I've used them over the years for repairs on a fewer. My assessment is that they are an honest, fair, and responsive team.

The best place to take your car for a smog check. Robert and Anna are friendly and accommodating.

Admittedly, more than I wanted to pay for this gov't mandated service (allow wildfires to burn…read morerampantly, but smog the petroleum guzzlers), ironically on this hazy, Santa Barbara day. But that is on our legislators. As to the service, no appointment, five minutes in and out, and, as other reviewers have noted, an impeccably clean shop, and highly professional staff. For these, a bargain. See you next time, Smog It! (Will this service protect us from the Canada wildfire smoke?)

The most pleasant experience I've had in taking my precious baby to the mechanic!!…read more I drive by Smog-It almost every day on my way home from work, and since I first laid eyes on its beautiful, iconic-looking exterior, I've said to myself how I'd love to take my car there one day. For some reason, the exterior alone made me feel like this shop would be too out of my price range. One can only imagine how excited I was when my coworker recommended THIS SHOP, after I'd asked where she would recommend I take my car for its bi-yearly smog check for a decent price. Incredible service! From the friendly guy who answered my call, to the friendly, professional staff member, Emilio, whom I gladly handed my keys over to, I highly recommend Smog-It! It felt amazing to also do business with a mechanic shop that does not talk to its patrons like they are stupid. =) The BEST part: The price to smog my car was almost $30 LESS than what I had paid another place in Studio City (Los Angeles) Plus, these guys here in SB smogged my car and gave me a fully synthetic, high-mileage oil change in less than an hour....and totally WITHOUT an appointment! With plenty of walkable spots to grab coffee or a quick meal on Milpas while you wait for your vehicle to be done, I highly recommend the team @ Smog-It!

This is a long but worth while review. I switched to Pedros from Kennedy smog test about 3 years…read moreago due to serious attitude from the tech at Kennedy's. Pedros is awesome, very friendly, knowledgeable and easy to deal with. Thank you for making getting a smog test quick, simple and friendly. After nothing but excellent experiences every smog test I decided to have my truck work done. Amazing service as usual, very fast and very inexpensive. Take the negative reviews for what they are worth. They are certainly not indicative of my experience over the past three years. I now have taken several vehicle not only for smog but for repair and I cannot tell you how awesome and above and beyond Pedro goes to make sure you are happy. I took in our Class C RV and he worked on an a couple of issues, one of the problems created a domino effect to another component and Pedro was not only on top of the issue but actually didn't charge me for work that was done to resolve it and he really should have just for the labor involved which was several hours. In todays world Pedro is a rare find and his ethics are beyond expectations. He has earned all my business and I refer family and friends knowing they are being looked after.

I'm writing this specifically for women considering this location…read more In February I brought my 1990 Ford Bronco in for smog. It failed. I paid $100, worked with my mechanic, and returned February 26th. That's when Pedro informed me my check engine light would prevent a legal pass -- then suggested that for an additional fee, it could be handled. I did not solicit this. He approached me. The vehicle passed. When I went to start my truck it wouldn't turn over. It never made it off their lot under its own power. Staff ignored me, then mocked me openly in front of other customers and staff for a solid hour -- the most hostile I've been made to feel in 40 years as a paying customer, and I've worked as an executive chef and a USCG Licensed Captain. I know what hostile male environments look like. Eventually they pushed my truck into the street. My mechanic diagnosed a failed fuel pump -- something any legitimate inspection would have caught. I filed a BAR complaint. My BAR representative contacted Pedro directly, at which point Pedro became verbally abusive with a state employee and refused the refund he'd previously agreed to. I have since filed a complaint with the California Attorney General. Scrolling through the 1-star reviews here, I am apparently not alone. The pattern speaks for itself.

We pulled into this shop and immediately found how special these people are. Caring, kind and helpful beyond the call is an understatement. First, they diagnosed problem, fixed it for us and came and picked us up when car was finished. Are you serious?!!! The owner himself treated us like family. If you are so lucky to live near this business look no further for a service station. Kindness lives here!! So much appreciated Shelly and Sandy

When I responded that I know exactly what I'm doing and it's weird to charge me to fix their own machine, he said "it's not weird, this isn't a free service". Not budging from his seat, he continued demanding payment to check the air machine. From there, it took a full argument for an employee to finally come out and address their machine's malfunction. And no, it was not user error like the attendant ignorantly claimed. Not only was he blatantly disrespectful for no apparent reason other than sexism, his behavior was illegal according to CA Code Section 13651. If you expect basic civility with your patronage, don't spend money here.

Enrique could have taken me to the cleaners given the situation, but chose to help me out as much as possible instead. Throughout the process Enrique instilled confidence in his workmanship and desire to get me out of a tough spot. I just got the car back and have driven it 60 miles and it's running much better than ever before breaking down. I hope I never need a mechanic in Santa Barbara, but if I do, I know where I'm going.

Huhhhhh...I take no chances. I found the first shop close by on Yelp, and Lara's was it...just around the corner off E Gutierrez. I told the guys my problem, but had to move my car off to the side and wait to be seen. This place shares a small enclosed space on Gutierrez with a few other businesses and there isn't really much room for several customers at a time, but they make it work. A dude comes and looks at my car and tells me what he thinks it sounds like (my suspicions were correct) but proposed replacing the whole part when I was told by another mechanic LATER that I didn't need the whole part replaced...just oiled/lubed. Hmmmmm...suspicious. Nonetheless, he did reassure me that everything looked fine for my trip. Nothing seemed dire or urgent, and at least THAT put my mind at ease. Thank you for that cause I get carried away with worry sometimes. Thank you for taking time to listen to me, look at the problem and answer any questions. If you have a mechanic that you absolutely trust, keep them as your plan A. However this place could be an OK plan B. I'd cross check what this place tells you with your trusted mechanic, though. Make sure it sounds ballpark.
