Last week, we decided to check out a Venezuelan spot we found on 41, El Tizon Grill. I was excited…read morefor some cachapa, but it left a bit to be desired. We arrived Saturday about 4 for a bite. We grabbed a seat by the door. Our server was friendly. We looked over the menu and decided to to start with some tequenos. We placed our app order while we kept looking for our mains. Our tequenos came out first and looked great. They were served with two sauces that were quite flavorful. We both enjoyed our appetizer. We then placed our order for a chicken salad arepa and a cachapa with picanha steak for our main meals. Our cachapa came out about 5 minutes after we ordered. It looked good, but sadly it was cold. Both the pancake and the steak were cold. It wasn't fresh and wasn't reheated properly. It was pretty disappointing. We waited another 10-15 minutes and our areap came out. Thankfully, this one was hot and prepared correctly. The flavor was good and we both enjoyed it. Overall, our first visit was a bit disappointing. Being served cold and reheated food that wasn't even warm was less than ideal. I don't see us returning.

We were not that hungry, just kinda wanted a quick light meal. We went with two full hot dogs, which we absolutely loved! We also ordered a cheese pastelito which was fully stuffed with cheese Planning to stop by next time we're in town to explore the rest of the menu

Suffice it to say that I've lived here for more than 30 years and my family and I have tried…read moredifferent restaurants and venues around the Sarasota-Bradenton area, but I've never experienced a worst treatment as a customer than in this place! After arriving and sitting down next to a couple of ladies (more about one of those ladies next..) not knowing where to place the order, I have decided to stand up and order what we came to eat "Shawarma" and we were greeted by a person inside the food truck that simply said "We don't take credit card payment here, it is Cash or Zelle" to which I agreed! When trying to make the cash payment I noticed that the Menu only showed ONE (1) price for the Shawarma of $14.99 and various combinations (not well specified) So I asked if one of the combinations could be with chicken & falafel and the person said "ok" but when proceeding to charges me stated that the price would be $42 (for the shawarma and "pepito" of $18.99)...Inmediately the math wasn't adding up! When I asked "why that much" is when the person proceeded to explain that the "falafel" was separate and had an up charge! (Something the person should have said when I asked for that combination instead of waiting until I asked why the short change back)...Not enough with that, when I had ask to just have the one main ingredient instead of the combination (again, up charge Not stated in their menu!). The person still shorted me with the change and said "when you come back for the food I'll give you the rest" (a few more dollars that they didn't seem to have in a venue that mainly accepts cash as a payment option!?)...The worst came after I sat down on the table to discuss all of this with my wife and one of the ladies sitting right next to us and that seemed to be one of the owners, started eavesdropping and proceeded to bully us, raising his voice in anger about "taxes being charged" and with her hands up in the air wouldn't even respond to when I had asked her "who she was and why was she getting in the middle of our conversation" she kept flailing and raising her voice! At this point I thought she couldn't have been the owner since what kind of business owner would act this way to customers without ever asking "what seemed to be the problem?" At least! Instead when I said that the person inside the food truck had made me come back a few times for my right change she responded with her hands flying up in the air that she didn't care and that wasn't important! My wife begged me to leave by how horrendous that scene was! I picked up the food and decided to ask for my receipt and there it was besides the local taxes charged a POS charged when I had payed cash and no POS was used! At least none in front of me!....Business owners should never treat customers this way! Maybe is a cultural thing or not but not in the US! Worst experience of my life at a place to eat!

Food is very good. It's different from what I'm used to eating. The price is too pricey but it is…read morehot and good

Such an amazing place in Sarasota. My partner is Dominican and we have been to the Caribbean…read morecountries a good bit. We were visiting Sarasota and stopped in to grab some late dinner to go. (Para Levar... my tiny bit of Spanish!). Luckily, my partner is fluent and it helps a lot whenever my Español es muy mal. We checked out the reviews and as a long time Yelper my experience told me that some of the bad reviews were not something we would worry about. It's really interesting considering the place is really authentic. Everything we had was delicious. The only tiny thing I would change is a little less garlic in the mojo on the boiled yuca but that's a personal preference and most people would probably love it! I'd ask for it on the side next time. They have a special lunch and dinner every day and I got the special for $9.99. Picadillo with 2 sides (I got boiled yuca and black beans). I added some maduros. My partner got pork chops with 3 sides. Salad, morro rice, and maduros. He also got a tamarind juice which is one of his favorites. While we waited they brought us both a cup of homemade chicken soup. It was delicious. The vibe is so Latin and that's a compliment. I could feel the love and felt so welcome. It was like hanging out at a family party with yummy food. They had karaoke with everyone singing Latin tunes. I barely understood a word but loved it and they had some really good vocalists! The food was delicious! We couldn't finish it all. I had lots of green olives in my picadillo! If we lived in this area we would be eating here every week or several times a week! I only passed on the Mofongo because I was worried I'd fill up fast and didn't want to waste so much food. If I were here a few more days, I'd be going back to try it. If I come back to Sarasota, I'm adding them to my must visit list! Thank you Latin Quarters' staff and the fun patrons for helping make my last night in Sarasota a lovely one!

The food was incredible - great reasonable prices, LARGE portions, perfectly seasoned and so authentic. The ambiance was great too - cozy and friendly. I've gone to more expensive restaurants and the food was not as tasty as this. We had the Sancocho, Pastelon, Bistec encebollado, the Canoa as appetizer. They bring you plantain chips and a cup of soup to start your meal. That soup was so amazing and unexpected. What can I say, the food was so good, the wait staff was so nice.... Will definitely be back!
