They even did me a favor and hauled away some junk in the yard along with the massive amounts of asparagus fern and dried weeds. Why would I give you that so you could put my dimensions into your software and in 5 minutes you'd have plans. He wouldn't even give a ballpark for what the project would cost. Call someone else. While Erica is great at her job and he response was fantastic from her business perspective it doesn't change the facts. If my budget was 5k why would I give you $1250 to plan a backyard that will take 40k to complete? Not logical. Had the company said they could come up with a plan in a specific budget that would be more reasonable. But to just throw money into some plan that could be five times our budget is ignorant.

Hiring a competent, trustworthy, dependable, knowledgeable company seemed an imposing task, and I was very nervous about it... As always, Yelp was the "trusted friend" to help winnow out the imposters from the pros... After some Yelp reading (and a bit of research on my own), I called to schedule an estimate with Perfection Tree Specialist. Michael was very personable, booked the appointment and gave me a feeling I could trust and depend on him... Hard to define, it was just a sense... Michael showed up exactly when he said he would, to examine the situation and quote the removal. He was knowledgeable, genuinely friendly, and gave me the sense of a work ethic that only comes from having grown up in a business, with a love and appreciation of it... (He's third generation...) He had the belief they could remove it without trouble, and quoted a very fair price... We booked the removal date. On the removal date, again, Michael and his team showed up right on time... (How awesome is that?! And twice in a row? That's not an accident, that's a SERVICE ETHIC...) The team got all their tools and equipment into position and began the delicate extrication process... The removal was trouble-free and remarkably quick for the amount of precision cuts required and overall size of the tree. They were also able to accommodate some additional work scope requests while the job was underway, did an outstanding job with THOSE as well, and left the yard CLEAN!! These guys seriously do NOT mess around! They are artists... Experienced, skilled, professionals... This July, without talking to me, Camacho's "pruned" a rare and expensive tree into a 10 feet tall by 2 feet in diameter mass of cut limbs without leaves. While Camancho's scalped the upper portion of the tree, they left the suckers coming from the base of the tree - these were the things they should have pruned. Now I come fall, I need to leave the suckers on the tree because the upper limbs don't have leaves. Basically they totally ruined the tree and it will take years to have it recover - if ever. If Camancho's had talked with me first about pruning the tree - my bad. But they just went at this tree in the heat of summer without even talking to me. To make things worse, they have not pruned the hedges that they are supposed to prune. The tree that Camacho ruined was beautiful. Normally it blooms in January with big balls of pink flowers. The tree has been growing well and looked very beautiful with last year's rain. Now, the limbs are now tiny leafless stumps growing from the trunk. If the tree lives, it will take years to recover its shape.

After getting a few quotes for some initial tree work, I hired Santiago and his team to remove a dangerous limb over the garage and balance the oak tree that threatened the roof. They got the work done promptly and for a fair price, and, most importantly, they did it right. We were so impressed, that I called them back for a quote on a bigger project. There were several trees that needed shaping to reduce sail and let more light in, some that needed to come out entirely, stumps to be ground out, massive yard cleanup, and a pathway toward formal landscaping. Speaking with Santiago, I told him our budget, and he was able to craft a plan that prioritized the critical work while preparing the way to restore the yard with water-efficient landscaping. Clearing away at least 20 years of wild growth took several days, and a large team, but they got it done on time and absolutely perfect. One of the team was an amazing arborist who knows how to make a neglected tree healthy, balanced, and beautiful again. Every team member knew the plants they were working with. The 80 year old elm now looks fantastic, the 65 year old magnolia is putting out flowers again, the ancient oaks now have the proper canopy, and the fruit trees are putting out new shoots. The water-hungry weeds have been removed, and the yard graded and prepared. The next step will be to install drip irrigation and a blend of wildflowers and succulents to define the paths and entertainment portions of the yard, and after seeing the other projects Santiago has handled, we will stick with him. I contacted Santiago's as part of my search. I was impressed with the plan and recommendation they set forward. They worked fast and were very clean given the big project I had. The demo looked like it was hell and they made it look easy. I now enjoy a nice clean yard with automated sprinklers I control via my phone. I love the look my San Agustin grass they installed.
