the customers stand there waiting?? read more

Walking in to the unassuming cafe, you are met with cute bakery case. However the rest of the restaurant seems like the shop owner stopped off at ikea and bought the clearance bin. The store is a facade for pre-packaged goodies and baked goods from an off site source. I asked if the donuts were made on-site and was told everything came in from a bakery in Sterling Heights. I waited a long time for my coffee that tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. My friend ordered an overprice shake ($7?!?!) and it made her sick. The staff seemed disorganized, cold, and unfriendly. I would skip this stop. read more

This place just opened and appears to only be half ready to receive customers. My wife and I work from home so we like to venture to different local spots to get out for lunch. We were so excited to try The Sugar Bar but were immediately put off with the food and service we received. I know times are tough right now but there is a high school across the street. You would think during the lunch rush that there would be more than two people working. We waited in a long line and were surrounded by loud high schoolers who were walking all over the place and swearing. I know the owners can't control everyone. However, I was surprised to see 2 students walking behind the counter at one point to grab food and beverages. They were in the way, and the whole scene seemed comical... especially since so many people were waiting to be served. I hope the kid knew the owner or something because one helped themselves to a bagel with no gloves on. If you go here, DO NOT order a bagel because you won't know who has touched it. I went In with my wife and instantly felt self conscious as we neared the register. We are used to looks in public but this experience took it to another level. The woman who rang us up gave us a once over and seemed to judge us with her glance. Her tone was rude and it seemed that she couldn't get us out of the establishment fast enough. I know that we are a lesbian couple and can sometime be met with the judgement of others. We've been married for three years now and are used to looks but you could just tell, this lady was judging us. I was embarrassed and wanted to leave but we were already standing right at the front of the line, and we didn't want to cause a scene by walking out. I am a coffee snob-- so I went with my usual. Medium coffee with a splash of almond milk. However, they only had creamer at the coffee station so I was stuck with black coffee. I would be nice to have some non-dairy options for vegan folks. However, I wish I had ordered something else because the coffee tasted like sludge. It was disappointing since the coffee aroma when we walked in was nice. My wife ordered a hibiscus tea mixed with lemonade which sounds great... However, the floral taste was overpowering to the rest of the drink. I also watched the worker mix in lemonade and add some type of extra syrup, which I'm assuming was more sugar. The drink was so overpoweringly sweet, we had to ditch the drink before we even walked out the door. I dumped my coffee soon after. If you want a warm and welcoming environment, I would not stop at The Sugar Bar. Especially when the high school is out for lunch. read more

Nice new addition to the community! They have a good range of coffee drinks , and desserts. They carry Bagels , and subs as well. The subs are cold but a nice addition for school kids in the area. The homemade desserts are excellent. So far our experience has been very positive. read more

Cute interior with lots of sitting spaces! Lots of donuts for sale, all looked incredible. Staffed by teenagers who are friendly! Plenty of milk options for specialty beverages. I got an iced latte with 2%. It was good but a little on the weak side. Pretty pricey establishment, but not too much more than what you'd pay at Starbucks. Location is prime, right across from GPS, with a library around the corner and a couple little markets in the vicinity! read more

I had this spot in my radar, I heard different things about it. So we visited on a Saturday before they closed. First impression was really good. Such a cute cozy place to have some goodies! I loved the decor!! We were greeted upon entry which I liked. We ordered the everything Bagels with crème cheese. I originally went for donuts; however, they didn't have many. I'm sure that was due to it being close to their closing time. Ok back to the bagels.. they were smaller than the bigger chain bagels.. but they were Delicious.. fresh, tasty and filling!!! The only thing I was missing was the egg and meat. These were really good bagels and I had an everything! Since I'm big on Customer Service, the only thing lacked was the young lady that gave me my food forgot to close out the visit! I think that it's very important to Thank your guests.. especially new visitors. I will definitely return to try other stuff on the menu. read more

I love this place! I've been twice since it opened and am planning to go back today. The donuts are great, the house-made desserts rock (love the brownie and the tiramisu!) and the coffee is great. I watched a male employee drop my sandwich on the floor, the sandwich came at least 1/3 out of the bag to the point that he had to shimmy the food back in the bag, he then picked it up and handed it to me. I have a thing about the floor because I work in healthcare. I asked for another sandwich, the cashier asked him to remake it. I don't play with my food. No way that the same person who committed the atrocity would handle my food again. I then asked for a refund. The owner or manager responded aggressively, literally yelling at me first calling me a liar then attempting to justify the man unapologetically dropping my food on the floor. I have never been so disrespected by an owner/manager of an establishment. I don't want to assume that she was so rude because I am a black woman but it feels like the only variable seeing how she has so many glowing reviews. I am also very proud of myself for maintaining my cool despite her vile and trifling customer service. If you are a dog this is the place for you. read more

Really nice decor inside and all of their pastries and bagels are displayed in a pretty glass case. I ordered a chai tea and sprinkle donut. The chai tea was unfortunately not good....it tasted like warmed milk like they forgot the spice completely. I wouldn't order it again especially for the price. The sprinkle donut looked great (the employee at the counter mentioned they just changed the colors over for spring) but it was so dry almost like it had sat out in the air too long. Really disappointed in the drink/food quality so I hope this place lasts as it would be such a nice addition to the community. read more
