I don't enjoy shopping so the very knowledgeable staff was so helpful to make my purchase speedy and easy. They took the time to show me edging styles for my backsplash and find the best color of grout. I was very happy that they took the time to show me my tile with the metal edging our tile parson suggested as compared to matching a matching pencil edging that was available for my tile. I was so pleased that they took the time to educate me and make a decision I was happy with. I ultimately chose the matching edging vs the metal. I had purchased tile from Mission Tile when I remodeled my bathrooms and my fireplace, so when I had a "tile emergency" they were my first and only stop. I had ordered tile in Hawaii for a remodel there and, due to a design change, came up short on my accent tile. The tile is made by a California company, so I was hoping I could get more very quickly and then ship it to Hawaii. (It takes much longer when things are ordered on the island and shipped to Hawaii.) I checked Mission Tile's website and they carried the brand. I was not surprised as they have a great selection. I got to Mission Tile when they opened the next day. Trace was behind the desk and I explained the situation. He understood the urgency and checked to see if the tile was immediately available. It was. He told me the cost per square foot and warned me of the high cost to ship it overnight. It was worth it to me, so Trace got the information he needed and said he would get on it right away. I got a call before noon the next day letting me know my tile had arrived. I went right down to pick it up. Trace checked the tile with me to verify it was correct, then re-sealed the box it had been shipped in, since I was heading straight to UPS to ship it to Hawaii. In the past, Mission Tile was excellent when I was engaged in a longer process of tile selection. They had numerous options and I was able to take samples to see them in place at home. Beautiful showroom, very knowledgeable and professional staff - willing to go the extra mile! Since moving to Santa Cruz County, I have always heard Mission Tile is the best - they did not disappoint. I did go to a few other stores here and back in Santa Clara County - but truly easy to choose Mission! I stopped by the store probably 4 times before making my kitchen backsplash tile selection - and primarily worked with Julia, who helped me make smart, pretty choices, order samples and do the final order. I feel like a practically lived at this store the last 6 months while choosing tile and countertops for a whole house remodel. I (like many) scoured many other tile stores around the Bay Area (heck, I even visited the Tabarka studio in LA!!! )- but I ended up finding everything I wanted/needed/loved right here. Every single person at Mission Tile was kind, patient, and attentive every time (and there were A LOT of times ) I came in. They were quick to give samples, advice, and ideas when needed, but were also cool with letting me browse unbothered if that's what I needed to do. I commend the team at Mission Tile for their hard work at aiming to please customers and for the amazing selection of tiles. After scouting stores in Santa Cruz and San Jose, I ended up finding the perfect tiles for my kitchen remodel at Mission Tile. I was in the store on several occasions, speaking with different staff including Trace and Julia to get their opinion and explore my options. All were knowledgeable and patient. I finally ordered 2 different tiles after being allowed to take home several samples. I special ordered a tile coming from Austria. I was warned it would take several weeks but Jim kept me current on the order. The tiles arrived, were installed and so beautiful that I took photos and shared them to be posted on Instagram. RUN AWAY!!! I would give zero stars if I could. Rude, unhelpful staff (the owner is the absolute worst of the lot--unsmiling arrogance is his default demeanor). I am working on a full remodel of our home and was planning on purchasing all of my tile here, but after purchasing the first lot for one room while I was still choosing my other tiles, I was so utterly turned off by the "customer service" that I just got the names of all the other tiles I was interested in and bought them either online (for 1/2 the price) or other stores (2/3 the price). To sum up: Mission Tile is more expensive than everywhere else and you get the rudest, most unsmiling service ever. Someone needs to remind them that WE the customers are paying their pay checks. I also see that I am far from the only customer who feels this way about their "service". Again: give this place a big swerve or else just use it to get your tile names (I would say ideas but I was never offered any help---the tile that I bought I found myself) and buy them elsewhere. read more

We really wanted to support a local tile shop with our remodel so we came here a few times for help to pick out tile. The lead man behind the desk is very rude and was always annoyed with us anytime we asked a question. He would just refuse to help us and send us over to talk to someone else. He doesn't seem to care about regular folks coming in and it felt like he just wanted to work with dealers and contractors. They should hide him away in an office because he's just not a friendly fella. The rest of the people in there were nice and helpful enough. I started by going to Home Depot. I looked for an "impregnator." Sounds like a hilarious nickname. But, it is a treatment for natural stone so that it doesn't absorb stains. Anyhow, my husband and I wandered around Home Depot to come to the tinniest section of the store of tile maintenance materials. They all looked the same and were horribly expensive. I turned to my good buddy yelp and found Mission tile. The store was standard on the outside and stunning within... with various tiles on the floor, walls, counter- I didn't look up, but they were probably on the ceiling as well. The store was pretty busy. But, once an associate was available they found my product fast and with a smile. Down the road when I have the funds to remodel I would love to splurge here! read more

I used Mission Tile for a bathroom remodel where the room was tile floor to ceiling. That's a lot of tile! They were helpful when I placed the order and chose the grout color. They supplied the tile in time for the job. Even better, when I had to replace some broken tiles some years after the install, one of the employees plowed through their boxes of old samples (they no longer carried that manufacturer's tiles) and found some replacement tiles for me. And gave them to me for free. That's good business practice! I think some of these negative reviews talking about being ignored in the store, or not feeling that their business was valued, have to do with the laid-back feel of the place. No one is going to do a hard sell on you at Mission Tile, but the flip side of that is you need to let them know when you want attention. Don't wait for these folks to bowl you over with charm, because it's not going to happen. I don't blame the employees at MT for waiting for customers to ask for help. So many people go in to home supply businesses just to look through samples, take photos and notes, and pick the brains of the salespeople...only to buy their tiles elsewhere (online, often) because that was their plan all along. The stores know this. I admit that I go into MT sometimes just to look at all that pretty tile. I come up with tiling plans I can not afford to do at the moment, but I like dreaming about it. Loved the selection, but not the prices. Found similar tile at Floor and decor for 1/3 the price. Was told if I paid an extra $75, I would get my tile within three days, so I paid it. Got my tile a week later, which was the standard delivery time. Was only refunded a portion, $32.... I still have two more kitchens and four baths to do, will not use these folks. read more

We had a very good experience both with the selection of tile available and with customer service. We made a few repeat visits to the store till we finalized what we wanted, and each time were helped immediately by a friendly and knowledgeable associate. Megan really went out of her way to present options and make suggestions while still listening to our own ideas. In addition, she provided samples that we could take home and also texted images of specific tile in different settings to help visualize it installed. FIRST - this is the most expensive tile place in the Santa Cruz area for sure. SECOND - For a place that is selling something they sure don't try to sell it. This company has the worst customer service ever. I felt like I was completely bothering every person in this place by asking to just order tile. I was never offered help to figure the order out. When I did find a sample tile to get to them they treated me like I was asking them to order the moon. Every time I came in the building I had to sit and wait for someone to help me while they all talked on the phone. When I was helped I was treated extremely poorly. The only person in this place that was nice was the gentleman who works in the warehouse that gives you your box of tile. If you don't have to shop here DON'T. I'm fine with waiting my turn but each time was ignored and treated down right rude. First couple trips thought it was a bad day or they were overly busy but honestly there were more staff than customers in there. There's a very large sign on the wall near the counter that says "BE NICE OR LEAVE". This directive is apparently only for customers and not for their sales staff. I had a very small job to complete but it took them a couple of times to get it right. I never received an apology nor was I ever thanked. I ordered some Pratt & Larson tile through Mission and when it finally arrived the color was not what I thought it was going to be. When I spoke to the very helpful people inside they went above and beyond to contact P&L to find out what had happened, and then had extra tile shipped out at no cost to me (the tile I had ordered was supposed to have large color variations but P&L took pains to make it more uniform so held back all the deviant pieces. When they heard I wanted them all they shipped them out!). I really appreciated the promptness that my complaint was handled, and I love how Mission Tile kept me in the loop. The tile ended up being exactly what I wanted once the contrast pieces showed up. One of my orders was incorrectly ordered by them. They finally reordered the tile after 3 days, 6 phone calls and 1 visit. Jim, the manager, did not even turn around when he spoke to me! My husband and I have owned 11 homes between us. My husband is intimately knowledgeable about building and has financed nationally known home builders. When I buy a home, or renovate an existing one, I do my homework. I went into Mission Tile to view their selection of tile and natural stone flooring. I asked what the PEI wear rating was on a particular tile and an older female employee and younger male employee exchanged eye rolls and condescending looks, as they tried to imply I didn't know what I was talking about, since they'd never heard of the PEI rating. I explained that the rating (of 1 to 5) could be found on the boxes of tiles at Home Depot, the woman told me H.D. didn't carry porcelain tile (wrong). The male went so far as to call someone at another store location to prove his ignorance of the rating system. In light of my visit and their staffs lack of knowledge and customer service skills, I've opted to go elsewhere. I went in without a clue. They were extremely helpful, both in guiding my decisions on a stylistic basis and in educating me in the practicalities of tile setting. They provided me a large section of references for tile installers, and even advised me to have the tile guy order to save money (contractors get a small discount). No really I'm just standing here? Then got attitude about pricing, ordering.... Too bad they are one of the only tile shops in Santa Cruz. I wanted to like these guys: nice showroom, helpful staff. However I did have a problem when they went to fulfill my order: The first time, the tile I wanted that they had in their showroom that I selected with one of their designers was not available, so I had to choose another tile at the last minute (Frustrating!) then with my second choice, the tile was ordered, 2 entire weeks went by, then I got a phone call saying my tile was backordered for 8 weeks. So I had to choose a third tile with 5 days to go (stressful). Eventually, we did get the tile but it had to be express shipped and it was not a worry-free experience. This was my first experience selecting and ordering tile, so perhaps it is normal, but in what other business can you basically not do your job, and make money? read more

Great selection of tile, much better than Home Depot. If you want nice, high-end tile this is the only place to go, but they also have great prices and options on a wide variety of tile so you can always get what you want. I remodeled my bathroom and got excellent advice about colors, type of tile and installation, they were patient with my questions as well. read more
