We knew what we needed to solve but had to work together to figure out how to solve it so we always had a direction to work towards which was a different experience for me in comparison to other escape rooms. Escape rooms are always different and the best of them have a wide variety of types of puzzles that fit different skillsets of the players and keep them a little off-guard. This was my first escape room experience! This was really neat and really overwhelming. There were three rooms in our experience, two we needed to unlock. We had three people and this made it a little challenging although we only used one clue. They had a few things to throw us off the trail, and had some really neat props. The host of our event was super kind, engaging and helpful when it was time for our single clue. We had photos taken at the end with props which was also enjoyable. Overall I'd check this place out again but might go with a bigger group as three was challenging (we had one very strong member of our team or else we would have failed). read more

I came to this escape room when visiting Minneapolis, and wow, it's a wonderful escape room! We did the ruin raiders game. I can say I am thoroughly impressed with the technological aspect of the game and I always love a good second room situation. The puzzles were fun and interesting. My only caveat was that the room we did was for eight people and I can't help but feel that most people would've been really bored for most of it, because the first few puzzles were very streamlined (basically, only one puzzle available so everyone has to work on the same one). If you and your group are decent at puzzles, I think you should only have 3-4 people in this room, because it'll honestly be too boring otherwise. The gamemaster told us that the final frontier room had more split-up-ability, so maybe that would be the better choice for lots of people :) read more

We did the Ruin Raiders room, and it was fantastic! The hardware in the room and puzzles were challenging, but we never felt 'stuck,' and our moderator (Christina? Kristina?) gave helpful hints that didn't give away the game. We did the room with 3 people who have had some experience doing escape rooms before and managed to finish it within the hour. I will that that the first bit of it was quite linear, meaning that there wasn't a lot of simultaneous puzzling going on... I think if we had the full 8 people, half the group would have been sitting around watching or doing nothing until about 2 puzzles in, when there were simultaneous ones going on and multiple locks being figured out. Our group was told that this is the easiest room, and I suppose we did book the easiest because we only had three people. I think this room is definitely very child-friendly because there's a lot to look at, and it's very visually immersive. I would definitely bring another group of friends back to this location and try some of the other rooms. :) Overall great experience! read more

Booked a reservation at Missing Pieces Escape Games for my Daughter's 13th birthday party. I researched other companies and settled on Missing Pieces in Edina for the location. I booked it well in advance, sent all the Evites out and got confirmation of my appointment for 11:30am on a Saturday. On the day of the event, I asked everyone to arrive 15 minutes early to the venue, for check-in. All six parents of my daughter's friends had come to drop off. It was in the 90's and very humid that day and my guests were forced to stand and wait outside for over 20 minutes, for someone to open up the building and let them in but no one ever showed up for their shift. In fact, the business was supposed to be open at 10:00am that morning, so after an hour 1/2 nobody ever checked that someone opened up their business!! After waiting for what seemed an eternity, my husband called me to confirm the reservation again and he asked me to try to get a hold of someone at Missing Pieces. I called the business number and I only got an automated "run around" that led to nowhere. I finally was able to leave a voice mail message, which I admit was scathing because I was very embarrassed and quite upset. After about 10-15 additional minutes, I finally received a call back from a younger gentleman. The guy told me that they were short staffed (1 of 2 only) and that there was an alleged family emergency. I proceeded to ask, "why didn't anybody call to inform me"? The guy said that he found out only 5 minutes ago, which I call BS on. Since they did not have an adequate explanation and no contingency plan, I had to tell my guests to come to my house instead, which was not ideal. Though he was polite and apologetic,rather than try to come up with a solution, he immediately offered to credit my account, no questions asked. I rather have been given the option to come back later that day or on another day entirely but he never gave me that opportunity. Till this day and it has been several weeks now, have I ever received a follow up call or email, apologizing for their oversight and the inconvenience my guests and I encountered. I am surprised that a small, family owned businesses would conduct their business in such a way and so unprofessional. I wish they would have done the right thing by my daughter, who never had the chance to enjoy this experience with her friends on her birthday. I would not recommend this establishment or frequent it in the future. There are others out there. read more

Went with some family friends. There are 4 different rooms you can choose from. They tell you a story and you have look around the room to get clues and move onto the next room. They give you clues if you ask for them. They give you an hour to finish we did in 54:10. I would recommend it for company parties or fun friends that work well together. I would say the max you want in the room is 8 otherwise you would feel crowed. It's a family owned place. Check it out! read more

I've wanted to try an escape room for so long and our group of 8 had a blast at Missing Pieces. We did the Diamond Dilemma room and escaped with 20 mins to spare! (We had to use 3 clues). Our group consisted of family members so it was especially fun to see how everyone communicated and problem solved differently. The room was big enough to keep everyone occupied searching for clues or other activities. There were a few really fun surprises that we couldn't stop talking about after we had solved the room! We reserved online and when you get to the parking lot it doesn't look like much from the outside but a thrilling adventure awaits you inside! The host took time at the end to answer questions we had and go over the major turning points in our scenario. I love that this is truly a family business- from writing the creative stories, designing/ engineering the rooms, and all the props in between- they treat you like friends and I can't wait to go back to try Ruin Raiders and Cuckoo's Clock! read more

We were in town visiting from California with family living in the area to celebrate my brothers 60th birthday in late April. The best idea came to go do an Escape Room and Missing pieces was it! It was my first Escape Room so I had no idea what to expect. We did Cuckoos Clock and it was so challenging but amazingly fun! Everyone had their thing to find the clues and figure out how to escape. Not only was there one room but the second room iron gate opened when you figured out the first room. So much creativity and clever thinking went into this experience and I appreciate it. My boyfriend and I are avid escape room enthusiasts, so much so that we flew into town just to have an escape room weekend (we're from AZ) in Minneapolis since there are so many rooms there. We have done over 100 rooms so we have seen a wide variety of escape rooms. We did a total of 10 rooms while we were in town and Missing Pieces' Ruin Raiders made it into my top two favorite rooms that we did while in Minneapolis. From the initial contact with Missing Pieces to our last goodbye with them, we had a great experience. Their customer service was on point and they were more than willing to work with our schedule. And our host was extremely friendly and personable both before and after the room. Now let's talk about the room. I'll, sheepishly, admit we didn't have high expectations when we first arrived simply because it is located in an industrial park and it's family-run. Well, I'll be the first to eat my words and say definitely don't judge this book by its cover. Ruin Raiders far surpassed our expectations. The room was very well done with themed puzzles that offered a good challenge. Also, the room was very immersive and just overall quite clever. We came close to asking for a clue but, thankfully, the puzzle we were stuck on clicked for us right before we did so. It was just me and my boyfriend in the room and we were able to escape before running out of time and without using any clues. But it definitely gave us a good run for our money. It wasn't easy. I thoroughly enjoyed our time here and my only regret is that this wasn't one of our first rooms we did while we were in town because we, then, would've found a way to add their other rooms into our schedule. But unfortunately, by the time we did this room we were nearly out of time on our trip so there was no way to fit the rest in. To anyone considering going here, regardless of your experience level, I highly recommend this place and even more highly recommend Ruin Raiders. You won't be disappointed. read more

We had a great time at this puzzle room! The staff was gracious enough to accommodate us at the last minute and get us in tonight. We did the Diamond Dilemma room with a group of 6. This was not our first puzzle room, but we still found it pretty challenging! We did solve the puzzle though, with 22 whole seconds to spare! (With a couple of well-timed hints- thanks!!) The room itself is good sized, and everything worked perfectly. There was plenty of parking in front of the buildings. There were restrooms available. One of the best parts about the whole experience was interacting with the Missing Pieces crew. From the minute we walked in when they greeted us and offered us a water, until we all walked out the door at the end- everyone was so friendly and interesting. They were happy to answer all of our questions and give us a little background on their business. They put up with our rambunctious enthusiasm, joked right back. Family run business, the rooms and puzzles are constructed by the family. It was SO. MUCH. FUN. The staff was kind and respected our desire during the game to avoid hints, but gave us one when we had lost a lot of time on a puzzle. The story was simple but engaging, the puzzles were difficult but not impossible. I can't wait to go again! Also, I really like that there's no minimum. Other escape rooms require you to either have a group or work with strangers--this business allows you to go by yourself/with a partner if you want--you just have to book the room differently. (I don't know if it's more expensive, but I do know that if no one else had been booked for the room, we would have been allowed to try another one right away by ourselves.) read more

The mysteries were tough enough to keep us hopping and puzzling and also laughing and cheering when one of us would figure it out and be the star and then we'd get stumped and another one of us would become the hero/genius. I've done a few escape rooms and would highly recommend this one. It's a family owned business that puts great thought into their rooms and the overall experience. If you have not done an escape room before know that not all are created equal. The props, the story, the flow of the game, the unexpected surprise and the staff make it. This place has it all. I won't give it away but there were a few times I was caught off guard by something that was a cool little addition. Something that the chain places would probably not spend the money on but this place does. The staff is great. They aren't in the room (which is always weird) but they are watching and provide the help when needed. It's the kind of place you want to see succeed. Try it out. I did the Minnesota Gunderson room.
