I've been to Mint sushi at least half a dozen times usually in groups ranging from 3-15 people. The service has always been most attentive and able to take great care of such a large party for how small the venue is. As can be seen by the couple of photos I've posted the dishes are quite exuberant and come out in varying presentations that are at times just unbelievable pieces of art! This is certainly my #1 go to spot for the Kansas City area as far as sushi is concerned and courtesy of the local Sushi Meetup group I've been able to experience dozens of the ones throughout the KC metro area. I've yet to have a roll that wasn't highly enjoyable and I've been lucky enough to experience I'm guessing over 80% of their rolls. I hope that you have as wonderful of an experience as I've had during my times here as now that I'm no longer in the area this place is sorely missed! read more

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurant in the area. I highly recommend the Fire Island and the Lover rolls and the crab jalapeño appetizer. It's a tiny restaurant inside of a strip mall, so keep that in mind when considering dining here with a big group! Basically, go for the food & not the atmosphere. read more

I went here one day with my family just because it was on the way back home. This place has to have the most fake "fish" ever. I know we are in the middle of the country but come on, it's disgusting! Maybe it was an off day but I highly doubt it. Even their sushi roll pictures look gross, look at the "fish" in there. The plating of the sushi was odd with the martini glass in the middle. Maybe they were just trying to fill the space. The only reason I'm giving this two stars is because someone I was with really enjoyed their teriyaki chicken. I was skeptical about trying what they offered me and it was decent. The sauce was the only good thing about it. Onion soup was amazing. read more

One of my friends in Boston has been on a sushi kick. Every other day for the past few weeks, she's been going to one sushi place or another. I'm jealous. Really jealous. There are lots of good places there and everything here has been ok to really awful. Certainly nothing that would make me drive out of the way. And I *love* sushi. And then I found Mint. I was out in Lee's Summit with a friend and thought that my husband would be cooking dinner. On the way home, I call home and no miracles happened. He didn't cook dinner. So I pulled over, pulled out Yelp and tried to find something nearby that's good (I don't go to LS often so I wouldn't know). And this place called Mint had five stars. People were raving about the sushi. Normally I would have been really skeptical. Good sushi out in LS? But I was hungry. REALLY HUNGRY. So I went. It was in a strip mall but at this point, I've learned that out in the 'burbs, there are some really great places in strip malls. The inside reminded me of an Asian cafe. Like in Asia. Or Flushing. It had the bright green walls and pops of color typical in real Asian modern places. And the music. For me, it actually felt homey. And authentic. I ended up ordering the Crazy Salmon. It came out and was so beautifully displayed. I took a bite and it was really good! Ended up ordering an Alaskan and a spicy tuna. Spicy tuna is my test roll. It was all really good. One thing I really liked it that they put a spicy mayo design with fish eggs and tempura on the plate so I ended up dragging my rolls through that rather than the more traditional soy sauce/wasibi mix. Because it was so damn good. Service was ok. Not bad but not tremendous either. The staff was really nice, though but just didn't go out of their way. Still, they were nice and the food was terrific so I don't feel like I can dock stars there. The prices were fair for the area and there are lunch specials. There's also a Thai menu that I'd like to try. But I don't know if I'll get to that just because I love sushi and there's is so good! My only regret? That I didn't find this place sooner. No way. Lee's Summit has a quality sushi joint? Yep, I wouldn't have believed it but I'm here to tell you I'm definitely a fan of Mint Asian. What's to like in this roadside shopping center venue of sashimi, soy, rice and all things good? Service for starters. Nicest waitress ever. It was possible she was fishing for a big tip. She got one! That woman can follow me around to restaurants and be my personal waitress. She's that nice. Taste: my squid salad was downright spectacular. Interestingly put together, lots of bursts of unexpected flavor, a little kick and a good bit of protein. I wanted sashimi for dinner and the appetizer portion was just perfect. Check the photos of my dish and those from others. They put a high priority on making the plate look really attractive and you know what? It works for me. But it's not just looks. Those swirls on the plate were interesting. I noted a straight sriracha, a sriracha blend (with Thousand Island, a common sushi joint trick), something with a bit of fish sauce, something green I couldn't identify and some hoisin. The sushi was exactly to my liking and pair with a hot green tea that was refilled several times I left happy. If you go: credit cards accepted. Brace for the lime green and yellow interior that looks like it may have been designed by a kid with crayons. Cute overload. The green plastic chopsticks are amusing. Plenty of shopping center parking. Lock your car, tip your waitress, wipe your mouth after you eat, push your chair in as you leave. You're welcome. read more

The waitress was the most genuinely friendly waitress at a sushi restaurant I've ever met. After we finished our sushi she asked us if we wanted more. I like that. I've been going to Mint for about 8 years now. It first caught my eye because it was the only sushi restaurant in the area that actually had vegetarian rolls on the menu. And not just plain, no flavor, no meat rolls. Actually GOOD veggie sushi rolls! And that was where I found my L.O.V.E- The Sweet Potato Roll. Filled with crunchy tempura and sweet yummy-ness... I'm pescatarian now, but still place an order of sweet potato rolls every time I go in. Mint Sushi just finished their renovation and it looks great! We ordered $50 worth of take out that included 4 rolls. 2 had crab in them, rainbow roll and California roll, which were both spoiled. The crab was so gross that we both spit it out. When I called to let them know I was brushed off that "I was the only one to complain". I told them they should try it to make sure. I worked at a sushi restaurant for 2 years and know what it was supposed to taste like. I hate that I was dismissed so easily and I was the one wrong. I know you guys are not going to believe this, but you have to trust, me. I am just like you! I know that the struggle to find edible sushi in Missouri is SO REAL! I have never been able to find a roll I could stomach in this land locked state. Never... until now, that is. Mint was AMAZING! I'm telling you. It was fresh. It was clean. The staff was NICE! The colors inside were bright and welcoming. Let me break down for you what I had. House Salad: This was not your ordinary bright orange ginger dressing. I don't know how they made it, but it was lighter and delicious tasting. Onion Soup: If you just look at it, you'd think they gave you a bowl of water because of how clear it was. Just looking at it I was already impressed. The taste was far more, complex and delicious than water, though. Simple, savory and amazing. Super White Tuna Sushi: This was a good fresh piece of white tuna with all it's usual buttery goodness. *note: when she first brought it out she stopped before she handed it to me and said they forgot the Ponzu sauce. She brought it back and there was a very thin layer of it brushed on the fish. It enhanced the flavor, and I have to give her major props for not just giving it to me when she knew it wasn't perfect, yet. I would have never noticed if she had just given it to me that it was meant to have the sauce, but I'm glad she corrected the error, because it tasted great! Narita Express roll: I'll be uploading a picture, but this was by far the most delicious part of my meal. It may even be one of my favorite rolls ever. I love spicy rolls, but hate the mayonnaise mush of spicy tuna rolls. This did have a mayonnaise decoration painted on the plate, but it was light and not overwhelming to the rest of the roll. The jalapenos in it had real kick. It was amazing. I could have probably eaten 5 of these rolls alone. Daikon Maki: I'll be uploading a pic of this as well. It does not have rice which makes it a nice healthy roll full of fresh and delicious fish with probably a full serving of vegetables. This was, however, my least favorite, just because it had an extreme ginger taste like the pickled ginger they give you on the side. I'm not sure where it was coming from (maybe they put some in the roll) but I hate ginger so I wasn't a huge fan. If you like ginger and you want a fresh tasting roll, you'll probably love this, though. Seriously, I'm never eating sushi in MO anywhere else ever again. read more

Do you ever wonder if over-the-top gorgeous presentation is a smokescreen to cover for not-so-great food? Well that doesn't apply here, as the sushi chefs are clearly both visual and culinary artists. I've been a bad Yelper and put off writing reviews for months, so I don't remember the names of the rolls I ordered, but they were all delicious. The staff, if English-challenged, are sweet and gracious, and the bright green dining room will make you happy no matter what your mood when you walked in. Look, I love Mint Sushi. This would've been a five star if my warm food would have been warm. Sadly my crab Rangoon's were cold as if they'd been sitting out all day. Fried rice was cold. My California roll was delicious as usual. Volcano roll was tasty, but could use a bit more attention to appearance. Literally looked like someone vomited lobster on a California roll. Fresh food is what People care about, pay attention to each and every guest. It's more disappointing when I know what Mint sushi is capable of. We will try again read more

Best sushi in kc hands down! I went there for the first time last night and it was wonderful! Staff was friendly and the place had so much character. This is the one place is Ls with culture and an intimate setting! Even if you don't like sushi you should try it here! It's good. It's small. There is no sushi bar. It has a little Mexican restaurant kind of feel. I'm conflicted about the food. I'm a purist. I like the fish to be the star of the show. In most of my dishes the sauce was the primary star. The sauce was excellent, but still, I want fish. The fish was of a very high quality but at a sushi bar hiding the fish under sauces is a no no to me that could camouflage freshness, especially when there is no bar in which to view the whole pieces of fish. There are a lot of rolls to choose from if you're into that. I think of rolls as what neophytes eat because they don't know what to order or they're weary of raw fish. Presentation on the plate was excellent. Wait staff was very friendly and service was great. Price was very reasonable. I went to dinner with the plan to spend $100 on sushi for my wife and myself. I ordered a lot. I ate till I was past full. I only spent $47 dollars. Worth a try. I do prefer a sushi bar, however. read more

I went here based off the other reviews and I wasn't disappointed. Me and my date had 4 dishes and ill rate them all. Crab Rangoon: I am always cautious ordering this as it is so easy to mess up, fortunately it was delicious. Sushi pizza: Best part of the meal! Just order this and you won't be disappointed. It's comes in 8 bite size pieces. Enough for a meal for 1 or share up to 4 people. Mr. James Roll: After reading another review this was a let down. It has a crispy wrapper from being cooked and overall the inside was very bland without a lot of contrasting textures. 4th Roll: unfortunately I've forgotten the name but it was served with a great presentation and tastes delicious. Weird negative: The chopsticks were awful and very difficult to use. I eat sushi regularly and always have used chopsticks without issue. Overall a very good casual sushi place, the staff was amazing. It's a nice casual atmosphere. read more

Great little sushi place located in Lee's Summit. Went here for first time the other night and did not disappoint. They have fresh sushi and you can order hibachi off the menu but they do not cook it in front of you like some other places do. The presentation of the sushi is almost like artwork. I have tried all of the Sushi restaurants in Lee's Summit and Mint is by far my favorite! My daughter and I have "sushi Friday's" about every other week and don't mind driving a little farther to come to this one. Where to start? I alway get their spicy crab salad which is like crack cocaine to me! It is so fresh and tasty I could eat 5 servings...I just can't afford it. I also get the onion soup which is incredibly simple but has so much flavor I wish wish I could make it at home. Then i end my meal with one of many rolls. Just depends on my mood at the time. I was use to buying a pre-packaged roll from the grocery store. They where always pasty and old tasting...but I did not know it. Once I ate a roll at Mint I realized what fresh was like really like! I visited Mint Sushi again Dec. 23rd, 2017. This time there was nothing wrong with the sushi. The rolls were too heavy on mayo but the crab in them tasted good. I tried the sashimi lunch which was chef choice. It included the typical tuna, salmon, yellowtail and a California roll. My son had the 3 roll lunch special. Rolls are not my thing. The appetizer was onion soup. Waitresses were accommodating. The only negative with service is that one waitress smelled like a bar on free pack of cigarettes night. It really doesn't give a feeling of clean service when you want to wash you hands after smelling heavy cigarette smell. It's a non smoking restaurant and city so the wait staff should not smell of back door smoking. The food was good though. read more

come here all the time and it's one of my favorite restraints in LS. i'm a vegetarian and they have a nice selection of veggie rolls which is nice. i like the AAC roll and the fiesta roll the best. i'd recommend having two orders of rolls otherwise it won't fill you up! sometimes service is slow, but i don't mind. i pretty much order the same thing every time i go, so i don't know how much help this review will be, but i don't think you can go wrong here. read more

A shining star in the otherwise desolate culinary landscape outside of Kansas City, Mint offers a level of quality cuisine not typically seen before broaching the boundaries of the big city. Fresh fish, interesting presentation and generous serving sizes combine to create an experience that might not necessarily be memorable in another setting, but certainly puts it in a higher echelon of desirability than the establishments that surround it. In terms of price versus quality, the cost is probably on the high side, but I also understand that location plays a role in that, as well. The ambiance and decor are similarly unexceptional, but adequate, creating a solid experience overall that definitely warrants checking out at least once. read more
