The food quality has gone down significantly since we were last here. Nori was soggy and the fillings were just really generic and mediocre tasting. Service was still excellent but it's a bummer that I don't think I'd come back again.

We ordered a variety of dishes, sushi, sashimi, noodles and fried rice - sad to say that it was disappointed. The atmosphere was nice and cute for a date. The staff was super friendly and nice enough to switch out our noodle dishes out because it was so salty. We switched to a fried rice instead but it was salty again. The only dish that was good was the creamy scallop rolls!

Bonus points to the restaurant for their generous portions of truly bad sushi. We ordered for take out over the phone and went in to pick it up so we didn't really examine the bag and it's contents. We found later at home that the first red bag should have been the irregularly cut orange slices accompanying our "Citrus Salmon Sashimi." The sashimi was basically chunks of salmon cut in no regular order - like poke cuts but worse - fitted into a hollow orange rind with the 2 ends of the orange peel decorating the whole thing like a pair of Mickey Mouse ears. There were 4 tiny slices of avocado to, I guess, pair with this whole feast which couldn't save the sashimi from having any real taste or flavor of citrus or good salmon. Second red flag was the seared albacore nigiri pieces looking like it was standing up straight from how dry it was. While I believe the intent was to sear the piece of fish, the result was a half cooked, thin slice of fish on top of rice. Unpleasant to eat. Last few things: the ratio of rice to filling/topping on the sushi rolls (we got the west coast roll) was basically 1-to-1. You'd get full off 3 pieces, no matter your appetite -- trust. Anyway, the reviews on this place has given me trust issues with highly rated sushi places in Portland. My partner and I were both fighting for our lives in the bathroom last night. Other than the exciting turn of the night, Sushi One has not impressed in any other way.

I think I've found my new favorite sushi place! I've been to MANY sushi restaurants over the years, and Sushi One is spectacular. The restaurant is meticulously clean, staff is very friendly and helpful, variety is huge, and the food is absolutely stunning! Although there is no parking lot, there is plenty of easy street parking available. The sushi rolls here are unique in that most of them are not loaded with avocado, and are not swimming in heavy sauces. The chefs seem to truly appreciate the ingredients, and know best how to prepare and highlight them. I've had negi hama many places before, and Susi One's is hands-down the best. The crispy and fresh scallion in it was something I don't recall discerning at other places. The same holds true for the hamachi kama and sauce that accompanies it. The baked lobster was amazingly great, too. Not at all greasy or heavy, and amazingly fresh. The presentations are particularly great as well. Beautiful flowers and bull's eye beet (or radish, not sure which) act as adornments and serving holders for wasabi, etc. The dishes and place settings are remarkably nice as well. Each of the rolls I had here had an almost magical depth and complexity of flavor, the likes of which I'd never experienced anywhere else before. The only slight negative is that they don't (or at least didn't) have any low-sodium soy sauce. I cannot wait for my next trip and highly recommend Sushi One.

Amazing display of sashimi and nigiri.

Really great sushi option in northern Portland! The proprietors are the loveliest Korean folks. We will be back. Smaller space with tight parking, but big taste. Fresh, delicate, balanced, beautiful!

Pros: great service, good sushi. Cons: food poisoning, if you order cooked dishes. You'd think it was the sushi, but nope, they have no idea how to cook a grilled dish. Went in at 7pm with a group of 5, and we'd called ahead. They told us 25 minute wait, and we got there 15 minutes later and were seated pretty quickly. We ordered individually, a mix of sushi rolls and cooked plates. I ordered the salmon teriyaki since I'm not a sushi person, and we also got a pot of green tea for the table. The teapot was refilled promptly when we finished it the first time. Food comes and portion sizes look great! They gave me a huge chunk of salmon on my plate so I was excited. However, on starting to eat it I realized that the salmon was not cooked beyond the beautifully grilled surface, and it was fully raw, translucent and cold on the inside. I flagged down our server, who immediately apologized, recognized that it should be fully cooked, and took it back to be remade. A few minutes later, another server came by to tell me they were now out of the salmon teriyaki, and offered to either remove it from the bill or make a slightly different dish. I opted for the dish (salmon collar). However before it came out, I started to feel pretty sick and excused myself to go to the restroom. I'll spare the restroom details, but I was not having a good time. I could also overhear the server in the kitchen, berating the chef for the uncooked salmon, and even saying "this is the fifth time this has happened". Turns out I was not the first victim of this issue. My table asked for a box to go for the salmon collar dish. When I came back, the original server came back to apologize again, and to also tell us they had discounted our bill for the experience. They were very genuinely apologetic and I appreciated their effort to remedy the issue. At this point we'd been at this restaurant a little longer than we'd planned to be, mostly due to the remade dish and the amount of time I'd been in the restroom with a stomachache. We left at around 9pm. I heard from the rest of my group that the sushi was good, but their experience was tainted by what happened to me. And the last cherry on top - the next day, my partner went to heat up the boxed salmon collar dish. These pieces were smaller, but also grilled. Even after reheating it, we found that the salmon collar was still raw on the inside. We threw it away. If you're already on the way here, stick to the sushi. Don't get any cooked dishes. The service worked very hard to make up for the incident, but we won't be returning.

Do not order here unless you love mayo. I've had rolls elsewhere with too much mayo for my preference, I prefer a light drizzle. But I've never seen anything like this. Completely inedible. The roll is drenched in Mayo and other sauces. It's hard to see in the pictures fully but there has got to be at least 1/2 a CUP of mayo slopped on this roll. I ordered the Ocean Scallop from the "Sashimi" section of door dash. I expected slices of large ocean scallops. Perhaps I'm wrong but I was under the impression that sashimi meant just the fish. I had no idea it would be minced scallops in globs of mayo in a seaweed wrap... This is not at all what I expected from an upscale sushi restaurant. Super disappointed.

Came here with a group of friends on a Saturday evening and it was packed. There was a constant stream of people coming through to eat, so we were pretty excited. Bottom line: great place for raw food, bad place for cooked food. The sushi dishes were delicious--super fresh and huge portions, all reasonably priced. But one of my friends ordered the teriyaki salmon and it was fully raw on the inside. The service is very good, to be fair, and the waiter and manager(?) apologized a dozen times and did get an order of salmon kama for free. They also halved the cost of the original meal. That being said, even the salmon kama ended up being a little undercooked. So, yeah, bottom line: get the sushi.

If you're a sushi lover, you absolutely have to give this place a try. The flavors are very authentic, and the owner is really nice, too.

The waiter was very nice and brought us cold water and utensils. I ordered a beer and my friend ordered a chai. He ordered the korma, and I ordered the Afghani Reshmi. His korma came out much quicker than mine, but that was okay. We also ordered garlic naan and roti. The garlic naan and the roti are truly amazing. They were tender and soft and had a great flavor. His korma was pretty good too! He says it's some of the best he can get locally. The star of the attraction was the Afghani Reshmi. I have never had this dish before or had even heard of it, but it was amazing! Flavorful and juicy chicken, onions and chilies....it was amazing. The only negative that I experienced at all was the music was incredibly loud at some points and at other times very quiet. Which wouldn't have been odd, but when I say loud, I mean you had to talk louder to the person across the table to hear them. I didn't ding the rating tho, because I imagine that was a fluke. Plus the food was really good. They did say their menu is in flux right now, so some of the things on it are changing... But overall I highly recommend this place.

Laulau, chicken long rice...CHICKEN LONG RICE! I haven't had that in years and suddenly my mouth was watering. My dining companion was taking in the meat jun on the menu, as well as the fried rice omelette. We went in and ordered the chicken adobo fried rice omelette and chicken long rice on the side. Double starch, double chicken, check. Loved that the menu pointed out they serve koshihikari rice. I knew I was in good hands. No medium grain rice for this gal. The service was friendly, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. There was a nice note on the wall saying the table would be bussed by staff, so we didn't have to play the guessing game of "search for the bus bins." Clean tables, bright light from the windows, good food. The adobo gravy on the omelette was winnahs. The omelette itself was not holding a candle to Elena's Food Truck, but tasty and filling. The chicken long rice was perfect. The only improvement would have been a nice hit of white pepper, maybe. The only thing not quite to my liking was the mac salad, but that didn't stop us from mopping our plates clean. We will be back for everything else on the menu.
