For the first few months, Mirchi Indian Restaurant (North Brunswick) offered a delicious reprieve from the bland so called Indian cuisine served by the rest of Indian restaurants in the area. We enjoyed very much the food at Mirchi (North Brunswick). But over the past couple of months we saw a marked deterioration in food quality, potions and variety. This situation has become worse now that they have been able to drive the other Indian restaurants in the area out of business. The once talk of the town tasty Chicken Dum Biryani on their buffet is now bland - there's really very little masala and hence the rice is dry. They have cut down on the number of items on the buffet too. But they have not cut the price of their buffet. What's worse is that if the food runs out on the buffet they do not refill. We had to beg for more food and when they did re-fill the portion was hardly enough for two people. It is shocking and even borders on deception that they continue to receive more customers even when there was no food and no refill on the buffet. Several times I saw the owner (a well dressed elderly man) checking the empty buffet trays and then simply walking away without asking his kitchen staff to refill the dishes. I suspect that he was actually controlling the kitchen staff not to refill. There was hardly enough food to serve all the customers they took for buffet. There were no vegetarian dishes; no tamarind rice, no curries and even the briyani rice had yet to be re-filled. We watched many couples walk in, quite upset at finding the trays empty. That's not what buffet is about. There should always be sufficient food for all the customers at all times during the buffet hours. I am sure the owners know this but are trying to short change the customers only to increase their profits. Another misrepresentation and deceptive advertising is that they do not serve throughout the buffet hours. Although Mirchi's normal buffet hours are 12.00 pm to 3.00 pm, there was almost no food on the buffet on our last visit at 1.30 pm. Then they did not refill until the end of buffet at 3.00 pm. All the vegetarian dishes were empty except for rasam and sambar. All meat dishes were empty except for a few scraps of tandoori chicken. We ate what was available and made the best of our Friday lunch. When the owner presented the check there was no discount on the price of the buffet. We paid the bill and left very disappointed with the buffet. A more serious deceptive advertising is that they did not serve as many dishes as they advertised for the buffet price they charged. Their delicious lamb curry, a strong reason for many to patronize the restaurant, has since disappeared off the buffet. When once they had to place the Lassi drink dispenser on another table, now they fill the main buffet table with the Lassi dispenser and 2 large trays with empty glasses. That shows the number of dishes that have been reduced giving way to other utensils, etc., on the buffet table Another important warning is to check and make sure that the glasses, cups and utensils are clean. Be wary because we found lip stick smudges on the cups and glasses used for holding Lassi. I am extremely disappointed indeed. Importantly, you should NEVER visit the restaurant for buffet after 1.30 pm. Don't waste your money. You will not get a fair value buffet for your money because they will not refill what food that was consumed by earlier customers. Mirchi started off with the promise of delicious home-style food at reasonable prices. Now with competition gone, the true colors have surfaced. If you must eat buffet at Mirchi (North Brunswick) MAKE SURE THAT THERE'S ENOUGH FOOD ON THE BUFFET BEFORE YOU TAKE THE SEAT TO EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT. This way you will not be disappointed and spoil you eat-out experience. Just a suggestion, try Arusuvai (North Brunswick) - we have eaten at Arusuvai many times and their buffet and food quality is pretty consistent and reasonably priced. They do not cut down their number of dishes and they always refill the buffet. Mirchi (North Brunswick) gets only 1 STAR based on their performance in the last couple of months. If I had reviewed them when they first started I would have given them 4 stars. However I did not review them when they started because I wanted to see how they performed over the period of 6 months. Mirchi indian restaurant is a dismal failure just like many other Indian restaurants that start of serving good food to attract the diners. I am a frequent diner at buffet at Indian restaurants for the 15 years in the New York and New Jersey areas. I have not seen such a rapid decline in quality of food like at Mirchi. Mirchi started about 5-6 months ago with delicious buffet at a reasonable price. They promised home-style cuisine and they did deliver - only at the start for about 4 months. Now that they seem to have drawn a good number of regular diners the quality of the buffet is dismal at best. Their flagship dish - Chicken Dum Biryani - is now dry yellow colored rice with some pieces of chicken. The tasty Dum briyani flavor has gone making them no different any other deceptive Indian restaurant claiming to serve this dish. The quality of the rest of the dishes is no better. The Tandoori chicken is too boney and the sambar (another of my favorite at Mirchi) is now watery and tasteless. Recently I see a reduced number of items on the buffet. This is another deception of Mirchi that promised a wide selection of buffet dishes. They fill up the table with other accessories to mask the fact that there are lesser dishes. However they have not reduced their buffet price. They don't even re-fill what food is served on the buffet when it runs out. One has to wait about 20-30 minutes and then they might re-fill a small portion that all the diners at the restaurant have to scramble for. It was a first-come-first-gets the food! There was not enough food to go round. The Caucasian waiter and another Indian waiter were polite and the service overall was adequate. They tried to help the diners as much as they could but I got the feeling that the owner called the shots on the amount of food to be served on the buffet. An important health risk is that their drinking glasses were not are clean. It will help anyone to ask for clean glasses and straws because you don't want to sip on the Lassi together with someone else's bacteria. I cannot express my shocking disappointment with Mirchi. Mirchi's promise of delicious home-style food at reasonable prices is out and bland low quality food at the original price is in. Consequently I have given Mirchi - North Brunswick a 1 star rating. I will review them again in about 2-3 months and may consider upgrading their rating only if they return to serving the type of quality delicious food they started with 5-6 months ago. My husband and I have ordered in, and dined at Mirchi on several occasions since they opened about 2 yrs ago. We LOVED the place: food was delicious, and reasonably priced, plus close to our home. We ordered in a few weeks ago, and the food just wasn't the same - chicken in the butter chicken dish tasted like it was cooked several times, and each time far too long, and the Chicken Biryani was the greasiest thing I've ever tasted. We were very disappointed. However, we hoped it was a one-off, so we went back today for lunch - boy, NOT a good call! Restaurant was empty, and we were sited by the manager quickly. He recommended their Buffet. We decided to give it a try. The manager also asked us about drinks - I ordered a chai. In the meantime, another couple walked in (so the total was now 2 tables/4 people). We waited about 15 minutes, but no tea. The Buffet - ONE Palak Kofta dumpling, ONE piece of dried out chicken tikka, a bit of way-over-cooked butter chicken, lots of rice, 1 naan, bit of iceberg lettuce with a few slices of carrots covered with kraft-like bottled dressing, and my wife "favourite:" a few tiny pieces of honeydew melon - all for $ 20! Best place in North Brunswick and surrounding areas(YES, BETTER THAN THOSE ON OAK TREE ROAD!). This place is above all, CONSISTENT with their food. Always flavorful, cooked properly and all around delicious. My wife and I go here around once a week( they even know us by name) so I can assure you that the negative reviews provided(especially from Ram V, go back to PA son... you have no idea what you're talking about) is crap reviews. I generally order chicken 65 or the Mirchi special biryani and the wife has always stuck with the Palak paneer.. we have had an array of other dishes there that are just as good as our usual's. The service has always been above average and there was only one time where we have had to wait for our food longer than expected. This place gets 5 stars, and truly deserving. the restaurant in North Brunswick, has no Somosas, when dinning in for buffet, yet they will have Chutney, the neighbor next door store, Shalimar, will have no Chutneys' ,also Mirch has no sweets and lacks a salad bar often on weekdays lunch buffets, the food quality is poor, sauce is too thick, they have non-Indian or unable to speak Indian&English immigrants( which are foreign Mexicans) dressed in red Mirch T-shirts and blue jeans, they look more like boxie fig building carpenters like in the housing neighborhoods that cut the lawns with a Mirch T-shirt, when they should have smocks/bibs like most busser do, very annoying and non-classy for a restaurant.only the host is indian, wares black baggy arab looking, he will go as far as telling you how to eat the food and stares at you all day in there. read more

Being an Indian I always give try to Indian restaurant wherever I go.I was along with my friends to this place as we are in its full busy and waiter gave us a table and took the order .We taught it was getting late for movie and called waiter a tall guy reached us and explained in a manner where I felt it is worth to wait for few mins for the food whereas the restaurant is also busy with all tables and later when we tasted the food we feel awesome taste and called the guy again and order a Togo biryani where the time we ordered is after the closing time .Even this same guy didn't say no for our order and requested you he will do it but he need some time .Really I felt friendly service and I recommend this place.Thanks mirchi read more

2 Weeks back I hosted a House Warming Party and took the Catering services from Mirchi,North Brunswick.I had a Hassel free party the Food was Delivered on time and had no Delivery charges apart from that all the Tables were set up with Table clothes, they provided serving spoons and the warming stands and asked to return them as per convenience. I ordered just less than 24 hrs ahead and they accommodated in such short notice.The Quantity and the Tastes was too good my Guests loved it.Its the Best Service I ever had.I usually don't write reviews about anything but I felt its wort writing.For Catering services don't hesitate to go for Mirchi Northbrunswick.I was really taken care very well. read more

Last month I did my daughter's birtday party in Mirchi banquet hall for 80 people. In the middle of the party, the food is not enough for all my guests. I felt so embarassed in front of my friends. I ask the waiters several time to fill it up the food because many of my friends complain where is the food. But it looked like the waiters are very unproffesional and not bother at all. So, many of my guest left hungry after party. NEVER EVER again go to mirchi. Also no response from management about my complain. Maybe they should hire profesional staffs with knowledge about the hospitality industry not just some cheap staffs. read more

Over Priced and Over Hyped Place. Many of my friends recommended this place, after my visit I asked them, when was the last time you guys been to this place all of them told me "not in recent past may be 2yrs ago 1 year ago" etc !! SO DON'T simply don't trust your friends word. Horrible Horrible experience, its not even worth mentioning the items we ordered, may be I can say this Spicy Item1, Oily Item2, Oily + Spicy Item so on and so forth ... A feast to your taste buds. We had Sunday Mega buffet lunch here last week and the food was awesome.Lots of tasty varieties.They had everything from chat to tifins to Naan and Dum biryani.I fell in love with their Ghost fry (goat fry) but unfortunately we went 10 mins before Buffet closing time and could have only one serving of it.I still regret not able to have more.Dessert by itself was a buffet, they had about 6 types of desserts.Loved the Mango mousse.Over all the food was finger licking good and worth it.Looking forward to visit again read more

I have been to this place with my wife during the Thanksgiving weekend. Coming backt to Jersey after 6 years and we wanted to try something different out there near Edison. We were so impressed with the Buffet...they had and over 50 items or even more..and its just like a grand Chinese buffet style..The south Indian breakfast starters were awesome and Chicken Biriyani was so awesome. I did my baby showers party in their hall. First of all the food sucks. Secondly, the food is not sufficient enough for my quests. Almost half of my quests left with empty stomach since I keep telling the waiter to fill up the buffet. The waiter liked he did not know what to do ( maybe never worked in the restaurant before). I had a really great dining experience with my colleagues last Saturday ! We had some appetizers such as Chili Chicken and Chili Shrimp ; the food is soooo delicious ! Also the waiter is super nice and patient ; we didn't order much because we've had some snacks at my house but still we felt very welcomed there ! I live nearby so I will definitely go there again !! Great dhum Biryani. Authentic as it gets. Ek dum superb! Spiced correctly with chillis rather than masala powder. Excellent chicken tikka and fish dishes. I had been to many indian restaurants in America most of the places had preheated , namesake color full but taste less food but never experienced good food like in mirchi and in mirchi i just loved the food allmost every item , nice and juicy this restaurant is has Indian food in it not american Indian food . I can't claim to know much about Indian food, but I know when my tastebuds and stomach are satisfied. Mirchi catered an event I was recently at (buffet style) and three cleaned plates later I was too full to get to the desserts. The caterers were very friendly and excited about what they were serving. read more
