We chose to have lunch at Casa Maya after church! We arrived and were seated right away. We love the chips and salsa that they always give the table. We ordered 3 taco salads-one beef and two chicken-and one steak quesadilla. The food comes quickly and is always served hot! They have one of the best taco salads around! There were other diners that came in but it wasn't so busy that it got too loud. This is one of our favorite places to go-lunch or dinner-you're never disappointed! read more

We were in the area and thought we'd give this place a try. The sweet tea took a while to get to us and it wasn't sweet and just wasn't good, but I'm kind of a tea snob. I ordered coke instead. The food wasn't bad but wasn't up to standards you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant. I had the Burrito Asada, it came out looking good. However, the Green sauce had more of a sweet tangy flavor than most, the pico, guacamole and sour cream on the side weren't nearly enough to cover the burrito. My wife had the Tacos Al Pastor, the chicken had a lot of fat pieces, and it had flavor of pineapple but didn't have any pineapple in the taco. The queso dip tasted like a powered cheese or something. We love queso almost anywhere we go and this one left a lot to be desired. We picked around what we didn't want and ate the rest. The steak in my burrito was pretty good. Our waiter did offer to remake the tacos since he saw my wife took the onions off, but that was our fault for not asking for no onions. We didn't have them remake anything but wanted to point out that the waiter did seem to care about the quality of food and provide a good service. While it wouldn't be our top choice for places to eat in this area, we would give them another try as it seems they are working to better their restaurant, based on past reviews. I ordered mac and cheese off the kids menu. which i do everytime i come here and it has never been a problem. today i come in so excited to get my ten dollar mac and cheese and right after i ordered it the lady goes "i have to charged you more cause you are not a kid" so then i start worrying how much it was gonna be because im a teenager and i only brought 15 bucks with me cause i knew it was going to be under 15 dollars. so when the check came out to 17 dollars i was very upset because i had to then ask my parents to send me more. charging me 7 more dollars for the same size portion is crazy! let me order from the kids menu if i want to. i have never been to a place that charged me more cause i wanted to order from the kids menu. so if u are over ten and want to order from the kids menu be ready to pay more! this really pissed me off read more

The food was very good, all 3 of us enjoyed our meals. I had the burrito asada with steak and it was delicious (I wish I had taken a picture but I was super hungry). The service is terrible, that's why I took the stars off. In the hour we were here we were not offered more water, chips, or even acknowledged really. We sat here with empty glasses pretty much the entire time. I'm not sure if I'd come back, that's how bad the service was. The food was great but terrible service is a deal breaker for me. read more

After a good first visit, we stopped in again for dinner and did not have a good experience at all. Service was almost non existent. From placing our order, it took 35 minutes for our order to start coming out one plate at a time. Slowly. Our group came to dine together, so don't dribble out our order one plate at a time! So, some of us had cold food sitting in front of us while others were still waiting. And the food was bland, all the Cholua sauce didn't help. I had a disappointing Casa Maya burrito with pork. At some point we'll probably stop in again, but not anytime soon. read more

Stop here for lunch with my son who loves Mexican food. This places exceeded our expectations. The server was super helpful and friendly. My son had some question about an item he was thinking of ordering. After speaking the server she was able to recommend a few items. He selected the burrito ahigado and he loved it. If there weren't so many birds stalking the chips, it would be more pleasant to sit at their outside tables. Food is pretty average, probably wouldn't go there again. Dry corn chips with a bland weird salsa. Chimichanga wasn't bad, but the portion was smaller than we're used to at other Mexican restaurants. Burrito Ahogado was also not bad, but not great, either. I am writing this review sitting at this restaurant on a beautiful (but not busy) night, but totally disgusted. It took unusually long for our food to arrive but we were ok with that because we were enjoying talking. The food arrived clearly (visually) ice cold. It took minutes for the waiter to come back to even find out how things were. I told him my food was ice cold. He picked it up and disappeared before my husband was able to tell him that his was ALSO cold (which would make sense since they were made together)! The food & plate came back hot but was the most awful chicken I've ever had. Tough, stringy and the mole was like jelly. Wait never came back and inquired and service in general was awful. Will NEVER come back here. They think they can get away with inferior service and food because they're in Lakewood Ranch?? Please don't support this place. read more

I've been happily going to casa Maya for months now as a vegan patron and I feel compelled to share this evenings experience while dining with them. Casa Maya has a vegetarian menu and so I've always been diligent to ask them to remove any dairy from their vegetarian items - usually easy enough. When I started visiting Casa Maya months ago, I was told by the waitstaff that the refried beans were completely vegan (no dairy)... so for months I've been ordering and consuming the refried beans only to find out this evening that they actually are cooked with chicken stock. Even though I was completely upset about this and surprised, I calmly and kindly asked for regular black beans instead and then also asked the waitress to make sure there wasn't any dairy on my veg enchiladas. When the order came out to the table it was covered in cheese. No biggie - I reminded them I asked for no dairy and they took it back to the kitchen. They returned with another plate and I started eating that one, only to realize there was still bits of cheese in the dish and that the kitchen had literally just scraped the cheese off of the enchiladas and returned the dish to me. Now thankfully, I don't have a dairy allergy, but I felt the need to leave this review in case someone with an actual serious allergy decides to visit Casa Maya. They don't take their vegan patrons or those with potential allergies seriously and they don't appropriately educate their staff on the ingredients in the food. I don't feel like I can trust this establishment to prepare a fully dairy and meat fee dish for me in the future and have unfortunately lost a loyal former customer. read more

We really liked this place for a variety of reasons, whether it be a great menu, friendly staff, or a pretty "chill" area to eat at. On our visit, the service was on point. My beer was never empty and the chips / salsa were awesome. Great food and a great atmosphere. We found this place by accident, but loved it so much, have been there four times in the last two weeks. Note: While the food here is Mexican, I would say that it is "East Coast Style," with more traditional sides (beans and rice) and larger individual items. It's our preference, but is worth noting in case you are coming from California, where the Mexican food is significantly different (it's almost served as a health food there). read more

Love this place. It's REAL Mexican, not TexMex. Margaritas are perfect and real, no mix. We've been like 6x now and it never disappoints. I had one of their special Burritos (sorry cannot remember name) and added grilled Peppers and Onions, a must. Oh my! So delicious! Hubby had Chicken Tavo UPDATE: though we absolutely love their food, and would give the food alone 5 stars, as everything we've tried has been awesome BUT their service is maybe 1 star. Our last visit may be the last: sat at a table immediately, given chips and salsa, but after almost 30 mins we were not acknowledged, others waited on that came in after, no drinks, nothing. We finished our chips and still no acknowledgement or drinks. Then the cook comes out (at 6:30 pm) and says no more guacamole and we're like how do you run out of avacados. Still we had not received any drinks or our orders taken. We left. Not sure will will go back UNTIL they get their act together. Oh and there was only 1 waitress for the entire restaurant. read more

As a person who eats Mexican food on a weekly basis, this has to be the most over priced worst Mexican food known to man. Please save your money and time and go somewhere else. I won't get into all the details about how on my combination plate, the enchilada and burrito were the same thing except the burrito had the sides folded. I won't go into how the beans taste like the kind I cook from a pouch on our taco nights and I won't go into how bad this was. On a scale from 1 to 10...1 being inedible I'd give it a 3. I am picky about my Mexican food, we all know that. I loved these enchiladas!!! These are easily the best enchiladas with verde sauce I have ever had away from home! Chips and salsa add Queso are super too. The waitress was so busy by herself that we offered to come back later but she did a good job and caught up before her next job started at the Italian restaurant across the way this same evening. I can't stop thinking about my food but the Molcajete my party also ordered looked wonderful and bubbly. Try one next time as that was my original intention. I came here with my husband and daughter. First we thought the hostess was not very friendly and seemed very confused on how to do her job. Then after they sat us down we waited and waited, 7 mins went by as we watched them bring chips to everyone else who was seated after us. We were not acknowledged at all. 10 mins went by I finally waved at passing waiter, I asked him if we had a waiter, he said I'll check. ‍ we waited a few more mins then another waiter passed by we asked him and he said I'll be back in a min. We waited 3 more mins and decided to leave. It was a total of 15 mins at the table and every passing waiter ignored us as we watched others being served. I got dinner tonight for my wife and myself via UberEATS. I ordered the chicken fajitas and the meal came without the tortillas. I called and informed the manager, and his response was; " what do you want me to do about it." Here's what I want you to do, I want you to read this review. I feel he was dismissive and condescending. He stated that he didn't know why they were using Uber Eats to begin with. It wasn't Uber eats that left out the Tortillas stupid. All you had to do was say I'm sorry, you're in the service industry, it would've been over and you wouldn't have another one star review. Slightly skeptical with this place only having 3 stars....to try or not to try? Well, when you're starving and craving Mexican this place worked just great! I'm so glad we did as our experience was much better than 3 stars. Tables were seated every other for social distancing and there was a few outdoor tables as well. I had the pulled pork tacos (pictured). Don't let their appearance fool you. They arrived at my table looking like nothing special but I learned to not judge a book by its cover! They were FANTASTIC. Simple, yet the meat had so much delicious flavor and was very moist. Also being a gluten free eater I greatly appreciated all the actually really good corn tortillas. Beans and rice were also good! My husband had a chicken enchilada and it was chalk-full of well cooked chicken. Service was prompt, like within a minute of sitting we had our basket of chips and runny (but yummy) salsa.
