He told me back then that someday we needed to check out J&J's. We love small business, local, non-chain restaurants. I decided to surprise my husband and take him to J&J's for Father's Day. We are empty nesters, so it was just the two of us for lunch. We arrived just after 12 p.m. There was a line out the door, which we expected since it was Father's Day and Sunday lunchtime. We were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait for a table, which we had no issue with. We ended up waiting less than 10 minutes because there was a table available on the patio. The weather was beautiful, and with summer being so short in Minnesota, we like to take advantage of it whenever we can. Our server came to our table shortly after we were seated, but it was long enough that we both had time to decide what we wanted before she arrived. I ordered the Texas Philly, and my husband had the brisket sandwich. We had to wait a while for our food, which we understood given how busy the restaurant was. Others around us were complaining about the wait, and those tables had a different server who was very apologetic about the kitchen being backed up. The hand-cut fries were piping hot and seasoned perfectly. It's so rare to go out to eat and get hot fries, let alone fries that are piping hot. That alone was worth the wait! My husband loved the brisket sandwich, and the Texas Philly was SO good--piled full of meat. We live in the south metro, but it was well worth the 30+ minute drive to get there. We'll definitely be back and will absolutely recommend J&J's to others!

So wouldn't you think they would put ours up to be cooked next after waiting 1 hour, nope....... 15 minutes later I finally said to her I think we are going to leave, she brought us our tab for 1 beer and I said, seriously you can't even comp the one tap beer after this long of wait she came back and did. I would think even after saying I think we are going to leave she maybe would have said I can see where they are in the kitchen with the order but no. Just a big disappointment. Used the restroom on the way out and they must have pissed someone else off with all the toilet paper thrown around, a lady saw me taking the picture and I said this is not cool and told her o=how we never even got food, she said someone's burger and drink was on their tab and her husband almost paid it. This place needs to get their act together. We likely will not be back. I see my post from 2023 and had a bad experience too, yeah, I think we have given them enough tries.

Aside from the cafe they have a whole space dedicated to hosting tabletop games as well as a PC set up to design and 3D print minis. There's are a few small display cases with MTG cards and some pre-painted figures and nerdy tchotchke from local makers. They also offer a ton of services around running and creating campaigns with in-house GMs provided for your group. They were actually hiring some when I went in per a note on the door. The tables are pretty close to the drive-through so if that will annoy you, avoid them. Inside is bright and cheerful, good space with plenty of tables for a crowd. A few of the tables seemed to be a little closer to each other than they needed to be, but they were fine. When we first decided to go here, we thought it was a small, independent store, but it is a franchise. Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind. There are two all gender bathrooms, cute art, and merch that includes bags of their coffee. My husband had the breakfast burrito and gave it a 7 out of 10. Apparently on the website it said it came with cream cheese, but that is an error because it did come with sour cream. He said it was good, not super fancy. It was cooked in a waffle iron so it was nice and hot. In fact I think everything here is cooked in a waffle iron. He also had a mocha which was very good and chocolatey. I had Nana's cinnamon rolls (also cooked in a waffle iron. They come either with two or with four. They are fairly small so I went with four, which ended up being about one more than I could eat.. They were good. There was a good amount of cinnamon, which is important to me, and the frosting was good. They were sweet, but not overly so. This review is going to be difficult to write because I have such mixed feelings. My last rating…read morewas a five-star review and parts of my wife's and I experience merit another five stars, but parts of the same experience merit a one-star. And that makes it difficult! Let's start with the positive... Their prime rib continues to be fantastic. It's meaty, flavorful, and juicy. After having some prime rib specials at other restaurants, I can really see that they quality varies. In addition, Dehn's dinner comes with excellent Parker-house rolls and butter, cup of au jus, and a baked potato -- all of which is good. It also comes with soup or salad. Their Beef Barley soup is one of the best version of beef barley soup that I've ever had. It's loaded with ingredients, the broth has a deep flavor and I have always enjoyed their version of it. So far, this is five star territory. However, on to the not so good... I ordered the prime rib medium rare and it was clearly medium to medium well done. Honestly, if you want medium rare, medium well done is a big disappointment. I asked the waitress for a more rare piece and when she returned she told me that the chef said the piece I got was from the center of the roast and was the rarest piece they had. Although they took $8 off the price, it was not a great experience and the meat just could have been much more juicy and tasty if they had cooked it properly. But there is more. My wife order the fried chicken and for the third time in a row, they said they didn't have it. (Dehn's, if you don't carry it, either take it off the menu or tell your guests about it before they order). My wife went with the grilled chicken breast, which arrived looking like and tasting like either a frozen piece of chicken, or a bad airline meal (for those of you who can remember that). It was really tasteless and dry. In addition to all of that, we waited 15 minutes to be seated in the nearly empty restaurant because (we were told) they were short staffed. In fact, there seemed to be one waitress and one kitchen staff person for the restaurant. Service was slow (although friendly by the person who wasn't really a waitress). So what's up with Dehn's? The area around the restaurant is turning from farm land to housing. The hours of the restaurant have been cut severely and they are now only open for dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. My gut tells me that they are "caretaking" the restaurant and that although they have been open since 1958, I doubt they are going to see 2028.
