Salvadorean Tamal
Rachel M.

What a great place to find Salvadoran food in Sarasota. Love pupusas which are corn pancake like stuffed with cheese, veggies, & or pork etc. served with the Cole slaw. It's so good and for something that seems so small and simple it is so good and filling. I also had a Salvadoran tamale. They have the Mexican ones and sweet corn ones as well. The diff is the one I had is not spicy and it had chicken potatoes and carrots. The Mexican one is spicy. My husband had their sopes which he really enjoyed. This food was pretty popular bc the whole place as packed and many orders also to go. Soccer is on the TV and some El Salvador decs on the wall. The people working are very nice and you can speak to them in English or Spanish. Great Place for awesome Salvadoran and Mexican street food for a cheaper price!

This is one of the only spots in town where you will find pupusa's. This place is always packed and the food is always hot and fresh. This is a definite must try. If you were in the area you will not be disappointed.

Loved the tamales prepared in various styles. Very tasty. Good breakfast selections

Delicious great food and service. Came Sunday afternoon it was busy with people waiting for Togo food but we were able to order right away . Ordered at the counter and they brought the food to our table. I had bean pupusa since I have a cheese allergy. I like the curtido too. Had a taste of both types of tamal and they were really yummy. Small dining area with a handful of tables but everyone seemed to fit fine. Nice staff, thanks, we'll be back!

Papusa, sope and tamale

Bitia's is fantastic ! The prices are incredibly reasonable and the portions are great. The food is all home made. They offer papusa, sope, tacos, quesadillas, soups and more. You can choose from several options. Among them are Carnitas, Barbacoa, chicken, carne asada and more. I haven't ordered the soups yet but I'm told they are huge. The seating only holds approximately 25 people but they are great for takeout. You will definitely enjoy Bitia's and the great value it represents.

Carnitas tacos no onions

Woot hoot this place is amazing. It was full of customers around 11am and plenty more coming thru the door. Great selection of meats to create a taco, burritos, sopas and/or platters. I got 2 carnitas tacos no onions they are filled with a lot of carnitas. The love is definitely added to their food. The tacos were delicious. Side note I had my dog with me and it would have been nice if there was seating outside.

If you're in the area you HAVE to try Bitia's Taqueria. They do offer a sit down if you want to dine in and there's a parking lot. The tacos themselves were so full of meat and toppings and flavorful. I am still drooling as I think about Bitia's taqueria. I will have to go back when I go back to Sarasota, Florida again. Service was fast we only waited less than 10 minutes for our food and the ambiance is a very homey feel inside. I tried the pupusas because of all the reviews I read, but I don't think I would get it again. The horchata was $3-4 and came in a huge unexpected cup, was really good as well.

Best Sope I've had in my life

Great space, service is always welcoming and top notch! Their food is fantastic, I live their Sopes and Tacos de Carne Asada, my husband loves their Sopa de Mariscos.

Pork and Cheese Pupusa

My first Pupusa My wife came up with the idea of having dinner at Bitia's and I scrambled to figure out what I would order. Yelp reviews raved about their Pupusas, what was a Pupusa? I finally decided they were like Arepas, which I'm not fond of, but I must try one anyway to review. Turned out it was similar to Arepas but the tortilla was slimmer and while there wasn't a great amount of pork and cheese filling, there was enough. It came with a container of pickled cabbage. Actually, I think I liked it because I was having fun trying to eat it with my hands like I saw on Youtube videos. It was so hot, think melted cheese inside, I couldn't hold it to pinch some of that pickled cabbage. I was using a knife and fork to construct my bite of food, then used my fingers to feed myself. What a newbie. I also tried 3 tacos. Inexpensive but small, made of the meat of my choice, cilantro, and chopped onion. Limes were included to squeeze on some juice. I don't often eat Mexican tacos either and missed having cheese included.

Las pupusas son grandes. Los tacos mexicanos auténticos. Los precios razonables. El lugar es limpio y pequeño pero vale la pena esperar.

No fancy décor, no overdone plating--just honest, soul-warming food the way abuelita would make it. We ordered a few pupusas revueltas and they were thick, cheesy, and crispy at the edges--just how you want 'em. Each bite was loaded with flavor, and they didn't skimp on the fillings either (respectfully, some of y'all out there are serving tortillas with trust issues). The curtido came bagged up and packed with crunch and tang--exactly what you need to cut through that melted cheese goodness. Prices are humble, portions are generous, and while it may be a small spot, the flavors are huge. Whether you're a pupusa purist or just learning what curtido even is--this little cafeteria deserves a big spot on your food map. Bonus points: you'll leave full, happy, and maybe even planning your return trip before you've finished your last bite.

Plus you can see their selection baked goods. I looked at the menu prior and had a sense of what I wanted. I started with the Pastelito de Pina. First time ever hearing about this. It's solid. The crust was sugar coated and unique. The pineapple filling was smooth with a sweet texture. I mainly came to get the pupusas and try Salvadorian tamales. I got a bean & cheese pupusa and chicken tamale. When I open up my pupusa, instant cheese pull. And it was pretty good. They provide some kind of slaw on the side. I put the slaw and some hot sauce on top...creating the PERFECT bite. I tried some of my sisters shrimp pupusa. Personally I wouldn't order that but it was tasty and flavorful. I've never had a proper tamale so the chicken tamale was my first. The texture is really smooth and light. With seasoned shredded chicken all through out. For my first tamale, it was good. I also tried the fried tamale and it was a whole different story. The exterior was crispy and dark in color. Inside it was sweet with a corn taste. I was like wow. They paired it with a white sauce that was really good. Making me think of sour cream and cream cheese in one. We brought back a tres leches and flan home. The Tres leches was really good. It wasn't soggy and held up well. The flan cake was good but the sugar juices on the bottom tasted burnt. Which was distasteful. Service was okay. I felt like it could've been better. They weren't disrespectful or anything. If our server was new or having a bad day my apologies.

At the end, one lady came with a portable card reader without even bringing a bill first -- she just said 'it's $93.' When we asked for the check, they took a long time to come back. When she finally did, she gave us $5 back saying she had overcharged for the pupusas. However, after reviewing the prices listed on the menu, the total was still incorrect. I pointed it out, and she admitted the system prices are different and not updated to match the menu, but said she couldn't do anything about it. I reminded her they should honor menu prices, but she simply said 'yes, but I can't.' Very unprofessional and honestly felt sneaky. We will not be returning. Make sure to double-check your bill carefully! No volveremos. Asegúrese de revisar bien su cuenta antes de pagar.
