I found myself in Mint Julep today after months of seeing it and wondering what they carried. I'm so thrilled! I finally decided to go inside because I heard they'd be carrying a line that I like, and I come to find out that they carry several! I bought two simply GORGEOUS scarves that were actually priced lower than what I initially expected. A lot of the reviews of this place just do not do it justice! Let's clear it up. Is this boutique "too expensive"? NO! It's only too expensive if you're not familiar with the brands that it carries. These pieces are not overpriced or marked high beyond other retailers. Additionally, I saw at least one brand that's very hard to find in the US. The simple fact that I would be able to try on pieces from that brand without having to buy them up front and pay for shipping from Europe is a huge positive. Is the store "too cramped"? Hardly. It's a small store, but they have a very clean, beautiful layout. I was in there with two staff, a delivery guy, and probably four other shoppers, and I still had plenty room to be off in my own little world. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the store. Are the employees "rude and unfriendly"? Not at all!! My goodness. Quite the opposite. One woman behind the desk greeted me immediately and asked if I needed anything, another smiled at me, and I made conversation later (twice) and was met with receptive faces and eager replies both times. One of the women was less talkative, but she was busy and I wasn't talking with her directly. She did smile and look up and even laugh, though. She was far from rude. Basically, this is a lovely store, and you've probably got to be pretty rude yourself to think that the employees are rude. Additionally, if you're out of touch with the brands or the prices of pieces like what's carried at Mint Julep, you might think it's overpriced, but it's really not. read more

2.5. I just don't get it. I've seen their Harvard store, I like it better, but not that much better. First of all, I can't walk into this store without getting really claustrophobic. So yeah, they cram it full of cute stuff so there's a lot of selection but I don't think I have even made it to the back of this incredibly tiny store yet because I feel like the clothing is going to cave in on me. Actually, I think that may be the reason I have such negative feelings about this store. Then there's pricing. Ha. Ridiculous. Really. Ridiculous. Even their accessories are way overpriced for what they are. Also, there's a cute bead shop down the way that I frequent - some of the jewelry here (all handmade, I suppose) was made with components they sell at the bead shop a few doors away. Yeah, and marked up like 80 bazillion percent. Tacky. Also, the clothes are adorable. But I have tits. Their stuff is cut to fit 12 year olds or rich Brookline women with bodies like 12 year olds. And yes, most of the girls who I see shopping there are the college-aged, not quite done with puberty, daddy pays for everything crowd. I've been shopping at this small local owned boutique for several years now. All items are curated from a variety of different designers, some well known and others more obscure. Everything is high quality, lasts for years and is super cute. Definitely worth a trip in, even just to browse their latest offerings. Yes, it's pricey. But it's also mostly designer or handmade wares in a store with a Coolidge Corner rent. I went in a few months ago, shopping for bridesmaids gifts and chatted with the girl at the register. She answered my questions and said I should come back closer to fall, when the new colors would be in. I went back today and at first, no one acknowledged or greeted me. However, once I walked up to the register, the girl smiled at me and came around to help me. We started talking and she (Kayla) immediately remembered me from months earlier - including what I was looking for! Kayla (not sure of the spelling) was so helpful and friendly. She gave me her thoughts and advice and I ended up purchasing the gifts - with the understanding that I could exchange them or return for store credit if they aren't totally right. She didn't pressure me at all though - which is why I bought them! The dresses are probably out of my price range, but they are so cute, I might have to go back to check out potential sales. read more

What is with this place? Yeah, the workers are nice, but that's not enough to make up for the crazy prices and just plain fugliness of the clothing. I have not once found something that I was willing to spend half of the price on. Now I know that Coolidge Corner specializes in kitschy stores that charge too much, but the other stores at least have stuff I would want and consider paying the price for. Oddly enough, this place was featured in Lucky - a magazine that specializes in finding good clothing bargains. UPDATE: I just also learned that their return policy is bad. If you return in 10 days you can only get store credit and then after that, nothing at all. What a way to crap on your customers. read more

An adorable boutique with quality cute and chic merchandise leaning more on the simple side with a bit of funky patterns tossed in for good measure. They really excel in the dress area, so add to your throw-on-and-go wardrobe here. I have the feeling that the gals here compliment everyone who walks through the door and somehow remain sincere; it's an admirable skill, don't ya think? You know me and the halvsies....1.5. I'll start with the positive. They have unique beautiful clothing. I'm a person who likes clothing that's 'classic, has clean lines, and not too extravagant'. Some things are with in my budget, some are not; but it's higher end if you look at the brand. It's very eclectic and it's selection is diverse, and still classy; there are days though, I'll think 'gulp' it's worth the splurge, but... Not at this store. ok, my 1.5 end of the review. I've been in there many times...I am never, ever...... RARELY one to use the 'I'm brown card', but I've walked in, and have NEVER received a welcome; a 'hi how are you today' as they have addressed other customers. While looking at their stuff, no one has approached me with a 'can I help you find a size?' or 'something I can help you with?'. Once, i needed to find a dress, I described my 'perfect' shoes, I was pointed to the 'rack over there' I've worked retail for many years at the higher end-ish range store AND customer service goes a long way. You treat everyone equally, a person in sweats: they've spent over $1000+ at the store; a person, dressed to the 9s, may try everything on, won't by a thing (and leave a mess in the fitting room and you're left putting it all away). SEVERAL times I've even watched associates ask if they can help the males in the store, sitting on the couch, doing nothing but twiddling their thumbs waiting for a GF. I've come in with my sweats on, I've come in with my high end designer bag, sunglasses, and shoes on (I'm not trying to say I'm spoiled/obnoxious but as a measure of a standard) In the end; I feel pretty rejected and disrespected as a customer when I enter and leave. A small, cute boutique with a great, well-edited collection...think BCBG, Nanette Lepore, Velvet, Ben Sherman, and the list goes on. The store is as well-organized as can be expected in such a small space and the staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are relatively high, but in this case I really do believe you get what you pay for. I've lived in Brookline for 3 years now but I studiously avoided this store because I am seriously weak-willed when it comes to beautiful clothes. As much as I would LOVE to have unlimited disposable income to spend on shopping sprees, it's sadly not the case and I always had the impression that Mint Julep's delicious frocks are out of my budget range. But I was lured in today by the bright window display and realized that the store manages to mix high and low items with a girly, feminine sensibility. It's so me! And super fun, colorful prints too! Did I mention the great accessories as well? It's a well-curated collection here. I actually had a shopping goal in mind today since I'm attending a couple weddings this summer. Lo and behold, I spied the most perfect canary yellow Milly dress that I immediately dubbed "the Michelle Obama dress" because it looks like something she would wear. Of course, it wasn't exactly in my budget range but I *had to* try it on! And yes, I fell promptly in love. I deliberated awhile over the price but decided it was a quality investment. Plus, sincere flattery really does get you pretty far in my book. The salesgirl who assisted me was really sweet and helpful despite all my questions. I also liked another dress but they sadly didn't have it in my size. She even called their Cambridge store to check and said I could try other retailers online. I really dislike this place but if I am walking by, I feel compelled to walk in and take a look. It's the soothing green sign - it's just so inviting. If only the sales associates were also inviting. In the many times that I have walked into this store, I've only been greeted by a sales person on a handful of occasions. In a store, this small, it makes it awkward not to be acknowledged. In terms of the clothes and accessories, this is a pricier boutique that carries brands that you can often find in other places. They don't have many sizes and it's a bit claustrophobic. Occasionally, things are discounted to a somewhat affordable prices (still not a great deal). Every so often there is something that catches my eye in this store but the poor customer service always kills my desire to make a purchase. This is cute. This is cute. This is cute. That's exactly what I said as I touched every piece of clothing at Mint Julep. The display of pretty dresses in the window was absolutely adorable and drew us in. Mint Julep's collection did not disappoint. They not only had the cutest dresses but jewelry, Orla Kiely bags and all of the "in" headbands from retro poly to feathers. It was sooo me! I would totally outfit myself at Mint Julet if I were rich and a size 4. $320. $188. $165. Those were the typical price tags attached to the clothes at Mint Julep. I turned away and kept walking. Mint Julep is definitely one for window shopping. I couldn't imagine spending that kind of cash on clothes. It's great for ideas and inspiration though. Mint Julep is the shop to go to when you want to wear something that is just different and overtly feminine and funky. It's one of those "Wow. Where did you get your dress? I am basing this review primarily on the customer service aspect of the store. I will say that the storefront display is nice, and the layout of the store is all right. They have a really small space, and they're working with it as best they can. I suppose it's better that they have a good selection of merchandise (if you're willing to drop a pretty penny on smaller-name boutique designer clothing); the vision for the store is homogeneous and the pieces are definitely "standout pieces." They aren't just basic tanks and T's. That said... it was one of the most off-putting customer service experiences I've had in awhile (and this is coming from someone who's been there). There was a tall blonde working in the store who must've had a friend come in... all they did was gossip. She whined about how she had a friend coming in, but that he was bringing an under-21 friend in, and how she didn't want to "babysit" her and blah blah blah. She was rude, abrupt, and short with me. The other girl was really nice and tried to help me out. On the other hand... I really wanted to tape the blonde chick's mouth shut just so I wouldn't have to listen to her nasty Valley-Girl-meets-So-Cal-wannabe-surfer drawl. In short: she was a rude, seemingly overprivileged snot. Had it not been for the other sales associate, I would've immediately turned around and walked out without trying anything on. UPDATE: So, I've now gone in three more times. I figured that after the first time, maybe I was a little harsh. Maybe they were just having an off day. Apparently they weren't, and my next three visits were more or less a repeat of the first. There is always one nice girl who is genuinely trying to do her job and assist people. And then there is always at least one vapid coed meandering or sitting around either a) talking to her friend who came into the store or b) gossiping to the other slacker-chic coworker. And they are always talking about partying, boys, or how terribly dreadful their lives are. They wave you by, and ask if you need anything with a tone of voice that says, "I really don't care, but I have to ask, and anyway I know that my non-slacker-chic coworker will handle you." So, I'm sorry Mint Julep of Brookline, but 2 stars it is. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this location to anyone. Ever. Needless to say, if I ever want to go back (which is doubtful), I will go out of my way to the Cambridge location. read more

My favorite boutique in that area. Almost like as if it was plucked off Newbury Street and transplanted in Coolidge Corner. They're very friendly at this location...and you'll find the cutest tops and dresses.....yes, very cute dresses for that special occassion. I come here when I have a wedding to go to. This is the kind of store that never ceases to perplex me. Even if I did make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year I still don't think I'd spend $75 on a tee shirt that I could get at the Gap for $9.99. Seriously? I can understand spending some cash on some of the cute designer dresses they have here with really hip retro patterns that you probably can't find elsewhere; but who buys the $75 tee-shirts? I don't know; this place is out of my league and just leaves me confused. Some of the accessories were cute, but also pretty overpriced. I will be back if I ever make six figues, maybe. read more

Things at this shop are bananas in pricing, but eeeevery so often I'll find myself totally drooling over an item I see in the shop window (I walk by daily). They had a blue dress there that was glorious, and I was in need of a solid blue dress to be a bridesmaid in a wedding. I figured I'd just poke in, but there's no way that the dress would be under $100. I was beyond excited to see that the dress was under $100. Which, I still think is a ghastly amount of money to pay for a dress, but I'd already gone to every TJMax Marshalls Macys etc in Boston, and was losing hope, and most items at Mint Julep are usually 2x as pricey. The dress was perfect, and I rationalized that since I would be getting a two-fer - a dress that functioned for the wedding and one that I could still wear to work/events - it was worthwhile. So I had a great success, but mostly I have disappointment, when I shop through Mint Julep, since they have beautiful clothes but I definitely don't make that kinda cash. They did have a top there recently that I investigated buying outside of the shop, but it was only available in France and was pretty much being sold at market rate at Mint Julep - sooooo it's not necessarily that they're the ones making the price hikes, just that they're buying rare clothes and that's the price you pay (literally) for rare clothes. Worth an occasional stop, but mostly a wistful glance. Unless you have boatloads of cash, in which case, go nuts. read more

I love the selection of lines (large and small), variety in type of clothing that they offer, great merchandising and wonderful service. I only went in to check out the sale rack because I was bored..... famous last words. But yeah, maybe the owners of the store thought it would be a good policy for their salespeople to greet everyone warmly, not just the ones who look rich. The girls were so sweet, they even complimented my handbag, but they didnt try to steer me towards anything. They just let me browse the sale rack and started a dressing room for me. I found some cute knee length pants that I knew I immediately had to have no matter what the price, but then I just grabbed some other stuff to try on for fun. They all fit beautifully. I know that some people will kill me for saying this, but its tough to find clothes that fit right when you are petite. I find a lot of stores that specialize in my size make stuff that is too tight or revealing and mainstream stores barely go below a size 4. So I usually just wear too-big boyish clothes (a lot of which is hand-me-downs from my little brothers, lol). Anyway the stuff I got at Mint Julep I thought immediately made me look taller, curvier, older (which is still a good thing at my age). That was more money than I've ever spent on clothes... but as an infamous Scottish cheapskate, I can tell you that only high quality, really attractive clothes would loosen my pursestrings. The merchandise is undoubtedly pricey, and when I have discriminating eyes, some of the items don't justify the price tags. However, I really do like supporting local show owners, so every now and then, their pretty dresses and jewelry really catch my eye and take my money. Yesterday, I just couldn't find anything worthwhile even on the two plus racks of sale items. I will say I did like when the manager said goodbye to me. I love coming into Mint Julep; every piece in the store is excellent so it saves you from going to larger store and having to sift through everything. Great selection of Shoshanna, Milly, Nanette Lepore, and more. They have a nice price range as well, which is great when you're looking for a more casual look and don't want to spend as much. Even the less expensive dresses are cut well and of good quality. I have always found the staff to be extremely friendly; they're always welcoming and really excellent at giving suggestions if you need something for a specific event. I've frequently come in and they've picked out something I wouldn't have noticed or thought would fit, and it turned out to to really flattering. They're also extremely helpful at helping you track down the right size, even offering to call their other location for you. Definitely the perfect place if you have a wedding, cocktail party, or other event and want to check out a ton of great outfits in one place, rather than spending a lot of time browsing online or in larger department stores. read more

Most of their stuff is incredibly cute. I have purchased two dresses and a bag from Mint Julep--all of them are of exceptional quality and I have received a lot of compliments on them. I stopped in again the other day and *swoon*. I love their dresses and jewelry and bags. A lot fun, modern, clothing with vintagey twists. Not a lot of the stuff that makes you go--"WHAT???" I think everything is, for the most part, classic yet funky and original, if that makes sense. I love it. I just don't have enough cash money to buy the stufff. Wish I did. The girls who work there are lovely and amazing. I have talked with at least four of them and they are always extremely helpful, upbeat, and sweet. Things to like about this store: 1) They carry some nice dresses between the price point of $200 to $300. Brands include Kensie, Trina Turk, Shoshanna, Tibi, Nanette Lepore, and Milly. Unlike what other people say, they're not any more expensive than other stores that carry the same brands. There are some cute dresses but in general, it's not really my taste. I've bought dresses from those designers before but for some reason, I don't care for the store's choices. 2) They have a nice jeans collection as well. Things not to like about this store: 1) Sales are rare and even when they do happen, they're not great. 2) One of the reasons to come to a boutique store is to buy things you can't find in a regular department store and this is where they fail. Most of the brands are pretty mainstream. 3) Sizes are limited so unless you fall within the range of 0-8, don't bother coming. They also only carry one of each. 4) I don't think the accessory collection is particularly interesting. 5) Their return policy sucks (or should I say simply nonexistent). read more

Yes they are not cheap, but they have very cute original dresses here that you might not find at other locations in the city. I've been in here a million zillion times to window-shop, as this place is, unfortunately, a bit outside my budget. However, I have to give credit where credit's due: were I a tad richer, I could easily see myself lining my closets in their cute dresses, handbags, and accessories. But! This story has a happy ending. During the Coolidge Corner sidewalk sale, I snagged not one - but TWO dresses for $50 (adorable teal eyelet drop-waist dress and a fancy white brocade kensie with a black crystal bib embellishment and short chiffon sleeves - and pockets, loooove that). No, not $50 each, both for a total of $50! That's cheaper than H&M, kids, and much better quality to boot. As long as you exist I will sing your praises. And as long as you continue to participate in sidewalk sales, I'll be your customer. read more

Beware: It ain't cheap. I'm a firm believer in that you "get what you pay for," and Mint Julep is no different in this equation. On one of my last trips, I spent $190 on basically a cotton jersey shirt. Yes, folks, that's right: $200 on cotton. But guess what? It's probably the most versatile piece of clothing I own. It's jersey, so I can throw it in a suitcase and it won't wrinkle when I travel ( plus #1). I can dress it up or dress it down (another plus when I travel). So to hell with the price. I love it. The boutique carries wonderful labels (Milly, Trina Turk, etc) and the choices are great. Go early and often because once your size it's gone, it's GONE, as this is a boutique with a limited order. The girls are hit or miss. Last time I was there, one of the girls was remarking to me on the radio was "reallly old" Michael Jackson. "I love oldies," she says. Um, honey... REALLY old Michael Jackson is not "Bad" (which is what was playing). So I took my $200 cotton jersey home, and threw "Rock With You" on the ITunes, being glad that one of the 12 year olds that works there didn't think I was "old" enough to grow up with "Bad." Update -- I just purchased the most fantastic dress there. I told the girls I had a very important wedding to go to (read: half of my high school will be there and I haven't been home in almost a decade, so looking good is essential). The girl who helped me rummaged through some dresses that had JUST arrived and found THE most fantastic dress EVER. I love them. I do agree that their return policy BLOWS. Seriously. WTF? And finally, on the prices: This isn't Target or the GAP. The quality of clothes here is comparable to Neiman's or Saks. So quit whining about the prices. If you want cheap, go to Sears. read more

This is a diamond in the ruff....Coolidge Corner is not exactly known for its shopping, but rather its quaint little jewels-Mint Julep is exactly that! The girls that work there are incredibly helpful and the selection of clothes is diverse and well chosen, the perfect party dress-check...the perfect jeans-check...the perfect one-of a kind-bag...check. I have to give these girls a five star upgrade. Not only do I come in at least every other week to check out their new items, but they continue to keep up with some of the best designers and new brands! If you're looking for some cheap clothes that will fall apart...go elsewhere. But this gem of a store deserves five stars. Example, today I wanted something to add pizazz to a dress I already own. They have wallets, bags, tights, hats, necklaces, bracelets...all I could ever dream of adding to my already wonderful ensemble. I chose some really cute purple Spanx tights and I couldn't be any happier. I like the convenience of always knowing that if I need a cute outfit for an event or an additive accessory, I can count on them. I went in here for the first time after looking in the windows for about a year and never entering before. I have found renewed interest in boutiques. The window set up usually has at least one thing that I find interesting or nice. My little sister got a pair of earing for our little cousin for xmas and I got some spanx for the wedding I'm going to be in in a few days. I wanted to look around a little while, but my feet were covered in snow and I had a cup of coffee and didn't want to stain anything and then have to buy it. Mint Julep reminds me of one of my favorite little boutiques in the West Village in New York, so for nostalgia purposes, I sometimes wander in with no intention to buy anything. And then I see a pair of earrings I have to have, or a purse that calls my name...and I'm powerless, caught in cute-accessory thrall. Yes, nothing in the store is cheap, but if I give myself the rule of not buying anything that costs over $100, I usually don't do too much damage. Some of the jewelry, in my opinion, is affordable. And the sale rack rules -- I got a sexy black skirt with sequin detail marked down to $30 and a Free People dress for 50% off the other day. I like wearing unique stuff that makes people ask where I got it, and for that, sometimes I'm willing to pay more. read more

The best dresses. These dresses also come with a pretty price tag. Mint Julep carries great brands - Nanette Lepore, Milly, Tibi means the clothes are well made and unique but expensive. A lot of the dresses will run in the $200s, easily. However, there are some more moderately priced items throughout the store. The store often has BB Dakota stuff which is more affordable. They also have some really cute crossbody bags and purses that are inexpensive (~60). They typically have one or two racks of sale stuff so you can always search through those too, but I find they usually don't have my size (XS/S). In terms of the staff, I can't comment because I haven't had too many notable interactions. However, they did donate a gift card for a silent auction as a part of a charity event I planned, which was great. Thank you Mint Julep! My friend's jewelry is sold here (Sara Danielle Designs) and I love that they sell local jewelers stuff. We're so lucky to have Mint Julep in Coolidge Corner. It's a great place to pick up glamorous, unique gifts for friends without having to traipse to a mall. They don't carry my size clothing (14) so I bypass their great selection of dresses, but that's okay. They have an ever-changing selection of nifty scarves, bags, jewelry, and other accessories. Some items are super-expensive, and some are just the right price-point for thoughtful birthday or hostess gifts. The styling of the store is lovely and always fresh. They also carry a line of sophisticated and fun rhinestone/glitter greeting cards that I have gotten lots of mileage out of. read more

For those of us who live in Brookline, it can be quite difficult to run out and grab an outfit in a pinch... without running into Boston of course... but this store has many dress options (albeit pricey) as well as tons of accessories. The ladies who work there are always more than willing to assist you in finding the perfect outfit. The small space seems bigger than it is because of the high ceilings and bright lights. I've been meaning to review Mint Julep for quite some time now. It's definitely my favorite boutique in Boston -- gorgeous dresses (the likes of nanette lepore, shoshanna etc.)...great selection of other unique pieces -- especially if you need a last minute outfit. The staff is VERY helpful and not stuck up -- and in my experience, they give you their honest opinion for the most part. I like the Coolidge Corner store SO much more than the Harvard Sq store -- I never find anything I like in the Harvard Sq location! Highly, HIGHLY recommend it :) read more

Expensivvvvvvvvveeeeee, but the clothes are cute. The store is tiny, and be prepared to spend $100 for a belt if you go in. The staff is nice, and the clothes are really gorgeous. They have good sales, and the clothes are more affordable then. read more

I adore funky creative clothing, and girlie boutiques. Every time i walk by Mint Julep I see something creative in the window. The problem is that when i go inside, the selection turns out to be very disappointing. i'm willing to pay more money for an outfit that doesn't make me look like "everybody else" but most of their clothes are just weird and ugly. clearly i have an unpopular view compared to everyone else, and it could just be that they are targeting someone just to the left of me, but i always leave MJ feeling...perplexed. read more

A local business, so I hate to give it a poor review... If you know your fabrics and quality, then you soon figure out that many of the items are priced without any regard to material or quality. There was a Plain cotton scarf of a quality no more than $20-30.... and the price tag- $198? Right next to it, a more fairly priced polyester one for $28. I know my fabrics pretty well and this weird scale of pricing is a rip off. The absolutely plain cotton one- even with a Brand on it, should have been NO MORE THAN $50. I've been to the store in Washington square, Brookline (Brocades) that does glorious silk scarves and pure pashmina ones- unique ones too for Much less and with warm n friendly service! I'll get my scarves there next time! read more
