Staples - Long lines

Staples

I needed to make a return to Amazon and so glad that Staples now do returns as well. I realize now…read morethat Amazon and UPS are now charging for certain returns which is crazy seeing as most people use Amazon due to the easy return policy, because that's what they sold us on. But anyway, I haven't been to this Staples in a while and now they have also added a Party City section which is cool. I noticed that all Staples are doing this now. As I walked around the store, I realized that it's still cheaper to buy on Amazon because when I started to compare their prices, they were more and the availability of some products were unavailable. They are still very good for marketing and printing options. You can also sign up for TSA pre-check as well

I came to Staples to return an Amazon package, and the experience was unbelievably frustrating…read more There were around 50 people waiting in line with only ONE employee working behind the returns counter. Meanwhile, several other employees were standing around on their phones or joking with each other instead of helping. I felt bad for the one woman doing her best to handle an impossible situation by herself. It was disappointing to see such a lack of teamwork. When there's a line that long, everyone should be pitching in to help customers and support their coworker. Instead, it seemed like nobody cared. If Staples is going to accept Amazon returns, they need to staff appropriately or have employees step up when it's busy. This experience was a huge waste of time and left a very poor impression.

Do not go here for notary services! I went here on recommendation of the Valley Stream Library…read more She wanted to charge me $10 to have a document signed. In NYS it's illegal to charge more than $2 to notarize a document unless it's a remote notary (which is not what this was). I mentioned to her that I was also a notary & knew the laws & regulations, so instead of doing the right thing & accepting my $2 payment, she ripped up the document, so now I have to go back home and reprint the document in hopes of finding someone today to sign it. This nonsense that she replies with on her Google & Yelp reviews about this being a service or convenience fee -- you can't charge an additional fee on a notary service! "A notary public may charge a fee of $2.00 for administering an oath or affirmation or for taking an acknowledgment or proof of execution. UNLESS OTHERWISE AUTHORIZED BY LAW, A NOTARIAL FEE MAY NOT EXCEED THIS AMOUNT." Every lawyer I've spoken to has conquered that is 100% illegal to charge additional fees. I get it, running a business is expensive and it can take years to actually turn a profit. But that's just part of owning a business. I have reported this person to the NYS department of licensing services and the Secretary of State. I also spoke to the library director who said she had no idea and will tell her staff to stop recommending this business. Being a notary is a public service and we agree to abide by certain rules & regulations. To take advantage of that role for monetary purposes is morally wrong.
