I brought the computer to Best Buy and I have to say the gentleman there was very helpful. He explained that I would have to purchase my battery since Best Buy didn't carry it . But once I had it , they would be happy to install the battery.....if I leave it there for 3 days. I am not willing to install it myself but when it arrived , I realized I did not feel comfortable leaving my computer there for that long. So , I searched for an alternative. I noticed that DPC had very high ratings so I took a chance , called and asked if I could get this done within one day. Yes, was the answer , as long as I brought it in the morning. So, I did. Just after opening, I arrived with "the patient" and the battery. The gentleman there told me to stay there and wait because it could be done very quickly. Excellent ! And it was done in less than 1/2 hour, for a very reasonable price . I didn't have to leave it for 3 days. (for a battery?) Sorry Best Buy. Quotes from the Best Buy geek squad were astronomical and other area computer repair shops I called refused to even come on-site for services - and there was no way I was dragging four computers anywhere. Fortunately, for me, I found North Shore PC. Doug and Laura (the owners) were phenomenal. They were professional, friendly, reliable and knowledgeable. Doug got all our computers up to snuff, and went above and beyond the call of duty, even donating some used parts so the whole project could remain within our budget (we're a non-profit business). It was a pleasure being able to deal with a local business, they were always in touch to answer any follow-up questions and were willing to even pop on by to do minor tweaks. They were patient and honest, advising me what was worth repairing and what would be better to replace. BOTTOM LINE: You can't go wrong with this local business. I can't recommend them enough!

I had a couple of keys on my laptop keyboard that had come off, so I bought a replacement keyboard…read moreand tried to install it myself. I then found out that the keyboard is riveted to the palm rest, and it's a big hassle to remove them and then try to put it back together, so it's best to buy the keyboard/palm rest assembly. I realized this is probably beyond my ability level, so I called QCP. I was told that no, that's not how it works, and I can just bring in the keyboard and it'll be repaired. After a few hours, I got a call saying that the keyboard/palm rest needs to be ordered together, just like I originally mentioned. Ok - fine. So QCP ordered the part, and it came in - in the wrong color - a weird purple color with black keys on my gray laptop. I ok'ed it, because I just need my laptop to function, so I'll tolerate it looking like a ghetto green sedan with a white door. Hours after dropping it off a second time, I get a call - it's done...but oh, by the way, the old keyboard was backlit, and this one isn't...and it'll cost you 150% of the original agreed upon cost. I told him I really wanted it to be backlit, and he replied that I should just try it and see if it works. Well, yeah, it works, but it's not backlit, which was one of the main reasons I selected THIS laptop. So now I've paid 150% of the price, got a ghetto looking laptop, and to top it off, the touchpad doesn't work properly any more, and there is a 1-2mm gap in the front of my laptop where the bottom and top meet. Awesome. I just paid $160 to make it worse than it was to begin with.

I decided to try my luck with these guys. The had the right power supply in stock. They charged $50 for the power supply and $20 for the install. They did it on the spot and even vacuumed the computer while they were working on it and did not charge for that. I will definitely be back when I need parts or service. Yes, I probably could have gotten the power supply for less than $50 if I went to Tiger Direct or some other online place, but I did not want to be without a computer for several days and even though their price for the power supply was high their price to install it was so low that they still beat Best Buy on just the power supply bit. A very good deal. Friendly guys and a local small business. They are now across the street though.
