Unfortunately, I did not look at the reviews of this funeral home prior of contacting them. There is no transparency with the director: Laura Singh. They are giving us the running around, not clear with the price, they say we will call you and never do and the day we expect a call, they never call us. Everything has been a mystery with these people regarding the price and dates of service and viewing of the body. This is my first time doing this and it has been a very bad experience with this funeral home. I had a very challenging experience unfortunately. This is my first time going through this process so I didn't know what to expect. It was disorganized (loved one's name misspelled, back to back phone calls when information was forgotten, not respecting stated wishes) and I ended up being very frustrated and upset by then end. I could be mistaken but I was under the impression that I would be able to order death certificates through the mortuary and it turned out not to be the case. read more

It's extremely difficult when we must deal with making arrangements for a family member or Loved one that has passed away. I had to make arrangements for my Father and was the only family member involved in the process. My Mother was hospitalized during this horrible time so I was the one that took care of the difficult situation. It was definitely a blessing that this mortuary had a wonderful person named Michael who assisted me with the paperwork and arrangements. Since my Father was a Veteran and going to be placed in a Veteran's Cemetery there's certain requirements that must be met. Michael helped me with obtaining the proper documentation and he was kind and respectful taking his time with helping me. Michael even helped me obtain an extra flag for my brother and had it encased in a beautiful display box with all my Father's information. My Mother also got a beautiful display case. Mission Mortuary was definitely a God send during a truly difficult time. This is definitely a Mortuary I recommend!! read more

My brother had passed away and not knowing what to do for a funeral service was very stressful for my brother's wife and myself. Thank God for Alexandria(Alex), our funeral coordinator. She was so well organized. Would text and email her with so many question and things I need to do. She was so quick to respond to all my needs. She would go above and beyond at the same time very passionate, professional, and very caring. We need more people like her. Though it is sad to hear of people passing, this place I would definitely recommend. Very nice surrounding and clean place. Even has a reception for those who need it. Mission Mortuary provides vital help during extremely tough times as well as emotional situations. The staff are compassionate and understanding of the difficulties we face preparing for our Loved ones final arrangements. Everyone I met and spoke with here at Mission Mortuary were kind and went beyond the scope of just providing funeral services. My fiance's grandfather passed away and this mortuary was THE WORST mortuary any of us have ever experienced. Here are all my reasons for giving this place a 1 star. 1) This was an open casket. The family was unable to review his body until an hour prior to the rosary per mortuary instructions. His neck was placed far back, making him look very uncomfortable, his nose looked broken, and his hands were placed far below his torso. When we informed the mortuary workers that he looked uncomfortable, they essentially said that it was too late for changes. Even guests made comments to the family about how he looked like he was in pain. 2) Communication- they did not communicate with one another and almost closed the casket when we told them not to. We had to walk up to the mortuary worker and stop her before closing the casket in front of family and friends. They also insisted they were communicating with the churches to find a priest but that was not the impression we were given when talking to the priest that they finally found. Furthermore, once we arrived they told us that the rosary would start an hour earlier; we insisted this could not happen as family and friends were arriving at the expected time. Lastly, we also had to ask for the rosary cards to be passed out! 3) Materials and Set Up- the prayer cards were upside down and the service card had words cut off. The backdrop of the rosery was also a projection of dolphins which no one asked for. This was such a complicated process, especially for a grieving family. It was even more heart breaking and maddening that this was the way a great man was being represented. I hope no other family has to go through this. read more

My mom past away recently and I am sad to say Mission Mortuary really let us down. The woman working there was very nice, but seemed inexperienced and overwhelmed. Flowers that were delivered were never given to us. Prayer cards had the wrong prayer, not the prayer we selected. There were other mistakes as well. Even the priest was disappointed in their work. I would not recommend them until they hire more experienced help. Losing a loved one is hard enough, they need to do much better. read more

I am still saying this, my wife's family had a loved one pass away. Her grandmother had paid for burial services so that her family wouldn't have be responsible for her arrangements. Mission did an old school shake down for more money. Regardless of what they post on my review, the family two days before the funeral moved her arrangements to Bermudez who not only took the original burial services but actually showed us how the money was still there and covered the services. So if you want to be disappointed by a company who will try to shake you down for more money at a time when your grieving, choose Mission they'll make your pain worse. My grandfather passed late last year at CHOMP, from the moment they brought him to the funeral home we were updated every bit of the way. He looked very peaceful in the coffin, at our meeting to go over the service we were asked if we had any items we wanted to bring as "talking points" to the service for guests, were asked about his legacy, and they even let us bring some of his personal items in the days before to set up at the service and it really helped keep things lighthearted. My aunt died a few months ago. She lived in Carmel and had made funeral arrangements prior to her passing. The ¨contract¨ is a joke! It´s a fill in the blank type document, with no real explanation of what is included in anything that is charged for, even though detailed questions were asked. When she passed, her children and I went to the mortuary to make the final arrangements for her viewing and burial. We were dumbfounded when we were told that the viewing and funeral would take at least 10 days because they "had to prepare" her body! 10 days!!!! Not only that, the viewing had to take place before 4:30 because that's when they close and the staff goes home. If we wanted to extend the time, we would be charged almost $1000! We fought that and did get it whittled down to a more reasonable (but totally bogus) amount. On the day of her burial, we were prodded like sheep so that they could keep to their schedule. Never mind the families wishes or feelings. There is no way that we would ever use Mission Mortuary again. So much for caring about the family in their time of need. No caring, no sympathy, no empathy, just more $$$$ for every little thing. Very disappointing for us. read more

We lost our 19 month old son in Feb. 2019. My family and I had previously used Mission Mortuary's services a couple years ago for my Father in Law's passing and it was such a different experience this time around with the new team in place. Paul & Dennis were amazing. They were just amazing and sympathetic, and they both communicated both in a professional way and also a human way. It's hard losing any loved one but because our son was more at the beginning of his life there weren't a lot of policies/pricing set for babies. But they worked with us every step of the way and it was just the best experience we could have had at an extremely difficult time. Their kindness really had an impact on our experience and I cannot be more thankful to them. Sometimes in business what makes the difference is people actually having that awareness in what they are doing and how they do things rather than just trying to make a living. And it was apparent that both Paul & Dennis understood their profession and the care that goes hand and hand with it. read more

Not the place you really want to hang out but when the staff is top notch, knowledgeable and caring it makes the tough times easier. Michael was excellent in all that he did for us and put us at ease. He is highly skilled in his profession. We went back a week or so later and met with Linda for paperwork, who is on par with Michael, extremely skilled in her work and comforting demeanor. My experience with Mission Mortuary was superb! Our mortuary specialist was extremely attentive and personable, ensuring not to push me toward any services I was not apparently interested in. My requirements were that everything would be handled at a minimal cost with no extras, and the specialist was more than happy to oblige. They also provided cell-phone numbers in case I needed to contact them for anything, anytime. They were very flexible with my changing needs and tentative plans for including a Buddhist priest. While we're moving so I can't anticipate needed their services again, I would definitely recommend them to anyone in the Monterey area looking for a good mortuary. read more

Our arranger, Hayley, was amazing! Losing a loved one, especially a parent who died way too soon is one of the toughest things ever. Hayley made it so that we did not have to stress about many details we were worried about. My dad was a veteran who wanted to be placed in the Veteran Cemetery in Ford Ord. I know working with the VA can sometimes be a long and complicated process. But all I had to do was show Hayley my dad's discharge paperwork and she took care of all the other details with the VA. I liked how I had the option to keep in touch with her via email throughout this process. It is a lot easier for me. She was always easy to reach and responded promptly to all the questions I had. My family did not need my dad's funeral arrangements to be an even more stressful time. And what Hayley did for us was amazing. This place really overcharges for the services and products. It is a terrible situation for family members, to be forced to make purchases at such inflated prices when there is time restriction and not too many other options available at the last minute. The people who work here do not know the current state regulations and guidelines either. They made numerous errors on the death certificate, which had to be corrected more than once. Instead of apologizing and properly training their staff, they put the blame on the county clerks. Look elsewhere to provide the final services for your loved ones. read more

It's a strange idea to write a review about a mortuary, but I couldn't stop the idea passing through my mind this past weekend as my family buried my Grandpa. The gentlemen at Mission Mortuary took such good care of my family throughout the difficult process. They were friendly and kind, never trying to upsell or push any product that wasn't needed. They were respectful, but were also able to keep things light-hearted at appropriate moments. They made awesome cookies in the nice lounge area and kept brewing as much coffee as we could drink. I wasn't looking to be impressed but couldn't help but notice all these nice details. They even laminated Grandpa's Obit for us which we really appreciated since none of us would have thought to do so until later. I'm impressed and greatful. read more
