My wife got the brisket sandwich, naturally, and I had the envie for ribs. She got a side of fries to share. The fries were exceptional, but they were not the star of the show. I tasted her brisket, and it was on point! I picked up a rib and saw that I was only holding a bone. All the meat fell completely off! They were absolutely perfect! There were a half dozen sauces on the table, and I dipped the french fries in each, from Texas to West Virginia and all points in between. They were delicious, but I leaned toward Texas. When I rolled up, the first impression screamed "corporate." I had flashbacks of Sonny's BBQ... but this ain't no Sonny's, Son. This food hits harder than a bunker buster. Inside, the vibe caught me off guard--in a good way. Patriotic to the core, with shadow-boxed uniforms, challenge coins built into the tables, and a salute to service everywhere you look. It's clean enough to pass a white-glove inspection, thanks to staff who are constantly sweeping the battlefield of BBQ sauce and crumbs. Counter service? Sharp as a drill team. Friendly, smiling, quick. Exactly what you want when you're hungry and on patrol for meat. Then the food hit the table: chicken, pork, brisket, mac-n-cheese, collard greens--and, as a bonus, hand-cut fries dropped in by the squad. Dropped in here on a spur of the moment, wanting something quick. My first visit. As others have noted; you're greeted upon entering and ordering was quick and easy. Since, i wasn't that hungry, I ordered the smoked cheeseburger. Food was brought to the table. First, i should have ordered their BBQ , as I found the burger, which had a great taste... dry. On hindsight, Im not sure you could actually serve a "juicy" smoked burger, as the smoke would tend to dry out a meat like that. Went to mission bbq for the first time. Had the brisket sandwich. It was "okay" but nothing overly memorable! They really need to cut the meat thinner. It's just too thick for a sandwich. They give a nice amount but definitely need's to be thinner. Service was good but the person at the register who took our order was clueless on what was good or popular. They simply wanted to take the order and move on. The wait staff was very friendly and did have more knowledge of the restaurant. I like the format where you order your meat a la carte and sides or if you want a combo, you pick your meat then add a combo item, which is a side(s) and drink, to the meat. I order the ribs, which you can pick your size. I picked the five bone ribs. Added the XL combo, which is one side (green beans) and a drink. They call your name when the order is ready. The service was excellent where a person comes around making sure you have everything you need. On the table, there's like six different bbq sauces. I tried the first one, and it was tasty. Didn't get a chance to try other sauces since the one selected worked well with the ribs. The meat fell right off the bone and I was able to eat the meat with a fork. The green beans were delicious. My son and his friend had pulled pork and Im sorry but most places have turned pulled pork into a pile of dry shredded meat. I had the fattier brisket sandwich and some baked beans. Greasy, and the beans were as you would expect, sweet and pretty much tasted like canned beans. I am not a fan of the model they have. Order, then go get your drink and sit down. That seems to be the route a lot of places have gone and I don't like it. For a deli or something thats ok but for BBQ I prefer table service. Had the brisket, jalapeño cheddar sausage, mac and cheese, and cornbread. Portions for this meal were small, but the flavor was great. 6 sauces and NC vinegar are available on the table for your bbq and they were delicious. The Mac and cheese was also very good. The thing is, everyone in my party of 5 felt like they had consumed a salt lick about an hour after the meal. We were all desperately thirsty so the sodium content had to be higher than most fast food for all of us to experience this at the same time so just be aware of that if you are sensitive to sodium. 2 out of 5 were satisfied with the food, the others thought their cornbread was dry and meat was too tough, all teens so take what you will from that. If you are hungry, get the sliced turkey sandwich, that meal was much meatier than others by comparison. read more
