My mom read an article in Southern Living featuring this restaurant as the best in Alabama -- or some similar lofty accolade. We were pleased to find it was in easy driving distance for us, and so off we went to give it a go. Located in the small downtown of Oneonta, we didn't have trouble finding nearby street parking during lunch time. Although the entrance and exterior is low-key, the interior is spacious, airy, and just classy enough for a restaurant that walks a nice line between a finer dining experience and an accessible but high-quality lunch spot. Lofty ceiling, exposed brick, etc. It wasn't super crowded but they were doing a solid business for a midweek lunch. Our waitress was spectacular. She was an older Latina woman with a moderately thick Spanish accent; I'm not sure if she gave us her name. She walked my dad to the restroom when we first arrived, patiently answered questions (both menu and non-menu related...my endlessly curious dad can and will chat up anybody!!), and provided great recommendations. She brought us to-go drinks and boxes without asking (though we definitely needed them!). She was just so perfectly attentive, warm, and gracious. HUGE kudos! Their menu consists of pasta dishes and upscale American and Italian classics like filet mignon and chicken Parmesan. They also have a few more lunch-y items like a steak sandwich. Entrees come with bread and salad for the table. There are jars of delicious, buttery, smooth and herbaceous olive oil waiting on each table to go with the bread. It was perfect with the warm rolls that were brought out to our table. We couldn't stop eating it. The shared salad was large and loaded with fresh vegetables and other goodies, including banana peppers, olives, tomatoes, and red onions. The house dressing was lightly acidic and enjoyable. We got a plate of fried ravioli to share to start. It was delicious! The cheese was SO gooey and there was no shortage of it inside the crispy, salty, breaded ravioli. The dipping sauce wasn't overly sweet and complemented it perfectly. For entrees, my dad ordered a blackened chicken salad, my mom got fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and vegetables (I know she kept mushrooms and peppers but asked for no broccoli), and I got crispy chicken Parmesan. They will grill the chicken if you prefer. This came with my choice of one of my three pasta sauces: tomato basil, Alfredo, or creamy tomato basil, which is half and half tomato basil/alfredo. At the encouraging of our waitress, I went with the creamy tomato basil. Everything was absolutely delicious. My dad's salad was probably the weak link though was still quite tasty -- serves him right for getting a salad at an Italian restaurant. ;). It was huge and the chicken was cooked very well, not at all dry. Mom absolutely loved hers and was very impressed at how beautifully and subtly all the different flavors played together. The creamy tomato basil sauce on my pasta was absolutely fantastic and a great recommendation. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly. My chicken Parmesan was maybe the *tiniest* bit overcooked (edges were a little chewy), but the inner pieces were succulent and the breading and melted cheese on top was delightful. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. It was truly a delightful dining experience. This would be a great road trip for special occasions like an anniversary or even just for a fun way to treat yourself. Please give them a try if you're anywhere nearby. We've been dining at Mio Sogno since their early days in the little building by the putt putt course, and it has remained one of our favorite spots ever since. We now drive around 50 minutes one way to dine here. The food is consistently outstanding--elevated dishes that feel like something you'd find at a five-star restaurant. The bread is perfection (10/10), the fried ravioli is a must (10/10), and the Land and Sea is unforgettable. You truly have not experienced sauce until you've tasted the one on that dish. And then there's the bread pudding. Over the years we've made it our mission to try bread pudding at some of Birmingham's top restaurants, and nothing has ever come close to what Mio Sogno serves. Absolutely fantastic. The restaurant alone was elegant with white linen tablecloths. The service was pure elegance with a shoutout to Dominic for his excellence in service. The food was cooked perfectly with beautiful plating. A diamond in the rough in this small town of Oneonta. I had chicken parm and hubby had Alfredo topped with a lobster tail. Came here on a Sunday afternoon before a play and was pretty disappointed. I ordered a filet and received something that looked like a cheaper cut of meat. Maybe it was a filet but certainly not like any that I've ever been served. The atmosphere is great, the service was good but the food was a miss. read more

Visited Mio Sogno on Valentines Day. The restaurant wasn't crowded when my dining partner and I initially arrived. We were seated immediately. I ordered the Salmon dinner and my partner ordered the surf and turf. The salmon was excellent! Cooked to perfection. The surf and turf was dry and had an inferior cut of beef on the plate. We ordered wine with our meal and had to ask 3 times for it to be brought to the table. Halfway finished with our meal I cancelled the wine that had not yet come. Our server insisted we accept the wine as it had been poured and was sitting in glasses at the bar. We also needed to chase our server down to get our water glasses refilled. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Alabama!! So glad Oneonta offers such a nice place to eat. Service and waiters are always nice and the food is top notch!! However, after eating there today, we have a new perspective: we were returning to our vehicle and our waiter caught up with us in order to give us our credit card we had mistakenly left at the restaurant. Wow!!! Not only great food, great service but honest waiters!! We were so thankful for his courteousness and honesty!! This is one of the best kept secrets in Alabama!!! read more

We ate here for Sunday lunch. We arrived at 11:30 to an almost empty restaurant, but by noon the place was packed. Our waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He and the manager spent a bit of time trying to fix the air conditioning as it was very cold. However, the food was delicious. I ordered the Tortellini with chicken and the Alfredo sauce. It was so tasty. It also had pieces of broccoli and carrots. They bring bread and salad before the main dish. The salad dressing tasted like Kraft Italian but it was still good. The oil for the bread was a nice touch. For dessert we wanted the Tiramisu but the server told us it's not always available. He told us if we are interested in it to check out the website where they let everyone know it's on the menu. We chose the Banana Bread Pudding which was topped with ice cream with homemade caramel sauce. We didn't miss the Tiramisu at all. Except for the cold (which they were able to adjust) and the noise (a bit loud and hard to hear lunch mates), it was a great lunch. We will definitely return when we're back in Alabama. read more

Terrible decision to visit this place again. Went in tonight and once again got terrible service, our bread and salad was delivered to a table that came in 10 minutes after we placed our order. Then our order was wrong, our waitress took it back to the kitchen and then brought it back out stating the cook said it was correct. How would anyone think that's correct, I didn't argue, just ate the food I didn't order and after I gave payment with a local corporate credit card, the server came back and apologized saying she even knew it was wrong and was so sorry, but that's what was told to her. Sadly trying to support local businesses keeps giving us a bad experience, as more options are available with great customer service just right up the road. I won't ever patronize this establishment again, or even recommend it to anyone. Thankfully I wasn't entertaining business professionals, and it was just a dinner with my wife after an event. read more

4 stars is generous. Nice space, wait staff provided average service. We had the Salmon and Ahi Tuna. Acceptable. The one dish worth mentioning was the corn chowder which was excellent. Very disappointed I couldn't get a charred rare rib eye. Not in a hurry to return. read more

Big time flavor, small town charm! We had narrowed are dining options (lunch) down to a possibility of two places, based on the 5 star review, I'd have to say that we chose correctly. We arrived at about 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon and were pleased to find that we could be seated immediately. Our server was prompt and knew the menu exceptionally well - was able to provide recommendations and tell us what the popular menu items were. We started with the Fried Ravioli (4 out of 5). It may have been better, it just wasn't what I was expecting - but they were really good, and the portion was just right for an app. We each ordered an entree type meal so they came with bread (oil was at the table already) as well as a salad to share. Salad was fresh and a good way to transition from the app to the main course. The oil they provide for bread dipping is really good (4 out of 5). I had the BBQ Salmon with bacon wrapped shrimp on a bed of rice pilaf with grilled strawberries. The first bite or two I wasn't totally sold on the dish, but it consistently grew on me the whole meal - to the point that there was none left. My wife also enjoyed her chicken parm (I think she would go 5 out of 5). My salmon dish I'd probably go 4 out of 5). Service was exceptional and the staff obviously cares about the customers that come in. I REALLY wanted to like this place. Like I REALLY did...but it just didn't live up to the hype for me. The wait was extremely long and we never received a call from the hostess letting us know that our table was ready, which led to an even longer wait. The aesthetic was like a boujee farmhouse vibe, which I loved. They had full bar service. The food was okay. I had a pasta dish with chicken. Nothing special to note there. I didn't finish half of it. However, my fiancé got a steak and he was extremely happy with his choice. He said it was great and that we'd have to go back soon. Maybe I just made a poor menu choice? My salmon was cooked perfectly- not over or underdone. The vegetables were fresh and crisp and for a person that doesn't eat many sauces the mustard cream sauce on the salmon was delicious. This was our first trip to the new location. We have tried to go three different times but something was always going on. Including this crazy virus. The new location is wonderful. We both had the Sea and Land meal. This was new on the menu. Oh my gosh, this plate of food was absolutely awesome. I was a little hesitant about having three meats on one plate but it all fell together. We had never been disappointed at the Cleveland location so we knew the food would still be excellent, and it was. This is the only restaurant that my husband will try something new each time we go and will be just overwhelmed each time at how good the meal was. Our waitress Martha, was super nice and very attentive without being overbearing. The food was brought out really fast and everything was the right temperature. I usually get the hamburger steak but this time I tried the 16oz Ribeye... DO NOT GET IT. The meat itself was just awful. I had to cut around the grizzle fat that is uneatable to get the meat. I got it med well and I'm not sure how they did it, but part of it was cooked and the other part was dead red inside. I've eaten steaks everywhere, Conners in Huntsville, Maria's in Cave City Ga, Big Mikes, salt grass, and of course places like Longhorns.... When I say this was the worse steak ever.... Im basing it off years of experience. You'd be better off giving your money to a homeless person. BUT the service there is still impeccable and in today's time, that's hard to find. So stick to the hamburger steak and get something you can actually enjoy. Service=Great ... Ribeye = the worse. You get that ribeye and you'll wish you'd listen to me. read more

Our first visit was pretty good, albeit a bit pricey. We had a couple of appetizers, fried mozzarella and the ravioli. The only knock on either was that they were very similar to one another. The ravioli could have had a bit of meat to it to give it a different flavor... just seemed to miss slightly. The salad was delicious and plentiful. We all tried different entrees, and for the most part, they were great. We were wondering what the Italian menu looked like so we stopped by after a dinner across the street and a walk around the main street, for dessert. I have been to this restaurant 5 or 6 times as it is my mother's favorite place. I give the atmosphere a solid 4 out of 5 rating. Food is good but not quite up to par with the price paid for it. Where this place completely misses the mark is on service. Every time I have visited this restaurant, I have been nothing but disappointed in the attention to detail, the lack of a sense of urgency related to everything, poor processes, poor training of wait staff and a general complacency in how they serve their customers. I have been here a handful of times and I am never disappointed. The food is always fresh, the staff is always kind and willing to assist, and it's always so nice inside the establishment. This place was amazing. You get a salad and bread with olive olive and herbs dip for your appetizer. I got the salmon alla vanintins. It was cooked to perfection. Absolutely delicious. My husband got the blackened tilapia and shrimp. It was also great. My dad got there steak and it was cooked perfectly. So tender. My mom got the sea and land. It was also amazing.
