The best in the neighborhood? Wrong it is the opposite of best in the neighborhood. Overpriced and poor quality sushi! This sushi restaurant should get 0 stars for serving bad quality sushi and I'm not sure why they're rewarded for serving the "best sushi" in Portland when the fishes aren't even fresh. It was absolutely terrible and they also charge you for side sauces like spicy mayo and eel sauce for dining in. It's reasonable to do so for to-go but dining in, that's greedy of them. The restaurant is old and dirty as well. Ants appeared from tiny holes crawling on the benches. I witnessed a customer mistakenly walk into this restaurant thinking it was Thai and apologized to the the old woman server who greeted them at the door she had a sudden change of attitude negatively and decided to turn and walk to the back, ignoring the customer's apology. Is that how you treat customers for walking in to the wrong restaurant? The customer is lucky to have skipped this restaurant because of how the lady reacted in annoyance. She's an ill-mannered lady and her old grumpy looking face says it all. Spend your money elsewhere and there's way better sushi places out in Portland that serves outstanding quality sushi and positive attitude customer service than this one here. Mio has been my favorite sushi restaurant in Portland for the last 10 years. The fish is always fresh and is the most flavorful, while never tasting too fishy. It's both filling and light weight, I never feel too full after Mio, just happy. I've only ever ordered take out, but whenever I go in to pick up my order the service is always very friendly and the restaurant is clean. Not sure why this place only has 3.5 stars.. One of my favorite spots in the area. consistently fresh sushi, amazing staff, quick service. This is a satisfying all encompassing sushi restaurant. They have creative rolls, sashimi, nigiri and menu items for non sushi lovers. Some tried and true favorites are the NIKSAN roll, bloody vampire (if you like fried sushi ) the garlic salmon and the sweet salmon are so tasty, green muscles are an amazing appetizer (be sure to order early in your meal...they take time) I had yellowtail belly for the first time and really enjoyed it. They also have the best sake descriptions. Eating in I noticed a lot of single people at large 4 tops so it's probably good to call ahead for the wait or order out. The food is really REALLY well prepared and tasty. Their happy hour is awesome! Just don't go in there during happy hour, the current staff (12/22 currently, and the last 4 times I've been in...) makes it known they hate you for ordering happy hour. I've always tipped 30-40% because I can. And always will, but this place has such a depressing staff, I avoid it when I can. Plenty of places have good sushi around town, but this one is so convenient I keep ending up here. Never disappointed by the food. We were craving some Sushi and decided to order Mio via Postmates. This was amidst the COVID-19 lockdown and 90% of our food delivery experiences had been sub-par. Mio did not disappoint and delivered the constituent quality we have been use to in precious dining experience. The favorites included the Dragon, Mt. Fuji, Tempura and Salmon Creek (the yakisoba was a 2.5 out of 5). It's been a while since we were at our local Mio Sushi so we thought we would give it another shot (last visit was disappointing service - see previous review). Unfortunately they didn't deliver. The bento box was ok but at 13.95 it is starting to move into a high enough cost that I expect better. The worst was my husband's ramen. Take note - Mio Sushi does NOT know how to do ramen. It was served with half a hard boiled egg that was so over cooked I could see the grey edges around the yoke. Also it was just that: an ordinary hard boiled egg. It also came with 2 slices of chashu, one of which was inedible as it had no meat on it. It was just a slice of gelatinous fat. Noodles were also over cooked and left a gloopy feeling as it you ate it. We told the waiter who apologized and said he would tell the chef. No offer of a discount or anything. Overall, it did not meet good value nor good quality enough for us to justify visiting again. read more

The service was pretty bad and the girl taking my order wasn't friendly- had an attitude. We were lucky to snag the last table during lunch time since we noticed it was quite busy on a Monday afternoon, ok except the tables outside of the restaurant and some counter seating were still available. The $6.95 Bento lunch box is such a steal!! There was a really nice sizable salmon teriyaki, with a side of salad, lots of ginger and a huge 10-piece California roll with 2 pieces of vegetable gyoza! Something this calibre would have costs $10 in Mountain View or another other Bay area restaurants during lunch time. We also shared the cucumber salad and the ahi tuna salad and two pieces of Unagi nigiri and the bill came up to $17 without tips added yet. Cute lil restaurant in the northern part of Portland, friendly staff and a great and reasonably priced lunch menu! We are coming back! I want to try the tempura green tea ice-cream! :) They also accept to-go orders since we noticed other patrons coming in to pick up their orders. I've eaten here many times before and never had a problem, until today when I was greeted by a mouse upon walking into the establishment to pick up my to-go order. The nonchalant demeanor from the worker when I told her about it gave me an uneasy feeling that this has been something they've been dealing with. I'm surprised to see bad reviews here, but to each one's own. During my four years as a University of Portland student, my friends (and parents when they were in town) and I frequented Mio on Friday or Saturday nights when we wanted to get off campus. Although I had to wait in an area with limited space, I have never had an issues with service once my friends/family and I were seated. I always got the strawberry lemonade, and loved the addition of real strawberries. It was so good that I would take advantage of their free refills. :-) I also loved their "sushizzas," (sushi pizza) and have yet to see this item at other sushi restaurants. However, all the sushi I had is amazing and not super expensive considering that it is high quality. Still hungry after sushi? I'd recommend their green tea ice cream and key lime claypso. The key lime claypso is has the texture of mousse but not as rich as its chocolate cousin--although I may be biased as a key lime fan. :-) My friend turned me on to green tea ice cream, and given that I am not a green tea fan, my recommendation says a lot. Though I have mostly been here for dinner, a friend and I had lunch the day before I moved. The restaurant wasn't as crowded then, so if you want to avoid crowds and long waits, lunch is the time to go. I know some reviewers have compared this location to others, but I can't add my two cents as I have only been to the Killingsworth location. I miss Mio dearly since I left Portland after graduating in May 2012, and will come back should I find myself in Portland. read more

We ordered a spider, tempura and a crunch roll. We won't be ordering again neither from mio sushi nor thru Yelp. The total was just under $50 with all the fees & tip for food that was delivered twenty minutes late, super soggy like falling apart and flavorless. We didn't even eat but one bite each. They sent no soy or chili sauce, no chopsticks. The deep fried shrimp tempura was cold. I wonder how long the food was sitting. We contacted support and they offered 20% off the next order as if we want to try and waste some more money. Do yourself a favor and pass on this place. Who wants sushi that's flavorless, not fresh, and you have to wait the 30 min delivery window plus an extra 20 minutes? If you want to do that go for it, I guess. Our first time here, and though we would've liked to sit down and eat in we perfectly understand why we couldn't. We've seen plenty of people hanging around waiting for food so we had a reasonable expectation of decent food. And we weren't disappointed. We got a dbl crunch roll, and avacado and jalepeno sushi. I was checking the Yelp page to see what time my favorite sushi place in the whole wide world closes. I was dismayed when I saw that this Mio location only had a 3 star rating. EVERY TIME we come here we are greeted with smiles & joy. The food is top notch, and they even gave us a free t-shirt on my birthday. We have never had a bad bite at this location, but if a 3 star review keeps all the haters away, we don't want your negativity anyway. As sincerely as I can post this, I was so relieved to have a reliable sushi/Japanese restaurant to relieve all of the occasional Nihongo angst that builds within. To my rescue, a Mio Sushi up in NoPo, right off Greeley! Here, it can certainly get so busy, I'd waver to say the wait was worth it, if you got stiffed and was dealt an hour wait verdict...I mean, it's reliable all right, but I could also certainly drive downtown for a higher quality experience. And so, yes it was great that I could, instead, just place an order by phone, get down an exact time the food'd be ready, and approach the ingesting at home. My humble Asian opinion: sashimi is fresh enough, but not stellar. The portions are very decent, as are the prices. For me, though, what a joy to not fight the parking war in Nob Hill, circling like a dingbat to get as close to NW Johnson as I could, and just come here instead. We go here all the time! It's our local go to spot. The sushi is average and the staff is SO nice. They are quick with getting your order out, which is refreshing. I've been eating at Mio for many, many years at their various locations all over town. This one is, sadly, not the best. The sushi just seems to be worse, and the staff is not the same bright and cheerful group from different locations. I would probably just keep all this to myself as a fan of the brand, but they've dropped the ball on a couple delivery orders and, when you're sitting hungry at home waiting for your (1.5hrs) overdue food, it's just sucks. I always do sushi for my sons birthday and all special occasions we ordered over 100 bucks in rolls and the waitress would only give my son 2 little cups of spicy mayo he uses 2 cups worth when we dine in.
