It was challenging, but not impossible (and they give you unlimited hints, though we only used about 5). Sam our "game master" was very personable and worked to make sure we had a good time. Beautiful Escape Rooms! We've tried Special Ops and The Heist games and both were pretty fun. The only thing I didn't like was that you have to pay so much extra $$ if you want a private session (to ensure no strangers join your group). We gambled by booking rooms last minute that did not have any reservations yet. Heist: we had 4 people vs maximum of 8, and it was a perfect group size. I've tried 4 different Escape Rooms in the Twin Cities area and this one is the most convenient location, inside the Mall of America. Aesthetics (5/5) I love the beautiful attention to detail for each prop. Each room is gorgeous. Puzzle Quality (3/5) Some of the puzzles are more clever than others. But some puzzles seem to just be added without clear alignment with the room theme. Puzzle Amount (5) Good amount of puzzles for the 60 minute game play. Booking Ease (3/5). I bought gift cards from the store. When I tried to book online, it would only apply one gift card at a time. So I had to call (and put on hold) to be able to book all 4 of us using gift cards. But their online system made it easy to see which rooms had existing reservations (so we could try to get our own room). read more

This is by far the best escape room I've ever been to. I've been to several in quite a few different states. I've played four different games and all have been great. This last trip we did the jail and the depths. Our experience was overwhelmingly positive the people working the desk and the game were all insanely friendly. My BF and I are absolutely obsessed with this company! We stumbled upon it at the Mall of America and decided to book a room super last minute. The rooms here aren't private by default, so there's a chance you might be paired with other players. But we asked the staff which room was starting soon and crossed our fingers for a solo run. Luckily, no one else booked, and we scored a private room experience! We chose Cosmic Crisis, and OH. MY. STARS!!! This was hands-down one of the best designed escape rooms we've done this year. The moment we stepped inside, we felt like we'd been transported to an actual spaceship. The screens, the tech, the props, the missions, everything was so polished and detailed! We were completely immersed in the story, and the puzzles flowed smoother than zero-gravity~ There was a moment at the end where we thought we'd need a third crew member to complete a task, and the game master kindly offered to assist us. But we were able to manage!! While it's possible to complete the game with two players, I'd highly recommend 3-4 for the best possible experience. Also, don't be scared to ask for hints to point you in a general direction. You NEED to get to the end of this game! TRUST ME. Bottom line, This game was amazing!!! We loved it. Not your typical lock and key game, but a whole new puzzle escape mission experience. We're already plotting our return to tackle the other rooms. It took us a little bit to get started but the staff is willing to give you helpful clues, and the rooms was set up really well. We did make it out with 9 minutes to spare. I'm not the biggest fan of escape rooms by any means, but the Escape Game Minneapolis in the Mall of America was way more fun than any escape room I've done before! A group of 7 friends and I did the "art heist" themed room, which was very elaborately decorated and just the right amount of challenging. I don't want to spoil too much about the room, but there are 4 different areas, and each one is filled with interactive puzzles and hidden clues. There is something for all 8 people in the group to participate in throughout the room, leaving no one feeling left out or like they aren't contributing. I want to end this review by giving a shout-out to our amazing "game master," Erik. He really was born for this job! He is great at interacting with the players and giving helpful hints that don't reveal too much. He made our experience 10 times better. If it's possible, I recommend that customers request for Erik to run their game. Before you leave, remember to check out all of the Escape Game Minneapolis merch! Buying a t-shirt or a shot glass is a great way to humble-brag about your successful escape, or just as a souvenir to commemorate your trip. We had an amazing experience at The Escape Game on Monday! Julie was our host for Mission Mars, she was great with clues and getting us set up. We lucked out playing with another family with kids similar ages as our kids. The room was really well set up, just the right amount of difficulty for the group of us in the room. We had 8 in the room and it worked out well with space and things for everyone one to do. Very happy to say we escaped with about 10 minutes left! We had been to another location in Grapevine, and played the games they had ... so we we wanted to take the chance to do one of the ones we didn't have there; and mission mars was one that they didn't have in any Texas locations that we would have the chance to visit. Of the escape rooms I've tried the escape game is the best I've experienced, and look forward to trying more of the ones we haven't gotten to do yet! read more

Went for work as a team building activity. It was amazing! We did the prison break one and it really did require us to work together as a team (separately and together) which I really enjoyed. The staff was also great. I've done all of the escape room themes at The Escape Game in the Mall of America, including Gold Rush, Prison Break, The Heist, Special Ops, and Mission to Mars. The Escape Game has consistently been a great spot to go for an escape room. This place is lots of fun! The rooms have the best looking/most authentic/immersive settings that go well with the theme. There seems to be no lack of budget for those rooms in terms of visual appearance. Gold Rush, Special Ops, Prison Break, and The Heist impressed me. Mission to Mars was slightly disappointing, as it was mostly typing in random codes on digital screens the whole time. We escaped with about 15 minutes to spare. It felt too easy and didn't flow too well. The staff has always been friendly and helpful with hints, if needed. I like how there is no hint limit, so you're able to finish the game in the amount of time they give you if you're really struggling. It's nice to have that option JUST in case. The storylines and clues are pretty cohesive and relevant, which makes solving the escape room more fun and solvable, yet challenging enough to make you work for it (except for Mission to Mars, in my experience). The only negatives: It is the most expensive escape room that I've seen before. Also, I'd like to see them add or change room themes every few years. Give us a new storyline and setting-- they've been the same for as long as I can remember. Once you've done them all, there's no need to come back, which is sad because it's a fun place! read more

My 2 teenage daughters and I got paired up with two other groups for a total of 8 participants in the Heist room. Some people think it's a downside to have to play with strangers but I think it's the best part (or maybe we just lucked out and got great teammates). Every single person contributes in some way...some people are more intuitive, others notice every detail, some people are brainiacs. My daughter is creative and thinks "outside the box." It all helps to solve the puzzle and escape! I could see it being a great team building exercise and SO MUCH FUN. I screamed obnoxiously every time we solved another passcode and opened up another clue. It was pricey, I'll admit. For the 3 of us with tax it came to $125. Overall, great experience. The set design was top notch -- you feel like you're in an art museum. Logic and physical puzzles which all flowed very nicely and were not incredibly difficult or too obvious. I played the room with one other person and I think that 4 people would be the max total that I'd play with in this room. The cost was a bit on the pricier side ($36/person, more expensive than most of the rooms in Calif!). Location was easy to find within the mall. I'll would most definitely come back to play their other rooms -- I just wish I lived closer!! Whenever I'm back in MN, I will definitely return to play their other rooms. I will admit - I was a bit arrogant when I entered this place, and thought I'd solve the "Prison Break" in about 30 minutes and the wife and I would be back to our shopping and roaming. Was I wrong! We had a lot of fun! Prison Break is the toughest puzzle and it is very challenging. The clues were cleverly concealed and took a lot of teamwork to figure it out. We were paired with another group of six random people we had never met before, and that made this a bit more challenging. It was their first time too, and some of them seemed to have a mind of their own and made things more difficult than needed. The staff were super friendly and helpful over the course of the game. Our teammates broke a key and messed up a few things; and if this was a real Prison Break, we'd be sent to solitary for the rest of our lives. Overall a pleasant experience. If I lived and worked closer to the MOA, I would certainly make this a team building activity! read more
