Recommended by a local - this is a great diner. The waitress was OK. Not the best, but the food was really good. My husband and I both wanted the pot roast melt, so I opted for the turkey sandwich which was good, but his melt was wwwaaaayyyyy good. I wish I had ordered it anyway. My son really liked his super burger, my daughter had the chicken plate which was fine, nothing special. We did enjoy the pizza fries appetizer. It's a thin pizza crust with a thin layer of seasoned mozzarella sliced in long strips with marinara to dip in. We all really liked it. This place has been in Wausau for as long as I can remember! I have gone there with my grandparents and now my kids ( which are grown). Same good food and friendly atmosphere! You can go early morning or stop in for a great dinner. read more

Wonderful original cafe right in downtown, across from the 400 block. Fast service, hot food and friendly staff. The decor has upgraded over the years and they still have all their news clippings on the wall from the decades serving our community with great home cooking at a fair price. read more

The service was fine, and it came out decently quick, but my food was not so good. I got the corned beef hash, and perhaps that was my mistake. Most places these days have nice big cubed of corned beef and some rustic potatoes or nice hash browns. Not here. If you like canned hash you'll enjoy this, because that's what it was. Just nondecript meat paste in between tiny diced potatoes. The crust was nice, but sadly it didn't taste very good. I'd go back and try something else, but stay far away from the hash. read more

Good food at a good price overall. Daily specials don't repeat on a regular basis, so it keeps breakfast and lunch fresh. It's better than Denny's for the food, cost, & atmosphere combination. Several co-workers of mine go daily for the lunch specials because they love the variety. Diner motif has a local flair on some of the booths and the walls. read more

The perfect combination of an authentic diner and decent food. On a rainy Saturday the line for breakfast was out the door. Bottomless cup of good coffee, pleasant prompt service even though the wait staff was extremely busy and even though people were waiting for tables, we never felt rushed. This Restaurant is the best place for breakfast in town! The service is absolutely amazing, quick, and the wait staff is always super friendly. The food is Good, nothing super outstanding in my opinion but it's not meant to be that place. It brings together the perfect balance of County hospitality with the history of the city written on its walls through the pictures by Here and Now photography. Very convenient location! Overall it is a great place! Restaurants like this can only become this way with time and the history to back up the whole business. I am purely basing this review on their "homemade" yeast rolls. They were very tasty, served warm with a side of butter. I brought two home for my husband, he loved them as well. I just ordered a chef salad with a side of ranch. I didn't care for the ranch dressing, it lacked that buttermilk herb tang and the consistency was a bit strange. The salad was large, nothing special but those yeast rolls. Maybe I will try it for breakfast some time. read more

Excellent egg scrambles, hot cider (Apple juice but still good) and hot chocolate to go with the huge pieces of French toast. Only 4 of 5 stares because my daughters French toast came soaked in strawberry juice when she asked for strawberry topping, and the coffee was VERY weak. I would go back for the food but not for the coffee. read more

Great breakfast spot! Had a very delicious breakfast sandwich on a croissant this past weekend. Service was nice, perhaps a bit inexperienced - but pleasant. The cafe was somewhat busy and food came out within in an acceptable amount of time. The menu is really nice, not overwhelmingly large, and I had hard time deciding what to have - we'll definitely be back to try out more. read more

my mother works there and the food is great definitely recommend the pesto burger my personal favorite. The Mint Cafe is an inspiration for me because I want to go into the culinary field and become a chef, great service and amazing food this is my number 1 recommendation if you are visiting Wausau Wisconsin, oh yeah and there ranch is amazing it is homemade and delicious. enjoy the great Wisconsinite food. read more

I really wanted to give this place a higher rating because the food is great and the prices are spot on, but what is up with the hours? They close really early on Saturdays (3pm) and they are completely closed on Sundays. Those are prime eating times and they are not open............ read more

Good food great service. Greek salad was a little salty but good and larger-sized. The Wisconsin style chili ( sweet with macaroni pasta) was s blast to my childhood. DAD was from the local area . I wouldn't pass this place up. read more

I loved the portabella sandwich, but I really came here to relive a childhood memory of lunching at the Mint with my mom in the 1960's. The decor is little changed from then and I learned from the old photos on the wall, that they had sponsored a baseball team as early as 1905. Their menu is fairly adventurous for such a small place. read more

I've gone to the Mint cafe for lunch/supper for several of years and love the atmosphere. I LOVE this place. They have been their for a lot of years. I like the pesto chicken but its not fresh meat and then the chicken is smaller than the bun and has a lot of fat in it. My interest for that one is gone. Love the mashed potato and cole slaw though. The food is great, good customer service every time I go there but they better watch the frozen food they serve because sooner or later people like me will not come back if the food doesn't stay homemade. I go to certain restaurants because I like the fact that they make fresh, not ALL frozen/processed meals. The food otherwise is ALWAYS hot and the wait is very short which I also love. If you haven't tried it, do try it you might like. read more

This is a terrific place! Coffee is great and the hash browns are perfect. We've eaten here twice on our trip and may go back a third time before we go home. The service is what makes it a five star. On our first day we got a late start to skiing and arrived just as their special (biscuits and sausage gravy) was being taken off the special board because they'd run out. Our server told us that they could make a small order if we still wanted to try it. The "small" order was huge and made my husband's day! read more
