If you're looking for a good start to your day, keep driving. The Food: I'm pretty sure my breakfast combo was cooked in oil that hasn't been changed since the turn of the century. The hashbrowns weren't crispy--they were just a heavy, grey sponge dripping with lukewarm grease and dark burnt. I ordered bacon, but what I got looked and tasted like carbonized wood chips, when I asked for crispy bacon, it was rubbery. The Eggs: Supposed to be cheese omelette with mushrooms, but they managed to be simultaneously rubbery on the edges and swimming in a puddle of mystery oil. Burnt toast, burnt English muffin. Everything felt heavy, oily, and completely un-editable. Save your stomach and your money. There are a million breakfast joints out there--don't risk it on this grease trap.

One thing I really appreciated was that they leave a full bottle of syrup on the table, so you don't have to deal with those tiny bottles every time you want more. The coffee was hot and fresh, just what you want with a big breakfast. The place was busy when we arrived, but the manager stepped in right away to take our order, which kept things moving. Once things slowed down, our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The ambience is clean, bright, and comfortable, with plenty of booth seating. So if you're craving a solid, filling breakfast, this is definitely a spot worth putting into your GPS.

I always like to try out local French bakery when I am in the area because I love real crossiants!…read moreIt brought me to Merci cafe today when I am visiting Sarasota. The classic (plain) crossiant I had was not bad, it was crispy, but the texture was lacking layers. It didn't give me the wow factor, I had better ones at other French bakery. I also ordered a almon croissant, the stuffing inside the crossiant was just too sweet, not to my like. Hubby liked his omelet croissant, the portion of salad is bigger than what he had at other French bakery. He also had the specialty cafe, mushallow latte, cold, he liked it. We were given a warm greeting when we walked in. We had our dog with us in a stroller, we were going to sit in the outdoor seating area, but they welcomed us to sit inside. That's nice of them. I would come back next time to try out other dish than crossiant. Benedict crossiant looks yummy
