Definitely a hidden gem! They just recently opened in Portland. The owners were so kind to recommend their best selling item on the menu. I ordered the Salmon Deep Fried Roll, So delicious and love the freshness of the Salmon.

I visited Takibi twice during my stay in Portland--once for the Winter Omakase course and once for…read moreà la carte--and left highly satisfied both times. The highlight of the Omakase was an unexpected one: the "ramen." To be honest, I was a bit skeptical when I saw it on the menu, but it turned out to be an incredible dish--more akin to a refined, cold soba experience--that truly impressed both me and my companion (who is not Japanese). It was so good that it convinced us to return for a second meal. The service is nearly flawless. The staff was incredibly accommodating, even preparing a dish from the Omakase course that wasn't on the à la carte menu upon our request. If there is one area for improvement, it would be the beverage pairing for the Omakase. While the food was excellent, I felt the quality and the portion size of the pairings could have been a bit more ambitious to match the standard of the cuisine. I also missed out on their lunch-exclusive ramen due to timing, which is definitely on my list for next time. Takibi offers a level of satisfaction that goes well beyond any star rating; it's a place that genuinely cares about the guest experience. Highly recommended.

A restaurant connected to Japanese outdoors company Snowpeak? Sure, it's interesting. I like that…read morethey use some of the Snowpeak gear for the service, such as their stainless steel cups for the sake flight. The restaurant itself has a Japanese wood-modern and simple aesthetic. It's cute. They've got the sushi bar and then the back wall with the fire going for the meats. We came in to try the Portland Dining Month menu. It was good - 3 courses, with simple but varied flavors. My only complaint is that the portion of fish was so small, especially compared to the amount of rice they give. I might be annoyed by the smaller portions if I were ordering a la carte. Service was decent, but not particularly amazing to go along with the higher price point here. Happy hour seems like the way to go, considering that the food was good, but now WOW. My cocktail was also good hit on the sweet side. We had a good time for dining month, but I think we will stick to HH if we come back.

Prices are reasonable and they have a good selection of seasonal and specials. My personal favorite is the heather canyon roll and pork katsu! I recommend making a reservation as they have limited seating (around 5 small tables and 4 bar spots) and take a while to make the food. If you're in for an ambient, intimate experience and not in a hurry, I'd definitely recommend this spot!

A generous pour too. Apologies to the purists, but I ordered the California Roll as it consisted of real crab. Roll slices were small. Taste was par for the course. The shrimp croquettes were my favorite item of the night. And I concur with another Yelper that the Chicken Katsu was excellent, and also good portion to price. The Miso cod on special was tasty, but, small. We also ordered eel nigiri, one of the special hand rolls, and yummy sliced duck. Our experience ended with a somewhat unmemorable flan. Service by the lone server was very friendly and efficient, she's a pro. Usually it's points off for a Downtown spot and no parking, but all the inconveniences actually add to the vibe of this must-do Japanese restaurant.

For our group of four,…read morewe didn't have much of an issue getting seats on Friday or Saturday night, but I'd recommend making one if you're able to plan ahead. The food: My recommendations - Yuzu Tsuyu Tsukemen - my first no-soup ramen experience and it didn't disappoint. Got the nontraditional "warm" noodles instead of cold, but with the cold sauce, I thought it was pretty good. Reminds me of other Asian cold noodle dishes (which I typically love) but with the added fun of dipping). Tangy, sweet, savory, saucy. Yuzu Ratan - Their menu highlights a type of ramen that isn't commonly found in the US. The broth has definite citrus flavor from the yuzu, but it also reminded me of beef and tomato. I quite liked the noodles here - thin and very good chew. Quite a unique experience. It's not my favorite style of ramen, but definitely worth trying. Tori Karaage - slight fried texture on the outside and still juicy center. Another dish with yuzu from the sauce. This is a good one! Ota Tofu Yakko - firm tofu, yuzu ponzu sauce, and bonito flakes. The combination is cool and refreshing. The other dishes - Kaisen Don - I thought this dish was fine, but nothing special for the price. 4 pieces of fish with ikura and tobiko. Tonkotsu Shio - flavorful broth, but not very creamy or oily. I tend to like very rich tonkotsu. Crispy Broccolini - oven roasted to the point where the leaves tasted a bit like kale chips. Looking for a different style of ramen? It's worth a stop to Afuri to try their Yuzu Style

Orders were mistaken and/or poorly paced, with yawning gaps between courses, and their appetizers are banal bordering on subpar. I went a few months ago with my siblings on a late Saturday and have been back a few times since for late night Friday grub with my friend. Not only are their prices reasonable, but the staff (I've had the same server every time) is so nice, attentive, and helpful. To top it off, the food is great. I love carpaccio everything and I love their entire carpaccio offering (minus the tuna cause I haven't tried it yet). But the yellowtail, salmon, and beef? EVERY TIME. Their chu-toro is also really fresh and buttery. I love medium fatty tuna more than I like the extra fatty one. But if you prefer the latter, try the otoro. Also, there scallops skewers?! A MUST. A favorite late night cap spot for sure.

I went to Hachi twice in one week because it was so good!…read more First off, Hachi is an Izakaya which is basically a Japanese bar. The ambiance is very much a bar/street food stall kind of place. Loved the hustle and bustle and style of these kinds of places. Don't expect a quiet night out! It gets decently loud, especially when business is booming. Weekends are open late until 2am! Make a reservation if you can!!! We even called on a Friday night an hour before coming and we were still able to land a reservation! It gets very busy on the weekends! Service on the Friday night was a 10/10, our server was actually being trained but he came to check on us frequently! Service on the Thursday was a little less enthused, our server only came to check on us maybe once towards the end. Now for the food and drinks! Drinks -Yuzu nade: yuzu lemonade w/ red wine. 10/10, I love anything yuzu, and it was so pretty! -Whiskey high ball. Comes in two sizes, 16 & 32oz, my friend got the double double and it was so strong! Will likely give you a nice buzz if you get the 32oz, haha! -Peach/Mango/Lemon Freezing Chu-Hais (can be non-alcoholic if you want!). Basically shochu (which is an alcohol similar to vodka or sake) with flavored carbonated water and lots of fresh fruit pieces. -(not pictured): house sake - not too strong, super simple taste Foods -Jalapeno Yellowtail Carpaccio. 10/10 with the yuzu ponzu sauce, definitely my top item! -Yakitori. We got multiple! Shishito peppers, grilled scallops, chicken thigh, pork belly, wagyu. The wagyu just meltsssss in your mouth! Worth it being $8.50 for the wagyu itself. All of the yakitori had great flavor! All differently priced, but worth trying them all! -Bluefin tuna roll. 8pcs for ~$8.50 is an absolute steal! Just melts in your mouth! -Bluefin Chutoro Sashimi (5pcs). Again, it melts in your mouth! Must try! They were out of the Otoro the day we got this but the Chutoro was still so yummy! -Ikayaki (grilled squid). Comes with a small side of spicy mago and pureed/minced ginger. Only thing is that the spicy mayo amount on the plate is so tiny so we had to get an extra side of it for $0.50. It was grilled and cooked to perfection, not too chewy or tough. -Takoyaki. Good ol fried octopus balls, can't go wrong with this guy. -Karaage (Japanese fried chicken). Comes in 2, 5, or 8 pcs. So juicy! -Citrus YTJ roll. Basically if the yellowtail carpaccio was a roll, without the yuzu sauce. This roll only has the ponzu sauce. Still so good!! My favorite roll, I highly recommend. -March 2026 special, Southwest Rainbow. Your classic rainbow roll except with spicy tuna, cucumber and cilantro in the middle. Topped with multiple sashimi fish types and cilantro. I've never had a sushi roll with cilantro but it was good! Had a little kick from the spicy tuna, I loved it! -Honey toast. Probably my least favorite thing because the inside was soft and dryyyyyy, also not a big honey fan. We had to get a side of honey for my friend so he could moisten up the middle a bit and eat it all. They're very generous with the ice cream scoops! Overall, 9/10 place for food and drinks! I'm recommending this place to all my friends and coworkers!!!!
